It obviously has different…read moreguises, ranging from a breakfast spot in the mornings, to light lunches and tea to a restaurant at dinner time I was offered a choice of where to sit and I loved the fact that the different areas had very different atmospheres - a large airy sunlit but covered large back room to more intimate rooms in the front. I was also pleased to see root beer float on the drinks menu - ahh, nostalgia when I ordered it Food-wise, I started with the mozzarella salad which was beautifully plated but strangely failed to wow my palate. Perhaps a bit more dressing would have provided a contrast to the mini mozzarella balls and tomato. Also, the advertised toasted pumpkin seeds were missing from my plate and would have added some crunch. A good idea with good mix of ingredients but needs a little tweaking For main course, I had a lovely robust spaghetti sausage carbonara. The weather was a bit cold and wintery and the solid carbohydate base of pasta, meaty sausage and bacon covered but not swampedin a cheesy sauce was a great antidote to the chill outside. I did struggle to pick up the advertised lemon zest but I don't think it was ever going to stand much of a chance against the other ingredients I was also very impressed that my server sorted me out a small (and cheap!) side order of deep fried courgette as I wanted to try it but didn't want the £4.25 starter portion size. It's nice to see when restaurants are flexible for their customers. They were nice but I do have to give the edge to the version at Two to Four restaurant across the road A solid 4 stars with a lovely variety of meals available from cakes to more substantial meals

Although traffic is zooming past on this main road, you can pull in and park up in a layby just outside the restaurant. The restaurant is decorated in an eclectic manner with the dining area divided into little nooks and crannies. This family run restaurant has been here for decades and the owner told me that most of the menu hasn't really changed. Together with the friendly waiting staff, the warm welcome is apparent and from the conversations I overheard with fellow diners, they have a lot of repeat custom. A little plate of canapes arrived while I perused the menu - small pieces of cheese, olives and peppers. The only disappointment of the evening was the small size of my pineapple juice. I started with scallops, white wine, honey butter and chilli. The dish has good concepts with the various components balancing each other out and you certainly got a lot of scallops. I especially liked the fact that they served the corals of the scallops as well as the white flesh. My main was fegato (liver) a la Griglia. The liver was grilled but I would have loved to see and taste scorch marks on my liver, which you get in other Italian restaurants. This came with some bacon to add a lovely salty contrast and I got a selection of vegetables, which had to be ordered separately. I finished off with the classic tiramisu, which was a lovely version of a dessert it's hard to get wrong. The rustic charm of this restaurant is palpable from the presentation of the food to the warm welcome and it's easy to see why it has survived the test of time

At check in i was recommended to Zeno by the manager at the hotel, i am usually dubious of recommendations from hotels, i always assume there's some collusion going on, but i checked the place out online and although there were very few reviews on Yelp they were positive so i took the plunge. The restaurant was literally 3 mins away from my hotel and walking in there's a small bar on your right and many tables both left and right. I was greeted by a very friendly host who seated my right away at a small table by the window on a relatively quiet Monday evening. The menu had a varied selection of Italian classics and some chef inspired creations utilizing fresh seafood and offerings from the land, all looked and sounded delicious. I went for the bruschetta app and i am so glad i did, delicious garlic toast rounds topped with super fresh tiny tomatoes with arugula, olive oil and balsamic drizzle, one of the best i've ever had. For mains i went for a very simple chicken with mushrooms and garlic in a cream sauce tossed with ziti, topped with fresh grated parmesan cheese, another outstanding choice! My only regret is that i was too full to try a dessert, based on the food i'd had i'm sure the desserts would have also been fantastic. The relaxing dining room is bright and cheerful but yet still retains a feeling of intimacy, a great place for families and couples alike.
