Despite some negative reviews left by some of the past shoppers, my experience with this liquor…read morestore the other day was quite good. The selection is not necessarily massive. For the particular brand of tequila I was in for, however, the store only carried the Blanco (silver) one so no Reposado and/or Anejo. I, however, was able to walk away with its tequila-based coffee liqueur (Cantera Negra Cafe) which I had always wanted to try. The employees (pretty much all of them) were very professional and courteous for my shopping needs. The store is a good size. Very organized where things aren't cramped into the space. Very clean indeed. On Thursday and Saturday, they do tastings (4-7pm on Thursdays and 3-6pm on Saturdays); the designated tasting area is on the north end of the shop. You can park in the Whole Foods garage (there is a door to it inside the shop; this is convenient especially when the weather is bad with rain or show.) I don't come to this part of town very often but it's nice to know that a good liquor store with high-end feel exists right in the heart of Belmar shopping area.

Their prices are a bit steep for a place with bars on the windows ($14 for a 12-pack of Mich Ultra), but they're made up for by the super-nice guy behind the counter. He's clearly not of Latino descent, but he was stumbling through a transaction in broken Spanish to the Mexican gent in front of me in line with earnest diligence. When I stepped up to the counter he smiled broadly and proudly explained that he was learning Spanish. He then complimented me on my wallet (a recycled Bobby Brown cassette, which I made because I'm awesome like that), and we shot the breeze as he rang me up. It's so nice when people actually TALK, you know? Too many people are all stiff and silent business nowadays. This guy was a real breath of fresh air. Of note: along with your basic schwag beers and more-common micros, you can also buy wine (fortified and non) and the hard stuff here. They've even got a section of shelving dedicated to "cordials." You know, for when you're feeling all classy and shit.

It's an Hispanic part of town and seems to directly cater to the local population. Lots of Mexican brands of alcohol and even juice mixers. I really enjoyed the "south of the border" options like Jumex as that's my favorite juice brand. The staff were very polite, the prices are average and reasonable and parking was easy. The building was clean enough and in decent repair. I bought a few items, checked out and went on my way. This is a great liquor store and its Hispanic feel is welcome and refreshing. The staff were bilingual and that's very helpful to non English speakers.

I asked the woman at the counter where I could find it and she walked with me to get it. They had exactly what I was seeking and it was even a few dollars less expensive than the liquor store cost to my house. The parking was easy, the lot was well lit and the building was clean and well maintained. Both employees in the store were attentive and friendly. Within five minutes, I was in and out with exactly what I wanted. I'd gladly ship this store again. Ps. White Grenache was all the rage in the 80s and 90s and now it's hard to find.
