I strongly support their mission and values but as a customer am unfortunately pretty dissatisfied…read morewith the service. I really wish they would tighten up their business operations and be more organized. I've had the service at two different addresses. At the first one I constantly had problems with my bucket not being picked up because I lived on a back unit and somehow my pedaller would forget or not look out very closely for my bucket or an alternate pedaller was not aware that I was on the back of the lot. It grew frustrating enough that I was even mildly relieved to find out my new apt was outside their coverage area. Fast forward a few years and I've resumed service and my experience has become equally frustrating. One week our whole bucket was taken for no reason. For a weekly service that involves keeping a bunch of food scraps, gaps in service are pretty inconvenient. When I contacted them about the missing bucket they promised to bring a new one the next week and then informed me that my pickup date had actually been moved to a different date about 3 weeks ago (though how my bucket managed to get picked up the previous week on the old day I have no idea). I didn't receive any notification about this date change whatsoever. Finally for the July 4th holiday I didn't receive any notification about whether the holiday affected pick up service and clearly it did because my bucket was not picked up and I have no idea if there was an alternate day. When everything goes smoothly the service is super convenient and wonderful but when the service becomes consistently trouble filled it's becoming more of a headache than it's worth it. I'm sad to have to leave such a negative review because I was ecstatic when I first found out about Compost Pedallers. There is definitely a niche that they fill, but the service had been so dissatisfying. Others small things too like how the list of what's compostable on the website is so inconvenient to read and it's not easy to quickly search for specific items. It's all just a home grown service I get it but I really wish they would polish up and run this business better.

But I have found these guys to be inconsistent and ultimately undependable in regards to pick up. I understand that these are just local folks on bikes, and that they're subject to weather and other unpredictable factors, but essentially, if you are charging people for services, then you're running a business. And if you're running a business, you need to make sure you provide the services your customers are expecting. I've had missed pickups due to bicycle mechanical issues as well as weather (rain). In these cases, I feel CP should make efforts to reschedule an alternate pickup on a different day that week. (I don't live in a home with a yard, and so holding on to a bucket of compost for another week (one time 3!) is not as feasible for me as it might be for others.) They did refund me a week's worth of fees once, however, I'd be much more excited about this company if they could improve their pick up reliability.

Austin Bin Wash may be the best money I spend on household maintenance. It sounds ridiculous to…read morehave your trashcans washed professionally until two things happen. You raise the lid on a hot austin summer day and you gag from the rotting everything in your bin. Even after it's emptied. And when you go to put something in the bin right after it's been washed. It smells so good you WANT to stick you head in it. You don't need to do this every week either. Once a month keeps my bins gag free. In addition the service is great. They come and get my bins out of the fenced enclosure. Scrub and deodorize them and then put them back where they go. No HOA nasty-grams about my bins being left out. I love Austin Bin Wash. 100% recommend.

The cleanings are thorough, the bins smell good (yes, GOOD!!!), and in this Texas heat, y'all know that your bins can smell terrible if they are dirty. I had estimates from $200 to over 1K $$$ when I sent out a list of items I anticipated needed to be removed. One of the many things I liked about Pick Up Haulers is that they do their best to sort everything that they pick up and try to recycle it at the appropriate places instead of just taking it all to the landfill. They ended up spending more than a couple of hours lifting and carrying stuff out to their flatbed trailer /they also disassembled a trundle bed and were able to take it in the mattress to the truck . They determine their price based on the amount of space (? Cubic feet )We ended up using about 3/4 of their space on their large flatbed trailer and the fee was just a little over $300. I felt that was very fair for the services provided. Texas in May isn't usually quite as hot & humid as the Friday we moved. I enjoyed Chris and the young man that was his employee. They were very respectful and understood our situation. I would definitely use them again and plan to whenever we decide to move!! One thing I will say is that after this experience I definitely feel that less. (much less.!!) is more! LOL
