The highlight of the summer was having the opportunity to learn from and dance with Lauren Anderson! I ended up taking dance at UH for the fall semester, so unfortunately I have not been back to dance here. The owner and founder, Sherese Campbell, taught the ballet class we were in. She's inspiring and really makes you want to dance better. The students are awesome, some of them are City Dance Company dancers and they are just as inspiring. Our summer intensive class ranged from teenagers to adults in their 30's-40's. The summer intensive classes are cool because you do (for example) ballet one week and hip-hop another week (for the first 1.5 hours) and then like yoga or tap for the second 1.5 hours. Intensive classes are usually from 9 AM - 3 PM, but I only went from 9 AM - noon and it was $150/week vs. $250/week. Currently don't have time/money to take intensive classes again, but would love to go back soon. It's pretty convenient if you live near Rice/ West U. If you are unsure about anything or have reservations, Sherese is always willing to help and encourage you!

All I would get back is a vague text message. I drove all the way from league city because I really wanted my daughter to try salsa class. Thinking to my self well, I can just register her when we get there. I get there, and they tell me she needs a mask, but they wouldn't provide her with one .. if it's a requirement, then they should provide it . Rebecca was very quick at responding to our emails and is really informative in each email she sends you. There is a 5 class wedding package that worked perfectly for us. A few months before the wedding, we weren't sure if we wanted to spend extra money on taking dance lessons for the wedding, but as the date was getting closer, we were feeling the pressure of putting together something, so we decided to check out yelp and came across The Dance Whisperer. We felt the price was reasonable, and I had confidence based on reviews that Rebecca would be able to help us from looking ridiculous during our first dance and sure enough she made us look amazing! Everyone raved about how great we were and even my mom said our first dance was so amazing and my mom RARELY compliments anyone or anything. We scheduled our five sessions after our first class to make sure we could get in the books before the wedding and that was not a problem since Rebecca had perfect times for us in the evenings after work. It really didn't take too long before we could get some basic steps down and tried incorporating some interesting turns into our routine, and she was very patient in making sure both of us had a firm grasp before moving onto the next level. Our wedding dance had some interesting turns, spins, and steps with a big finish incorporated into it. The stress and anxiety of it all leading up to "The Big Day" didn't help, and at one point my hubby took a wrong step, but was able to correct it flawlessly without anyone noticing--all thanks to her! Each appointment is 45 minutes. EXACTLY 45 minutes. If she says be there at 5:30pm, you better not knock on that door at 5:29pm (and steal a minute from the previous couple) or at 5:31pm because you already cut into your time slot. Of course, you can double book. That said, she is very professional and methodical in her guidance, and seems to live and breath the art of dance!

Having been going to FADS Katy for 4 months, and having gone to as many group classes as I can attend, my perspective has changed as I have learned more about ballroom dancing. When it comes to things we are not familiar with, beginners often over estimate their knowledge and skill level, and this is the problem with Yelp in general (crowd sourcing reviews and ratings to people who are generally not knowledgeable, or experts, about what they are talking about). At first I questioned the push for learning dances I had no initial interest in. But as I have gotten better at dancing in general, without knowing it, learning other dances besides the ones that I wanted to focus on has given me better control of my body, and understanding of the movements required to move across the dance floor. So while you may not be practicing the dance you want to specifically get better at, you become a better dancer, which makes it easier to learn, retain, and master any dance you focus on. The instructors and staff at FADS Katy are skilled at what they do, and if you put in the effort to learn and remember what they teach you, they will respond in kind, pushing you to become better at what you want to learn, reaching whatever goals you have. Their goals may or may not always align with yours, its a business. It is up to you to know what is your long term goal. But know that the path you think you want/need to take may not be the best way to get there. Luckily, its really only the introductory program where they show you the basics of the main dances. Once you complete that course, you get to choose what it is you want to focus on. For country dancing I recommending learning Two Step, Polka, and the Country Waltz. For latin dancing I recommend learning Salsa, Merengue, Rumba, and possibly Bachata. This is Texas after all. Every other Friday is a dance party with free food and booze for students and their guests. Get your party on.
