I've had a very painful inflammation in my mouth and gums for 7 months. I've seen two doctors and my dentist who referred me to this doctor. I had to wait a month to get in. within a few days of scheduling the appointment, I completed all paperwork online. A week before the appointment, they called and said they still needed my insurance Info. I advised them I submitted all the info online. They checked and said yes it was there. I drove from out of town to get there. When I arrived, they notified me they didn't accept my insurance, even though I have Medicare, Tricare, and Delta dental and that I would be self pay. I almost stayed to see the doctor as I'm desperate to get treated. But then I thought, I could easily pay for this with my credit card, but if anything serious came up, they weren't going to accept my insurance going forward. I'm angry that I had to wait a month, drive an hour and only then be told cash only. Why didn't they tell me this before I got there? read more

I found Dr. Voorhees here on Yelp and I am glad that I chose him for my wisdom teeth removal. I had all four taken out this morning at his office and I am feeling fine 12 hours later. In fact, I'd say that suffering with a tooth that was prone to getting food stuck in it was worth than having it removed. Dr. Voorhees has a terrific sense of humor and extremely skilled. He administered my IV and in minutes I was out and the next thing I knew I was being escorted to the recovery area. All I remember of the procedure is feeling a mild bit of discomfort and groaning a little after which there was a pause and I don't remember anything else. Yes, yes, and YES! Dr. Vorhees and I have a long history but before I launch into that, know that I am yet another person who fears dental surgery more than death itself. I have had surgery for simple tooth extraction and other issues and experienced such pain and long recovery that I delayed meeting this guy forever. The work, however, had to be done. And I'd been to too many less-than-satisfactory surgeons. I was 26 at the time. I'd delayed my wisdom tooth removal for at least eight years and an impacted eye tooth for more than 10 years because of my previous experiences. I met with surgeon after surgeon and finally some kind nurse recommended Dr. Vorhees. That was over 20 years ago. I had 8 (yes 8!) wisdom teeth, some impacted, many near my sinus cavity, plus that pesky eye tooth lost in the roof of my mouth, again near the sinus. Dr. Vorhees is nothing if not humorous, honest, and down-to-earth. He's got a great seat-side manner and he's well aware of pain management, appropriate treatment, and basically what you'd expect of a true professional. I opted for general anesthesia. He told me all the risks, including that I might die! You've got to love a guy who puts all the risks out there, not matter how small. Anyway, I didn't die, so far anyway. He took all those teeth out and I was back on the streets and tagging underpasses in about 3 days - 20+ years ago! Fast forward to 2012? Maybe 2010. I'm nearly 50 now so the memory fades. I had a rotten tooth. The kind that sends so much pain that God feels it and sends it back to you to hurt not just the tooth, but the middle finger as well. Dr. Vorhees could probably have ripped it out in the waiting room without so much as a whimper but girly-man me went for the general again. No pain. Up and running 4 hours later. Then he had to put the "post" in for an implant 6 months later. Again the general. Up and running in about an hour. If you need an oral surgeon - and I hope you don't - THIS guy. Only. The best of the best. As for the office staff, eh. They seem like they were born just before I got there. You don't need them much and you don't need them long term. You need the doc. This Dr is the kindess and warmest dentist I've ever had the privilege to meet and receive care from. I was referred to him by my employer and caregiver, herself. For starters, he accepted me as a new patient during these difficult times when many offices are closed diwn, and are at most, only accepting existing patients for emergencies. He took me in at a time of dental emergency. He and his wonderful staff have a calming presence, non-judgmental and genuinely compassionate. He is respectful towards his staff, as he is to patients. He uses progressive techniques to take care of difficult and even advanced issues, and actually cares about his fellow person/patient. If you are an anxious patient, you couldn't find a more gentle and compassionate dentist to care for you. My dentist referred me to Dr. Voorhees after I complained about constant pain I was having in my teeth. I arrived to his office in quite a panic, as it is a little scary to be walked over to an oral surgeon's office in the midst of a routine cleaning! Dr. Voorhees' bedside manner is amazing. I cannot stress enough how gentle he was when trying to discern what was wrong and how he really took the time to help calm me down and assure me that everything was going to be fine. After his staff took x-rays, he scheduled a biopsy for the next day, which was wonderful, as I didn't have to wait weeks to come back. I received the results the following week and was told I'd need a series of treatments to hopefully reduce a benign tumor on my jaw. What was most impressive to me was when I learned that Dr. Voorhees had taken the time to discuss my situation with other doctors in his practice and around the state--in addition to reading up on the current medical literature about treatments for this type of rare tumor. I appreciated the fact that he didn't rush into suggesting surgery without exploring another, less invasive option first. I also want to mention his staff. Every person I've encountered on the seven occasions I've gone to the office in the past two months has been extremely professional and positive. They all have smiles on their faces and work hard to ensure patients are comfortable. In particular, Rafael has attended to most of my procedures, and he has gone above and beyond to help calm my anxiety each time. Having just moved to the area from Los Angeles, I was nervous about seeing a new doctor to remove my wisdom teeth. My experience with Dr. Voorhees was amazing and his staff was incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. I'm a huge chicken when it comes to needles, surgery or any medical procedures and this was easier than getting a filling. I had all four wisdom teeth removed -- two were impacted and two had already come in. My surgery took less than an hour from arrival to departure and there was no pain and very little swelling. My last dentist at a different facility left to go to a different office still working as a dentist but refused to tell any of her patients where she moved to and I could not find her even after searching the internet. So I searched for a different dentist and saw the name of Dr Fred Voorhes & all his great reviews. They agreed to see me right away because I was in such awful pain from a toothache. He immediately set me up for appt the following day to have 2 teeth pulled in back that were causing the pain. In meantime gave me medicine to help alleviate the pain. The next day I went in and had the teeth pulled with local anesthesia. I was a little nervous before hand but assured I would only feel a little pressure but no pain. Dr Voorhees and his assistant were very gentle during the procedure and made sure that I had no pain while getting my teeth out. Today I am pain free, no more toothache and thankful to Dr Voorhees for a job well done. I would recommend him to everyone. read more

