Saturday late afternoon I'm working in Ojai I notice my tire pressure light come up on the display. I pull over at a gas station and see a nail that's not supposed to be there on the rear right of my vehicle. I quickly google tire repair places near my and 2 places pop up. Fred's and another local service center. Fred's was farther than the other place so I take it to the nearest one since they both will be closing in about an hour. I rush to the first business only to find the place deserted, not a soul around. I call the number they have listed and it goes to voicemail. I go back to the gas station and add more air in my soon to be flat tire and head to Fred's. They quickly take me in and inform me it won't take too long. About 25-30 mins I'm there relaxing and watching a game when all of a sudden I hear my name being called at the reception. Total damage: $25 Fred's Tire Man saved my day. read more

DO NOT TRUST THEM: They lied to me about something being broken that WAS NOT. After an oil change they told me I had only 10% front brakes left and tried to sell them to me. I couldn't afford them and a month later had a shop look at them. They told me they were at 70%! He even showed me himself. I called the owner and he was aggressive, telling me "take me to court." Who says that? He said the inner brakes could have been 10% but the outer 70%. I checked with the shop again and he said no, they had looked at both inner and outer brakes. They were at 70%. This place will rip you off by telling you stuff is broken that isn't. Taking advantage of unsuspecting customers is a cardinal sin. And the owner is a total jerk. Avoid at all costs. read more

While just leaving Ojai, I got a fast leak in my drivers side tire. I was panicked, how was I going to find a garage to help me with my tire in this little town on a Saturday afternoon? Thank goodness for Yelp, I found Fred's Tire Man listed and slowly drove my car to their garage. It looked exactly like what a small town tire shop should be. Worn office, mismatched chairs to sit outside... my Aunt said the bathroom was not great. (The leather couch in the waiting room is super comfy) So here we are at the tire shop, at their mercy. They took my car into the garage and checked the tire. When they told me my tire was too far gone and I needed a replacement I braced myself. One Hundred Fifty for a new tire, or $30 for a used tire... wait, what?! Thirty bucks?! Sold. Twenty minutes later my used tire was on the car and I was on my way to enjoy the rest of the afternoon. I was prepared for the worst experience at this small country mechanic. But Fred's Tire Man was fast, friendly and affordable. Easy Five Stars!!! A few years back, my friend's/pastor's son came into town for man Easter Sunday service. He got a flat tire & had to get back right after the service. They do well on tires... but don't they ask them to replace sensors on tires. They put on a new sensor and I could never reset it.. had to take to a guy in Ventura who is familiar with this and knew exactly how to reset it. I got a bad flat tire on my way home late Friday afternoon so of course no one was open. I didn't know where to get a new tire and the tow truck drive recommended Fred's so I said sure, drop my car off there (after he dropped me off at my house). Fred's was open on Saturday and they called me promptly in the morning. It was a lazy morning for me and by the time I picked up my phone messages Fred had made an executive decision to put a used tire on my car(I knew my flat tire couldn't simply be fixed). When I called him back he said they could put a new one on instead if I wanted, but I was happy with the used one since the other tires already had some wear to them too. My husband and I drove down to Fred's and I walked out with my new tire on for only $30! I was able to get the tire off at the house switch it over to the spare and then I took it down to Fred the Tire man in Oak View. They got the tire repaired very quickly unfortunately I missed my appointment this morning but we scheduled in the afternoon. The best part about them fixing my tire is they offered to put it back on. Holy cow how much time that saves me. Plus I wasn't going to do it until tomorrow because it's getting so damn hot. I just recently moved to Ojai and I needed an oil change and one of my tires checked as every month the tire loses air. I normally take my car to the Toyota dealership but they were going to charge a lot of money for an oil change and tire rotation . Each month Toyota just adds air in my tire instead of checking to see why it is losing air it. At Fred's Tire Man they took it off and found a nail and fixed the tire for a nominal charge. Been coming here for 5 years now guys never been the nicest but that never really bothered me since I've worked customer service before I got how he was feeling. Today tho I took 4 freshly powder coated rims in to get tires mounted the rims were 17s so nothing crazy. All 4 rims are now scratched. When I asked about it he said to me "they got scratched while they were here but it wasn't my guys or my machine that did them." He also said "scratches happen my guys have to touch the rims you can't expect them to not touch them and mount the tires, but they didn't scratch them" so I said okay they were scratched while they were here but no one did it and also your guys have to touch them rims but they didn't touch them since they didn't scratch them" he said yeah. I just spent $500 to powder coat these rims. I was expecting him to pay for it but I was expecting at least a sorry but nope he couldn't even say that he said he doesn't take any responsibility for what his guys or his machines do. So if you guys want to go some where that isn't responsible and doesn't care about what their employees are doing or how their machines are running head down to Fred's tire man. Sucks they lost a long time customer when all he had to say was sorry. read more

I took my boat trailer in for new brakes, and when I got it back today, the front jacks were terribly bent. Dangerously bent. They were NOT bent when I took the trailer to them. What I think happened is that the brake guy they hired backed the boat up a few inches (with the jacks deployed) in order to test the surge brakes and the new cylinders he installed. You should never move a boat trailer with the jacks down. When I called the manager to complain he said it wasn't their fault. They didn't even offer to fix the jacks! It seems they will not take responsibility for damages their employees do. I guess with them "the customer is always wrong." read more

I called at 11:30 in the morning on a Tuesday and asked how long the wait would be for a tire rotation, i was told approximately one and one half hours so i immediately got in my car and had my husband follow me to drop the car ( WHICH IS 5 MIN AWAY FROM MY HOUSE) they told me they would call me when it was ready. Here i am now 2 and 1/2 hours later my husband is about to leave for work so i call to see if my car is ready for pickup, only to find out it hasn't been touched yet and the guy tells me the man who took it in wrote on the paperwork i said i would pick my car up at end of day which was absolutely not true !! He told me he could rush my car but it would be another hour i told them not to touch my car i was on my way to pick it up, absolutely horrible they could have at least given me a curiosity call to let me know they were running behind instead of putting words in my mouth!! I would have been stranded with no car and i am a mother of 3 my husband works till midnight what if i had an emergency absolutely can not believe they get away with this kind of customer service!! Worst experience ever!!!!! And they knew i needed this done so i could be on the road for my job tomorrow i drive for a living i am on the road 5 days a week 6 plus hours a day and i live in this community so sad to be treated like this from one of my own community members i love Ojai but sometimes the people aren't so nice. read more

Would never go to Fred's tire Man if my life depended on it they are a bunch of crooks the manager told me it would be $200 to do brakes on all four tires when I got my car back they only did the brakes in the back and charge me $300 so I had to go back another day and have the front brakes put in which they were supposed to do in the first place they charge me another $200 and that was the first estimate to have everything done and the manager just thought that was funny so they can kiss my ass I wouldn't give them one star I'll give them is the finger fred's tire Man read more

I call them to set up service and they quote me a price and say first come first serve, when I go in there they tell em I need an appointment. When I do get my tires put on there they overcharged their original price. Then they won't do an alignment because they need to replace parts at an outlandish price which I purchased myself and replaced. So if you're looking to overpay and get ripped off go to these guys.
