Don't get me…read morewrong, it is obvious the property is kept up and has had a recent facelift but it is a lakeside motel. It doesn't really beckon you in. However once we opened the door we were pleasantly surprise, especially with the patio. Sitting outside you have a view of the lake as well as a nice water feature and an old boat that seemed great for the kids to play on. The other table had a few kids with them and they were able to run around and play and it was enough space that it more than fine as a diner without kids. The menu is pretty simple. A lot of seafood, which is not my thing, but they had a Michigan salad so that is what I ordered. Hubs got the perch sandwich. We got the onion ring tower to start. Food was all really good. They have a lot of fry options which is pretty cool. The star of the meal? The spicy Bloody Mary. No lie, it might be the best I have ever had. I make the best Bloody Mary. I obsessed over it and I tolerate most when I am out but this one was impressive. So much so that I told our server to tell the bartender how good it was. We were here for a late lunch. I have no idea how this place is for dinner or as a bar hang out but I highly recommend lunch on the patio on a beautiful day. 5 stars all the way.

The building has been completely remodeled and is clean, bright and comfortable with great views of Lake Huron. The waitstaff was attentive and efficient and the meals ordered by myself and the three others with me were all wonderful. One friend remarked that his Cod Basket was among the best he had ever had. I know that I thoroughly enjoyed my Bourbon Steak Sandwich. I plan to return and suggest that if you are passing thru the area you give it a chance. I don't think you'll be disappointed. BTW - they have motel rooms too! The restaurant is not open 24 hours, just the motel. I believe they start serving at 11.

Ignore all reviews before late 2024; every experience before that was regarding prior ownership…read more The Garfield changed ownership at least four times since 2018. The current owners (2024 and 2025) -- using the business name I'd Simms, have kept much of the historic architecture intact. That is appreciated. The superficial changes, although there is clearly an attempt to make it artistic, fail in several key areas. Instead of a warmth suited for a historic building, the visual atmosphere is more akin to entering the lobby of a hospital, with all it's bright-light and sanitary harshness: white walls, white granite [I don't think it is fabricated quartz, but haven't gotten in my knees to look under the slabs] bar counter; harsh LED lighting (the smokey gray shades fail to soften them). Adding dimmer switches and reducing the headache-inducing glare would work wonder. A bar with floodlight brightness is so hyper-modern in its personality -- besides not wanting to see all details of every bar patron in harsh light -- is a glaring juxtaposition for a historic building. If they would be more sensitive to the aesthetics of the history, the new owners and their vision would be an even greater positive boon to the town. The owner is very engaged with the local community, fun and warm with the customers, and appears to sincerely care about the spirit of the building and the town. He works tirelessly to ensure the drink offerings and food selections are high quality. He even is actively, hands-on engaged in both the big and small details to ensure everything runs well each day. The lead bartender is excellent with the customers, and amazing and artistic with her seasonal drink creations. she works tirelessly and makes everyone feel welcome, as well as being attentive and fast to serve, whether the bar has five or fifty customers. Both these key members, and the rest of the staff. are friendly, considerate, and professional with all. They have the vision and energy to continue their planned renovations, including the guust rooms upstairs. If they just tone down the harsher post-modernist, sanitary style and imbue more historic respect and warmth, they will create a new Garfield worthy of their obvious skill -- l and even more importantly, worthy of their obvious city's, the State's, and our country's historic landmark.

We walked into a one-bedroom apartment. The bedroom had two queen-size beds then off to the right was a living room with a big screen TV, a dining area and a small kitchen area that was fully furnished with dishes, coffee pot and everything you needed for an amazing weekend. On the table was a welcome gift from the owners, which was a pleasant surprise. They have a small gift shop which was where we got to meet some of the workers. They were such Pleasant people! We told them we were there for a girls weekend - and really had no plans. They gave us recommendations for places to go and things to see. They even introduced us to one of the charter boat captains, Captain Dan, who let us girls take pictures on his boat pretending like we were out fishing! This is something our husbands had been talking about doing for years and never did - so we wanted to tease them - and Captain Dan played along with our shenanigans - and laughed about it as much as we did! Outside they offered a community fire pit - and made sure there was plenty of firewood for us girls to enjoy a wonderful evening fire overlooking Lake Huron! As usual, our weekend went way too fast and we all agreed, that we were already looking forward to coming back next year! Thank You for an Amazing weekend!!
