(4) Fried Green Tomatoes
Sandy W.

This establishment makes the best chicken wings ever! The coating on the wings was crispy but not heavy and very flavorful . Mac and cheese left me wanting more! I thought the cumber and tomatoes were a good sidekick! I had to get an order of fried green tomatoes because you can't find them anywhere except a sit down restaurant. Looking forward to going back!

We stopped by for dessert - Nutter Butter Banana Pudding - and I would highly recommend. Fresh homemade banana pudding full of Nutter Butter cookies. It was delicious. You receive a large helping so there is plenty to share. The staff were very friendly. This restaurant is located at the East Market which is a fun spot with many restaurants to choose from in one location. Highly recommend.

I recently tried out this restaurant at the East Market, and it was overall a nice experience. I tried the wings, alongwith yams, mac and cheese, and collard greens. The wings were made to order, and they came out hot and fresh. The yams and mac and cheese were both delicious, although I found the greens a bit on the salty side. I will certainly be back to check out the rest of the menu.

Fried wing, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and sweet potato

The food was fresh and tasty. The chicken was tender and crispy. The collard greens were not soggy and it had a nice flavor. The macaroni and cheese was not overwhelmingly cheesy which I appreciated. The yans had a good consistency.

Dirty rice, macaroni and cheese, bacon wrapped meatloaf, yams

We were totally undecided on where to eat and weren't really craving anything specific, so we ended up wandering into East Market. I saw fried shrimp on the menu and as a lover of cocktail sauce this quickly became my choice. The shrimp came with a breading that reminded me more of fried fish than my typical preference tempura shrimp batter; different, but I wasn't mad about it. My favorite side by far was the potato salad: it had a nice tangy flavor with just a touch of sweetness, and the potatoes were perfectly cooked; not mushy at all. The mac and cheese was decent, but didn't blow me away. It could've used a bit more seasoning to make it stand out. I was really looking forward to trying the cornbread dressing, but unfortunately it wasn't available; total bummer. As a self-proclaimed veggie lover, I have to say the greens were delicious. They weren't overly seasoned, which might be intentional to keep things neutral for all tastes. Personally, I would've liked a little more spice, but I get why they kept it mild. My lunch date tried the bacon-wrapped meatloaf and wasn't a fan. He felt the barbecue sauce missed the mark and the whole thing was way too greasy. His sides were yams, dirty rice, and mac and cheese. The dirty rice, though, was a standout; super flavorful and one of the better versions we've had. We also tried the Berry Lemonade and the Pineapple Mint Lemonade ($5 each). They tasted homemade, which was nice, but not super impressive overall. The Berry Lemonade had a bold, distinct flavor, but the Pineapple Mint didn't really taste like either fruit or herb. All in all, if you're in the mood for soul food and don't feel like cooking, this place could hit the spot. There were some highs and a few lows, but overall a solid option if you're nearby.

Food? Delicious! Service? Amazing! I will definitely be going back. I had meatloaf, mac & cheese, potato salad, and my first ever collard greens! Soooo good!

Maque choux

So good. It's another little counter in the East Market. I'd call it upscale soul food. I wanted all the entrées, and all the sides, and all the desserts. I picked bacon wrapped meatloaf, and since it's meat and three, you get three sides, so I got maque choux with corn and okra; baked beans, which were a special that day; and mac & cheese. All were excellent. Not as good as Sweetie's Mom's, but that is an unattainable goal. You could easily think these were homemade. The beans were thick and tangy, very good. Maque choux is a favorite and rare up here. Servings are large. For less than $20 I came in hungry and left overstuffed. The meatloaf was tender and meaty and flavorful, and wrapped in thick tasty bacon. Service was friendly and fast. They have a few drinks. I got the lemonade, which tastes homemade. I will definitely be back to try a few of the other items. (Not sure why the name is this way on the Yelp entry. I've always heard it as "meat and three," even run together: "meatnthree." And the sign has a little + symbol, so maybe that's why.)

