Choosing a new vet can be stressful, but from the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming and kind, which immediately made the experience feel more comfortable. The hospital itself is very clean, well organized, and has a calm, inviting environment. It feels like a place where both pets and their owners are genuinely cared for. The vet took time to explain everything clearly, which I really appreciated as a new client. There was a bit of a wait for the prescription after the vet saw my dog, but I wasn't in a hurry, so it truly didn't bother me at all. The staff remained attentive during the wait, and the overall experience still felt smooth and positive. I will definitely be back in the coming months when my dog is due for her shots. Based on my research, this clinic is also fairly affordable, especially considering the quality of care and location. I highly recommend South Park Animal Hospital if you're looking for a welcoming, trustworthy, and well-run veterinary clinic in a great area of San Francisco.

After a sleepless night, we called SFAMC at 6:30 am and decided to take him in for emergency care. Melissa who answered the phone and worked at the front desk was an angel. She was most friendly, compassionate, understanding and helpful throughout our visit, A tech took Ziggy him, took his vitals and told us they were normal. And we could either wait 3 to 4 hours to be seen by an ER doctor or made an urgent care appointment for the following day which we decided to do. We took Ziggy home and he started to drink and eat again so we thought the crisis was over and called SFAMC a few hours later to cancel the urgent care appointment scheduled for the following day. In the meantime, we have started to give Ziggy CatLax as we suspected that he might have hairball that's causing his vomits. Murphy's law, Ziggy started to vomit again after midnight a couple of times. So we called SFAMC again 6:30 am and was told best to call the next morning to try to secure another Urgent care appointment for Monday. Over the weekend, Ziggy started to vomit less and eating and drinking more. By Monday morning when we saw Dr. Richard Chu, Ziggy was almost back to normal. Nonetheless, we wanted to make sure there was no other problem rather than hairball that caused him to vomit. We have seen many doctors at SFAMC over the years and not Dr. Chu. So we were a bit worried. But it turned out Dr. Chu was the most caring, patient, compassionate, thorough and thoughtful doctor we have ever met there. Dr. Chu took the time to listen to our concerns, review Ziggy's patient history, recommend a care plan and gave us cost estimates on various treatments options. At the end , we decided to have Ziggy's blood drawn for senior panel analysis, his blood pressure measured, and gave him fluid for dehydration. We decided also to table abdominal ultrasound and echocardiogram after reviewing the blood test results. Dr. Chu called after 6:20 pm the same day to let us know that the majority of the blood test results had come back normal and to check on Ziggy. Dr. Chu also emailed us the day after, late in the afternoon and on his day off, to check on Ziggy again and also to let us know that the cardio pet pro BNP test results just came back it was slightly higher than last year and not the cause for Ziggy's gastrointestinal issues. WOW! Talking about going above and beyond! We were moved and speechless. It has been two days since we took Ziggy to see Dr. Chu and Ziggy is doing great now! Eating, drinks, sleeping well and no more vomiting. Thank goodness! As pet parents, there is nothing worse than seeing your little one suffers and feeling helpless and out of sorts. THANK YOU !!! Dr. Chu, Mellisa, and SFAMC.

The estimate matched what we received from another vet but what set SF Vet Hospital apart was the care we received from Dr gill and our vet assistants, Jamie and Joy. There were a lot of emotions as we navigated the cost of 11 extractions and surgery on an 11 year old dog. Dr Gill and his team remained patient with us as we asked questions and discussed all of our options. Jamie talked us through the estimate and gave us a thorough explanation of everything they would be doing. She did not apply pressure and helped us navigate the procedure and related costs with care. We also really appreciated the care we received after the surgery as Dr Gill took us through why he had to remove each tooth and what to expect in recovery. Right after surgery Dr Gill told us our dog would be a different, happier dog in 2 weeks and we didn't think it was possible as he was already an outgoing happy dog. Now, a few months post surgery - it's obvious Dr Gill was right. This surgery has greatly improved Theo's quality of life - he has more energy, plays more, and is overall more cuddly. We are so thankful for the care we ALL received at SF Vet Hospital and will definitely be recommending and continuing to bring our (now toothless) Theo here.

Now I can confidently say this was the most calculated, predatory experience involving any form of medical care I have ever encountered. This is saying a lot considering the state of our country's healthcare system. I brought my pet in for a rabies shot and routine travel evaluation. This was not some life saving procedure involving unexpected complications. There should be a fixed cost. I was given the run around each of the four times I asked how much the visit would total. I could not get a straight answer. Please recognize this as a sign that you will be taken advantage of. When I arrived at the vet, the woman working the front desk confirmed why I was visiting and proceeded to give me a bill which I had to pay before the actual visit began. It wasn't outrageous and I actually commented that I was pleased that the total was reasonable and immediately paid it. There was absolutely no mention that this was the first of three bills, each of which would get increasingly larger. The next bill was more than $400 and listed a number of optional procedures and unexpected charges like "biohazard waste disposal". Any reasonable person would assume that when they paid for the vaccination at the front desk, it would have included everything associated with that procedure. Remember, there was never any mention of a secondary bill, never mind a third. Following our brief visit, the doctor told me I needed a follow up. When I asked if it was included in the 2nd invoice he replied that he doesn't handle billing and sent his assistant in with a third estimate that was more than $900! I was absolutely floored by these unexpected charges and immediately understood why they won't tell you the total cost before visiting. This is essentially a bait and switch cleverly set up in stages. The bill went from ok, to unexpectedly larger, to absolute extortion. If they had given it to me in a single total like I requested, they are well aware I would have walked out. Remember, this was a routine visit for a vaccine and evaluation, not for trauma or life saving care. SF Vet Hospital will use the love you have for your animal to extract as much money as they can. This is a well designed, shameless operation that has taken the tactics of traditional hospitals and pushed them to the next level. I've lived in San Francisco for more than 20 years and I expect to pay a premium for almost every service but trust me when I say, keep searching. SF Vet will leave you feeling defeated and exploited.