All I had done was have a moler pulled or at least I thought it would be no big deal. We were told it was just I 30 minute procedure. Two hours later I was trying to get out of there as fast as possible with my husband who Thank God insisted on coming with me. I was in no pain when I went in but was told the tooth had to come out because it keeps having issues. I'm 52 and I've had plenty of dental work in my life and I've never experienced anything like this. It was a nightmare! 3 shots no gas no warning just breaking the tooth off in pieces with such force that I thought he was going to break my jaw. I laid there after about ten minutes for the remainder of all that time praying and begging God to not let my jaw break. I just knew it would. The blood running down my throat and pooling in the back of my throat made me feel like I was drowning and the taste of so much blood made me want to throw up which I knew would cause aspiration so I was panicking inside to try and control that as well. When I left there I went straight home and drank two big glasses of wine just to calm down and stop crying and I don't even drink. I'm not kidding. Bedside manner here is fabulous, I'll hand them that but there is no way in hell I'll go back for an implant, no way in hell! WHAT A NIGHTMARE! read more

I had my wisdom teeth out with Dr. Voorhees on a Friday. He has an excellent "bedside manner" - direct and efficient, explains his plans clearly and kindly. The procedure itself went very well, and I had VERY little pain the first few days. It was completely manageable with the ibuprofen prescription he had given me - I didn't even have to touch the hydrocodone. On the following Monday, I made the mistake of trying to eat a toasted sandwich, and between that and the swishing I had to do to get the bits of food out of my socket, I think I knocked loose a blood clot and gave myself dry socket. The pain got worse Tuesday, until it was almost unbearable. I felt as though a nail had been driven through my jaw. My follow-up wasn't scheduled until the following week, but I went into his office Wednesday morning in the hopes that they would be able to help somehow. He saw me right away, packed the sockets with medicated (and clove-soaked) gauze, and reassured me that I could come back immediately if there was any more pain, that he would even see me again the same day if necessary. He's been an excellent care provider, very professional, and clearly cares about the comfort of his patients. I feel that I've been given the best care I could have hoped for throughout this process. I've heard horror stories about wisdom teeth removal, but this is way better than I expected. read more

Dr. Voorhess removed my 3 wisdom teeth (two normal, one sideways, partially impacted and stuck in the bone) all under local anesthetic last week. I opted for local as I am still breastfeeding and admittedly I was worried it was going to be painful and traumatic - I could not have been more wrong. It was quick and painless. Dr. Voorhees did a fantastic job keeping me calm (encouraging me to take yoga breaths) while he got in there and got them all out. He also took time to tailor my care to make sure it was 100% safe for my daughter and I checking that the antibiotic and numbing medication were all breastfeeding compatible. I felt great walking out immediately after the procedure and experienced zero pain at all - in fact I didn't even need to take a single Ibuprofen throughout the recovery period. I had zero swelling in the days that followed and I was back on my feet and caring for my daughter immediately. I am so incredibly thankful for Dr. Voorhees and his team for taking such amazing care of me. read more

Excellent skills and service!! I found Dr. Voorhees from this website. After reading positive reviews and knowing his clinic is also very close to the place I live, I made an appointment immediately. The first appointment was carried out 2 weeks after the phone. Dr. Voorhees is very nice with a big smile and gave me a firm handshake. He did explain everything very well to me and also made sure all my questions had been answered. After the 1st appointment, I scheduled the surgery for two weeks later (it's today). In the day before operation, I took the medications following the instruction. At 745am this morning, I arrived at the clinic with my friend. A nurse guided me into the operation room, bring me a blanket and several towels, and tried made me as comfortable as possible. Then Dr. Voorhees came into the room, he said hi with big smile and asked me how was my day so far. Then he started with some preparation and also asked me if there was any question. I was quite sleepy because of getting up much earlier than usual, so I really couldn't think about any question. He was a little surprised by how calm I was. He started put IV into my arm ....and the next thing I knew was that someone pushed me to wake up. I was about to ask when the surgery was gonna start but noticed that my mouth was stuffed with bunch of graze pads and could barely talk. I was carried over to the recovery room, my friend had already been waiting there. Then I remember that doctor and nurse came to gave my friend some instruction and we headed back home. I slept for 2 hours since I got back home, then changed the graze pads in the bathroom. they came out with a lot of blood, so i put new graze pads over the wound and went back to sleep. It's surprising that the swelling on my face disappeared couple of hours after the surgery and I didn't feel any pain at all except for the moment that I tried to replace the graze pads. Right now it's about 16 hours after the operation, my mouth almost stopped bleeding, still maintain no pain, no swelling. I tried to eat very carefully, only juice and icecream, and gentlely brush and rinse my mouth. I will keep the postoperation status updated. Hope the is no further infection. Anyway, really thank Dr. Voorhees for his excellent skill and painless operation!! read more

I'd like to start this review by saying that I am a nervous patient. Even though I know that the procedure will be painless, I still have a lot of anxiety about having a tooth pulled. Very skilled oral surgeon. I sat down in the chair to get my 4 wisdom teeth removed, and got hooked up to an IV. Next thing I remember was waking up in a different chair. The pain afterward was a lot less than I expected, because the extraction went so well. I didn't even need to use all the pain relievers that were prescribed. I highly recommend Dr. Voorhees if you are getting your wisdom teeth taken out - he knows what he's doing! read more
