Who ever thought I could give this rating to a place with "Frankfurt" in the name? Yeah well, I came here because I heard they had a good "Cubano." ...and I've been hankering for a good Cubano. We're talking about ham, lechón (roast pork), pickle and mustard on a really good bread, the outside toasted to perfection.
So a little background first - the place really does look like many other mom and pop dive-y restaurant bars in Barcelona. There are ample tables inside, and a number more outside, just across a quiet street. The owner/waiter seems like a really nice guy, and originally hails from Havana. So I guess you'd expect him to know about a good Cubano.
So take a look at the photos. These things are HUGE! (Note: If you get a whole one, be sure to ask them to package half of it to go.) I wound up removing about 2/3 of the ham and eating it separately, as I found it tended to overwhelm the lechón. Also, you have to add your own mustard (there's plenty of mustard, mayo and ketchup at table, but anything other than mustard is *anathema* on a Cubano.
Oh, they also have a nice selection of beers, including a Belgian IPA on tap! If you have room for (and want) a dessert, you'll have to get there early as they tend to run out. Oh, and their coffee is every bit as good as their sandwich. So... I'm looking forward to a return visit! read more
