So I'm new to the area and I need to visit a dentist as its been a few years well maybe a couple…read more So I ask my neighbour for a recommendation and she practically sings "yes I do know a good dentist and I have been using them for years", so she runs upstairs and gets the business card and she says "you have to ask for 'Mayank'" make sure you ask for him, make sure, she tells me about 100 times, drilled it into my head. So I ring them up and do what she says, the appointment is all set, I turn up and I am quickly attended to, the dentist comes in and I have no idea if he is Mayank or not but he is very good, very gentle. He gives my teeth a check and amazingly says I only need a couple of small fillings, don't dentists always say you need about 50 of them. Anyway in 20 minutes I'm finished, no anaesthetic needed, I'm a brave girl. And when I go and pay, I ask the receptionist, was that Mayank, Yes it was Mayank, Oh thank god or my neighbour would have told me off I'm sure. Oh and very reasonable price too. If you need a dentist do come here, I think he also has a practice in Mairangi Bay.

Returned days after due to excruciating tooth pain afterwards, and they said I pretty much had no choice but to extract my tooth. This day and age, and given how old I am, I thought that sounded pretty prehistoric. The clinic was closed the Dentist did not turn up, as she went on holiday, and for the following week too, which they referred to as EMERGENCY. Had to wait on the street in the rain. Wasted my time. Called up the practice, Shivam Practice Manager picked up, he literally disconnected the phone. When I complained the owner/director (face of the business and not a dentist) said ''GET OUT' and do not come to his clinic. Complain to whoever you want. He said he was very learned. Not Professional but very Arrogant and disrespectful. Even when Dr Nikita tried to resolve the issue, she was not allowed. This treatment was meted to us in spite of telling them that my husband was a heart patient and should not be upset as we are now advanced in age.. Bad Service. Bad Management. PLEASE NOTE the Good reviews are perhaps from their own staff eg. Jayen is also the name of their Practice Manager who reviewed only their practices at Stoddard Road and Point Chev. For the most part people don't like going to the dentist and probably because of the association of the two words, dentist and pain. At the very least if you're going to be experiencing pain you'll have nice surroundings here. The first time I came was for whitening. I am fortunate to not have any fillings or holes and had been wanting to give whitening a go. Unfortunately I was one of those people who experienced sensitivity and the treatment was painful (add to that the fact I had to watch the movie Boy one and a half times). My teeth did go a few shades lighter and the service I received was very professional and friendly. The great thing about Ponsonby Dentist is that they will give you a 20% discount if you book and pay online. I would say the television screens were a bonus too but that really depends what is playing.

I've had my fair share of teeth issues. A quarter of the way down I did a fantastic bail and face planted into the concrete. I got up and was disgusted to feel a roughness and emptiness where half my front tooth used to be! My friend, who was also only eight, told me not to worry as my tooth would grow back! (HA) Her mother was not so relaxed about the situation when we got back to her house. Anyway to cut a long story short I ended up here.. this small dentist in a cute little suburb just out of Browns Bay. Dr Steenkamp (Willy) fixed me all up good as new. Since then Willy has been my regular dentist and he has seen me through another 3 chips of that tooth (playground, bedroom cabinet, beer bottle) and eventually organised for me to go off and have a permanent crown put on that tooth to prevent yet another bloody chip. Overall great little practice. Very friendly receptionists at the front desk and reliable and quality treatment!

I had a bad wisdom tooth which had been painful on and off for a long time. I went to a Dentist in the UK, they took an X Ray of it and said there was no way they could take it out. So I was a little sceptical whether this chap could sort it but he looked at it, took an X Ray and said he could remove it. I was expecting to go through a bit of pain with this procedure but it turned out fine. He extracted it and I could feel it coming out - it was big and there was some blood. But his nurse cleaned it up and sent me on my way. Overall, I thought this a professional service and had complete trust in him. He and the nurse were very friendly to me too and put me at ease. Fortunately, I have had no trouble with my teeth since then but if I do, I'll be back to him.
