Stumbled upon this cute cafe a couple of weekends ago, on a Saturday afternoon! First impressions; really nice cozy decor, lots of seating options (bar stools, couch-chairs, benches, etc), friendly, quick staff (I asked for an English menu - they didn't have one, but were more than willing to translate the german one for me). Delicious-looking spread of cakes and pastries at the front, many of which were vegan (got a slice to go - would recommend!). Lots of breakfast options - I got the basic one with croissant, breads, 5 different spreads, yogurt, and fruit ... it was presented beautifully, and only came to about 6euro. Coffee was also good. Seems like a good place for families and couples alike. This area of Friedrichshain is not nearly as busy on weekend as Boxhanger Platz of course, but it's possibly even more worth checking out for that reason! Finally, the clientele seemed like a solid mix of mostly locals, and some tourists. It's the kind of place you may go to have a quick meal, but end up staying a couple hours to enjoy the sunshine the inside gets (or to sit out on the street patio, in nice weather!), the coffee, and the yummy cakes. I can only speak for the German Frühstück (cold cuts, cheeses, fruits) but it was a disappointing selection of standard meats and cheeses that could have easily come off a Lidl cheese/meat section. Bizarrely the mozzarella slices were dry, how long ago did they prep them?! The coffee was good. The fruits were ok, some were not fully ripened. I am unlikely to return considering the price to quality ratio feels to be off the mark. read more

One morning I got a crave for having a nice breakfast, something which rarely happens, as I remember I read some good reviews about this place and also - that it's really close by, so we sat down and took the Canada menu - the sweet one and the savory one, and shared. Drank a glass of fresh orange juice, and then the food arrived, even though it's not very comfortable to eat in such small plates, it was really tasty! And beautifully served, very impressed. Adding some photos so you would too :) Fresh ingredients, fresh food - fruits and vegetables were yummy, fluffy pancakes and really tasty flavored butter! I'm glad a friend showed me this tucked away coffee shop in Friedrichshain and have been here 3 times so far. The vibe of this place is cozy and new - maybe more in line with Mitte or Pberg, so I like having this option in F'hain. I think the decor is very cute. Prices are fine- not expensive, not super cheap. but the quality is good, and one morning when they weren't open yet I had a coffee from the corner bakery which was no comparison and a similar price. The staff here is nice. I like mochas and I guess mochas are pretty american, but they made me a cacao (hot chocolate) and dropped an espresso in it. Close enough.. I appreciate the custom order! I was served by a rude man. I asked what was Vegan, and without looking up from his handy he gave a vague run down, so vague that I didn't know which was which. I just ordered the one cake with vegan written on a little card in front of it, the guy didn't make a move to take the cake out of the window and cut me a slice, or ask for money, he just stood there looking at his phone. I assumed he would come over to me so I also asked for water before I went back to my table, again no reaction. Water! I repeated, he looks up from his phone looking super annoyed, and points to the far side of the counter with water jugs and glasses. I took a glass and the jug with just enough water for one over to my table. He comes over moments later, not with my cake, but to take back the jug and scold me for taking it. I followed him back to the counter and cancelled my order of cake, which he didn't even seem to remember. Never went back. Can't believe how rude he was, I speak German. Frau Honig is hit and miss service-wise! I've had to wait fifteen minutes for a takeaway coffee and another ten minutes for the sandwich I ordered along with it. Sometimes it's painful to watch the staff. Other times the music has been more like the barista's favourite band and unsuitable to the potential atmosphere. The place is gorgeous looking and the breakfast and takeaway sandwiches are lovely. The coffee is average along with most of Berlin. I only go there now for the fresh juices. Frau Honig doesn't charge wanky prices for hipster juice! read more

I really enjoyed their vegan breakfast called "Yes, Ve Gan". It was tasty, very filling, and quite inexpensive. The atmosphere at Frau Honig is very laid-back, and the server was super friendly. The Americano coffee was some of the best I've ever sipped. read more

Came here a few times with a friend for nice afternoon coffee and cakes. There are several options of deserts, always some of them are vegan. The atmosphere is pleasant and cozy, there is lots of sitting place inside and also tables outside. I came once to work, after reading a few reviews mentioning there is wifi, but we were told there isn't anymore :( So not suitable for working, but definitely pleasant as an afternoon getaway or a fun brunch place. read more

Staff was mostly friendly except for one waiter, whom I saw being very rude to several guests. It was very crowded (as most Sunday-brunch spots are), and the food was good, but it did take an hour to get to us. (Which is a little long for fresh fruit and a smoothie) I recommend getting a lot of food because it's relatively inexpensive and comes in small servings. read more

I keep returning to this spot because of location, but also because of coziness. Vintage sofas throughout, plenty of room to read, work on a laptop, or chat with friends. The coffee is always hot but there's cold drinks in the fridge. Another plus: the staff has always been super nice. Downside: no Longdrinks. No wifi when I went, but that may have been an oddity. It's cozy--bequem--and lotsa vegan and non-vegan sweets. It's very Brooklyn in many ways except the important ones: you're not surrounded by freelancers on Skype calls and there's plenty of outdoor seating. read more

The café decoration is quite nice and the food is good but the staff is unnecessarily stressed and it effects the whole atmosphere of the place. We were there on a saturday morning and the place was half full. They managed to forget part of our order and we noticed that they got other orders wrong as well. I only came here by accident. I planned to go to a different place for breakfast, but they had no free tables. And thank god they didn't. Frau Honig offers a nice range of different breakfast choices, lots of teas and delicious drinks. I've been there twice now and always enjoyed everything I ordered. Gemütliches Café mit Wohnzimmeratmosphäre und entspannter Musik. Essen ist lecker und der hausgemachte Kuchen wundervoll. Allerdings muss man immer viel Zeit mitbringen. Mal einen schnellen Cafe und Ciabatta zwischendurch geht gar nicht. Die Bedienung scheint immer völlig überfordert und langsam. Sie wechselt auch permanent, was vielleicht zu dem Problem beiträgt. Went for breakfast today. They didn't seem overly busy, but meals came so far apart my girlfriend had finished for 10 minutes before we decided to go and pay, thinking my ciabatta had been forgotten. It was ready at that point so got it to go. To be fair the food was great. Timing, not so much! read more