Sides of macaroni, yams, and turkey smoked greens

Food was VERY good! There aren't many Soulfood options in Columbus in my opinion and this one was really flavorful and fresh. We got the confit turkey leg that includes three sides of your choice for 21.99 (we chose macaroni, yams, greens). It was enough to feed two people with more leftover. The only thing I wished was that it came put together (it's deconstructed). Overall check this place out!

Dirty Rice, Candied Yams with Marshmallows, and Fried Jumbo Shrimp

Had the opportunity to visit this restaurant in East Market for their A Soulful Snack Yelp event. It's in the market so it isn't a very big space only enough room for 2 employees. Both were very nice and working hard all day with all the yelpers and regulars. I did have a bit of a wait but that was to be expected with the amount of people. I enjoyed my food got the yelp snack and some of the regular menu items. Loved the chicken wing, shrimp, collard greens, and cucumber salad! Mac and cheese was good. Yams were a little watery and the rice was dry. Recommend giving this place a try as it was pretty tasty!

Nice old school butcher. Loads of different meats available, from them, and from Packo's, Falter's,…read moreetc. A few prepared items. Cold cases with Der Dutchman pies, packaged meats, snacks, etc. Amish jams and jellies and pastries. One stop shopping for some people, like me. I got a bulk pack of brats, some big premade burgers, and scrapple! Haven't seen that for years. If it's not raining this weekend, I will be grilling. And I will be having scrapple for breakfast at some point. Service was super friendly and fast. The wait was short, midday and midweek. Prices are very reasonable. Pretty easy access, although both the street and the lot can get busy. Mosley's left, Thurn's left, so this is one of the few remaining real butchers in the area.

When you arrive at Schuman's and enter through the front door, you'll notice a red number dispenser to your right. Take a number to determine your place in line. Once your number is called, you'll be quickly helped. This system ensures a fair and efficient service for all customers. At Schuman's, you can be sure that your meat and side needs for any meal, big or small, will be met. The butchers are not just knowledgeable, they are also incredibly customer-centered. We bought pork chops and were asked if the thickness was to our liking; if not, they were willing to cut what we wanted. Their helpfulness and support make me feel appreciated and confident in my choices. Schumans has an extensive selection of beef and pork products, and a delightful delicatessen with a variety of cold cuts and cheeses. While Schumuns does not make its own sausage like Thurns, it does carry a wide selection of Falter's products and Tony Packo's. At Schumun's, you can find more than just meat and deli products. They also stock staples like milk, bread, eggs, a wide variety of condiments, rubs, Tony Packo's pickles, and local butter by the log. This convenience adds to the overall satisfaction of shopping at Schumun's. We miss Thurns but are thrilled with Schumun's Meat. Give them a try.

The tomato on the sandwhich was huge, so I believe that they use like beefeater tomatoes, because those are the biggest grown tomatoes I can think of. I also spend way more than I should, but in the case of Kenny's Meat Wagon, $14 for two sandwiches didn't break the bank too much, but it did almost put me into a food coma. I've had several chances to check out Kenny and his wagon, but I just never gave it a chance. Today was that day and what a great day it was. I could smell the grill from a ways off, especially the Chicago style Italian beef he had sitting there marinading. The menu offered for regular options and two specials, one being a Veggie sandwich. I had to figure out how to try a bit of everything without overdoing it. I went with the Italian sandwich, which had a thick slice of Genoa salami and pepperoni on it and a pile of the Italian beef covered in veggies and spicy mayo. This.. should have been enough for me, but I had to get the Corby Dog too which was a 1/4 lb hot dog topped with pulled pork and homemade BBQ sauce and purple slaw. All the meats are local, and the awesome bread that it comes on is too. I downed that Italian sandwich pretty quick even though it was quite a bit of food and started to get the meat sweats. It was so good, but Kenny's not messing around with his meat, and you'll probably want to take it slow. As far as the Corby Dog, I saved that for later. About 15 minutes later. It was absolutely delicious, and the BBQ sauce mixed in with the sweet peppers and grilled onions was really tasty. I wanted to get this review out here before I fell asleep at work, because the food was just so good. I see now why he won an award at the Columbus Food Truck festival. He's also selling OH Chips! If you find him, you have to give it a try. The Facebook and Twitter pages are updated daily, so that'll be your best bet!
