BEWARE - ladies especially, severely inexperienced & misogynistic staff!! Gave me a hard time over my ID, refused to scan it claiming "all IDs scan" and they couldn't locate their manager....claimed my ID was fake, despite me probably being older than everyone working there at that point in time. I've worked in bars too so one kid tried to mansplain it to me and ended up really embarrassing himself. They don't actually know what they're looking for. They still let my boyfriend walk out with alcohol with them under the impression I was under 21/ carrying a fake. Loser squad who seem to be afraid of women!! read more

Between their Stone Harbor location and this location, I prefer this one (the Avalon location). Now, I do like the Stone Harbor store too, but this store has a better wine selection. Maybe the wine selection is the same and I just prefer the lay out of this store more. Whenever I needed a good wine at a slightly marked up price, I know I can count on Fred's to come through for me. It is especially handy when it comes to those BYOB restaurants in the area. The biggest wall of rose wine I have ever seen in my life! It really can be Rose all day when you are in Avalon. I was also pleased to see many craft beer selections including my favorite 21st ammendment Hell or High Watermelon. At the time we went they had a young lady sampling spiked seltzer which was a nice touch and they also sell pretty much everything that you need to get the party started - solo cups, ping pong balls etc. The staff was very friendly and it is conveniently located with parking out front in the center of town. read more

Man at counter creased my real ID for no reason as I am 21 years old. I have a legal right as an American to buy alcohol at the age of 21 and the older man at the counter has now forced me to spend money and my time on attaining a new ID. Will never go back to that place again, that man is very ignorant and the store should pay for my new ID and reconsider his position at their store. I recommend others follow in my footsteps. Besides the ignorance in the store I have found the beer to be over priced for the majority of their options. read more

We stayed in Avalon for a beach vacation and made a few stops at Fred's. The store is rather small but they have a good collection of craft beer, liquor, and wines. The folks at the cash register are very efficient and know how to get the post-beach crowd in and out of the store quickly. I really don't know if there are many other options in Avalon for liquor and premium beers, so Fred's is a good option even if the prices are slightly higher than a big box store. read more

Convenient if you are staying in Avalon although it is a lot of items in a small space, it gets crowded, and generally isn't easy to shop. The parking in back is easier than trying to find a space out front most days in the summer. Of course, if you want more selection or lower prices, you should have brought booze with you from home. You can also benefit from trying Boulevard Super Liquors in Marmora near Ocean city, my favorite for better selection and deals at the shore. Otherwise this is it for Avalon. read more

I love this place, not only because their staff is friendly, knowledgable, and helpful, but because they carry The Oyster wine! This wine restores 100 oysters to NJ waters for every bottle sold. Living by the shore my whole life, it is so great to see local stores supporting companies and initiatives to help keep our oceans clean and healthy!!! A bit funky and a wee overpriced, but booze is booze when you're trying to survive a weekend down the shore with your parents. Good inventory. They will most likely have what you are looking for, or an adequate substitute. read more

Amazing wine selection, great customer service. They even ordered a special bottle for me, very accommodating and they deliver!!! Coming to the shore I was worried about pricing, I was very surprised that all pricing is lower than I expected. If you come from NYC this is a bargain compared to NYC prices. They have everything you need, if you're there during a busy weekend go early or during lunch when everyone is on the beach. read more
