Inside it seats around 30 and is decorated in a modern style that still manages to be warm and welcoming. We visited recently for a meal for 4 on a Friday evening. The restaurant was nearly full. All our starters and mains were served in a timely manner and were delicious. I ordered the scallops and duck and both were brilliant. This is not a mega cheap place but it is worth the money charged. We spent around £35 per head with drinks. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming.

It doesn't look much from the outside but from the moment you go in, you are made to feel at home. A clean modern restaurant. All our food was served promptly, and was devoured just as promptly - all excellent. I have visited many "Italian" Restaurants both in Italy & here in the UK and I have to say this is certainly in my top ten! Good food made from quality ingredients, with excellent service is never cheap (if cheap is what you want, there are many pub restaurants to choose from) La Nonna is reasonably priced for the standard of food & service you receive, you can pay a lot more elsewhere for a lot less! Well worth a visit

But if you can't even reach infamy, or David Hasselhoff's "so bad it's good status", you can always sing in your son's restaurant. And that's exactly what Renato Pagliari did until his recent death, nearly a year ago last July. And if knowing the restaurant is owned by the son of half of one of the worst British music duos isn't enough to send you down to Renato's, let me give you a few more reasons. One, the food is delicious. It's not mind-boggling, but it is very tasty, very traditional Italian fare. They have their constant classics, such as Tagliatelle al Salmone, and the Lady and the Tramp favourite, Spaghetti witha Meataballsa. However, they change their specials daily, and you can get a real treat if the chef is feeling generous. I've given Renato's three stars for a few reasons. First of all, the chap who runs the place is quite cheeky. I actually had my bum pinched by him once, and when I told him off, he just smiled and started singing as he walked away. He's a harmless old coot, but he is a coot, so ladies, keep your partners behind you. Secondly, it's a very small restaurant, and seating can be quite difficult. Often, even when you book, they still seat whomever walks in off the street, so you have to wait up to ten minutes for your table. The restaurant is small enough to make a private conversation slightly awkward for the table next to you. But all that said, this charming Italian restaurant, tucked down a side street off of Tamworth's town centre, is worth the price, the wait and the bum-pinching. It's an adorable little place, full of quirky charm, expensive Sangiovese and excellent food. If you've got a big appetite, get a starter, as the mains are full of flavour, but not full.

We were stuck for somewhere to eat last week however and thought we would give it a go for the hell of it. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. The menu is quite extensive. Besides the obvious stone baked pizzas and freshly prepared pasta dishes there is an array of seafood to rival any City restaurant. Prices were reasonable too. Isettled on spaghetti Marinara and my friend decided on a smoked ham pizza. We also shared a huge stone baked thin crust garlic bread as a starter. Everything we ate was delicious and the portions were hearty,. The waitress was like a breath of fresh air, vivacious and helpful in suggesting wine choices. She also ensured she was attentive without us feeling the slightest bit rushed. It was a Saturday night and we were lucky to get the last table, yet it did not feel cramped or noisy. It was cosy and intimate and would be a lovely choice actually for a first date. We were celebrating my friends engagement and it was ideal as they gave us plenty of time to chat. They also did not bat an eyelid when we both burst in to tears as she asked me to be her 'chief bridesmaid'. They do a three course set menu every night except sat for £11.95 which I want to sample so I think I may be dragging my husband back.
