Even after years of regular dental visits, there's one mystery I still can't solve: Why do dentists…read moreand hygienists always ask how often you floss? No matter what you say, they're about to find out the truth anyway. On my first visit to Brentwood Dental Spa, they asked the same question. But for the first time in my life, the dentist told me, "Whatever you're doing with your flossing routine, keep it up. You're doing a great job." I've now heard that twice. Considering I spend 90 seconds a day grudgingly flossing, it was nice to know the effort is actually paying off. I chose Brentwood Dental Spa because of their excellent reviews and recommendations from several coworkers. I'm happy to report that the experience lived up to the hype. What stands out most is how personable and coordinated the team is. It never feels like you're being handed off from one person to another. Michael and Natalie at the front desk stay engaged throughout the visit and make the whole experience feel seamless. I've already had a crown replaced here, and the doctor explained that the replacement should last 15-20 years versus the more typical 7-10 years. I also appreciate that they don't bombard patients with reminders. One confirmation is enough. I don't need ten texts and five phone calls after I've already confirmed my appointment. Would I recommend Brentwood Dental Spa? Absolutely.

Dr. Torbati had good diagnostic abilities. The unfortunate part follows. Understandably he's a very…read moremature man, so his treatment plan did not include newer, less destructive techniques such as adhesive dentistry. Crowns, a 100 yr old technique that grinds down significant amounts of existing tooth enamel and relies on adhesive what is known to fail in approx 20 years, is perhaps too archaic to consider, when newer composite adhesion techniques preserve existing enamel that can never be regained. The biggest impediment to pursuing treatment is sitting at Dr. Torbati's front desk. Mary, who likely learned her high pressure sales techniques at a weekend auto sales seminar, made every attempt to pressure me into a contract. This was during Covid, when no one knew how long employment earnings would be suspended. I had already been completely unemployed for 10 months when our conversation occurred. Still she threatened increased prices if I did not sign by the end of the month, showed zero empathy for my painful condition and treated me like a potential criminal, who would skip out on bills. I had agreed to the $15,000 treatment price and informed her I could send $4000 immediately and another $1200 in 30 days, but for the purpose of transparent honesty, said that after that I might need to put treatment on hiatus, until more funds were available. She doubled down on her pressure, like an angry badger. Mary attempted to exploit the fact that I was in constant pain. I further explained I'd never left a bill unpaid and my commitment was real but my own ethics would not allow me to sign a contract, in which I was not 100% sure I could deliver on the terms. Mary~ I don't think she's actually human. Be sure to always to filter by 1 and 2 star reviews, because the 5 star ones are at the top.

Dr Chao is following in the high tradition of excellent dental care coupled with excellent individualized patient care that Dr. Horiuchi (who was at this dental office location before) exemplified. As other folks have said, Dr Chao is very personable, has come in after-hours for emergency care, AND follows up religiously to see how patients are doing. He and his office staff are very accommodating with appointments, and, as was noted, there's invariably free parking available and the office runs on time! Nothing but high praise (and I never write reviews of anything, but he's worth it -- an excellent dentist is hard to find!) read more

Fred Chao is a great dentist. We've been going to him for years and could not be happier. He knows his stuff; always caring, friendly and relaxed. He is so gentle, relaxed and proficient that It's actually possible to fall asleep in the chair. He also makes follow up calls to see how you're doing the day following a procedure. The staff is also friendly and proficient, which speaks well of his practice. The office mascot is an added bonus. I cannot recommend Dr. Chao more highly. read more

They had free parking in back for the last few years I've been going, but I guess that was only due to the pandemic it turns out. So now, they want something like $25 to park there for your dental visit, which I personally think is insane. There are meters on the street, and you can get lucky, but don't bet on it. The office is totally unassuming. It's not ritzy or glamorous like my previous dentist, who was a DDS to the stars. Unfortunately, my previous doctor got sick of Delta Dental nickel and diming him, so he stopped taking the insurance. So, I went to Dr. Wong based on a recommendation. And, I'm glad I did. He is a very knowledgeable doctor and isn't the type to suggest work or expensive products you don't need. His staff is very friendly and helpful. There is a male hygienist - I think his name might be Jose - who is fantastic. There is one female hygienist who will tear your mouth apart like a Cenobite. Ask for the male dental hygienist for your cleaning. So beside the one female hygienist and the parking, I can't recommend Dr. Wong enough. I know my gal found him when he turned out to be reasonable with his implant pricing after she lost a tooth years ago. So, I would recommend Dr. Wong without hesitation. The only reason I might not keep going there is I live all the way in the San Gabriel Valley now and getting there is like 90 minutes each way and with gas prices and their parking prices, I just need to find something closer to me. They requested my insurance information through messages, and I provided everything they asked for, so I assumed everything was good to go. On the day of my appointment, the front desk simply checked me in and did not mention anything about a co-pay. I was seated in the dental chair where they took X-rays and panoramic photos of my teeth. I will say that the dentist was great--very kind, professional, and pleasant to talk to. However, when it was time to check out, the front desk told me I had to pay a $76 co-pay. I was surprised because I believed my insurance should have covered it. I didn't really have a choice but to pay, even though it was a heavy expense for me as a single mom who is currently unemployed. That same day, I messaged the clinic to ask for clarification about why I had to pay. I believe that before any procedures are done, the front desk should clearly explain what will be performed and what the expected costs or co-pays will be--especially for first-time patients. Only then was I told that while they accept TRICARE, they are not in network. This should have been clearly explained beforehand because not everyone understands the difference, including me. Now I have received another bill in the mail for $207, which is very frustrating and unexpected. I wish the clinic had been more transparent about costs and insurance coverage from the beginning Update: After communicating with one of the staff members, Maria, she was able to look into my concern and help resolve the issue.
