I love Frank Bees, when my kid turned 1 I hired a magician and an Elmo who came with his little assistant. The magician was cool. Elmo was for show and the kids to see. Years later I became an entertainer, spreading joy and painting faces. The best! We went on a Sunday, right before they closed and their staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. They knew their inventory inside and out and had great recommendations. This online store is abysmal and I'd award it zero stars, if that were possible. My issues with the store are many; I purchased 3 items and paid via PayPal. Having received the initial order confirmation e-mail, I checked about a week later to see why I had yet to receive further correspondence. I checked PayPal and saw my payment was pending, so I checked the Frank Bee site and noticed my order status was now sitting at cancelled. There was no e-mail to state why and no update, so I e-mailed them to ask why it was cancelled - and about a week later, I've yet to receive an email from them. The joke is, the 3 items I ordered are still listed as being in stock on their site. No explanation as to why it was cancelled and I'm going to have to wait nearly a month for the PayPal transaction to cancel. Avoid this crappy business and hopefully it will whither away to oblivion, where it deserves to be. read more

Frank Bee's is a Bronx staple. If you grew up in the neighborhood, you went here for either a school uniform, school supplies, a Halloween costume, craft supplies, or party needs. Or all of those! Because this store is and has been instrumental to the little parts of a lot of people's lives. Sure- sometimes they're not the friendliest bunch. But that's the luck of the draw anywhere you go. I happen to always have a good experience when I go here. But also perhaps because it's a jolt of nostalgia every time I walk in. During Halloween, you will find a wide array of costumes. Costumes and accessories cover almost every inch of the walls. That's in addition to clothing racks with costumes strewn about. It's a pretty big store, so it's quite impressive. I went here recently looking for a specific costume, which I did find there, and it was on sale. I must also note that even during off season- costumes are readily available. My favorite find though was the genuine vintage Halloween decorations and goody bags they were still selling. These kind of little things make me really happy. Again- nostalgia. They also sells knick knacks, household items, toys, party supplies, etc. Think of your typical five and dime store. That's Frank Bee. If you're ever in the area, make this a must visit. I wish I could give Frank Bee's 0 stars. They were extremely unprofessional and one of the worst experiences I have ever endured. I would never recommend this company. I rented a tent, chairs and linens from them. They kept quoting me different prices for their rentals and there were so many hidden fees. They were supposed to deliver my tent and chairs a day before the party. They didn't deliver the tent or chairs until 3 hours before the party. When the tent finally arrived they brought the wrong equipment to assemble the tent. The employees who delivered the tent did not have any knowledge as to how to assemble the tent. Once the tent was finally assembled it was completely FILTHY. I had an all white themed party which was completely ruined by a stained and muddy tent. When I called to request a new tent I experienced the worst customer service. I spoke with the owners and they used foul language and were incredibly rude. Not to mention that the chairs that were delivered were also completely covered in mud. I had called to request a new tent and chairs, but Frank Bees could care less about the quality of their equipment being delivered. I would never use this company again and I hope this review deters you from renting from them. This is a foul money hungry company. They are only out to scam customers. They are not accommodating. I agree with other reviews that these people can get the items to you quickly but I ordered some items to put together as a Halloween costume and paid extra to rush deliver it. All items were charged but when I emailed and called them because one item was left out, I spoke to INCREDIBLY RUDE people, including the manager named "Cathy." She hung up on me and told me lies just to get off the phone, including that the item was not charged and that the website clearly states that items ordered for Halloween are not returnable, which both were obviously false. Additionally, the color of one of the items didn't even match the swatch shown online. Maybe this isn't a bad place to shop when you know exactly what you're looking for but if you're unsure about you need, DO NOT order from them as getting your money back is not as easy as the website makes you think. read more

The Party City in Bay Plaza was a waste of time and life. Of course, it's my fault for procrastinating, but when you wait on line for a ridiculously long time just to find out that you're out of costumes, it's pretty frustrating. Disappointed, I went back home and remembered that Frank Bee was over on Tremont. I loved the store as a kid so I figured, why not give it a try? There was a line to enter the store on Halloween afternoon, but it moved relatively quickly. Inside, the store is cramped and a little messy, but the variety of costumes and styles is great, much better than Party City. Customer service was really helpful, too. My only complaints were that 1) they're a little expensive and 2) you can't try on the costumes the right way, you have to pull them over your street clothes. read more

Frank Bee's saved me from possibly dealing with a very upset child. My son told his classmates that he was going to be Brobee from Yo Gabba Gabba. It may have also been a stroke of luck but after numerous phone calls to other costume stores; some which did not carry it at all, others that ran out. In any case, I did call the store a couple times to make sure they still had the costume in stock. I sort of got the gist that the store does not pride in customer service as much as the appearance of the interior store that looks like an episode from Hoarders. I stood in front of a younger girl for a couple minutes, watching her drink soda from the 2 liter bottle before I called for her attention. I wasted my money on the absolutely last Brobee costume in all of NYC (that I knew of) along with some other oddities. It was my first time going to the Bronx. I happened to walk to the store which took about 20 minutes and on the way back took the BX 42 bus back to the subway station! Honestly though - the costume was $26 and it started to run along the neck and around the ankles as he tried it on for the first time. A lot of the stuff is made in China and not the most eco friendly, if you know what I mean. Be sure to bring your own reusable bags for your goodies. read more

Do not hire this place for anything. I contacted them last week and asked for entertainment on a Tuesday at 5 o'clock for my son's fifth birthday. I asked for a clown and a character. Called for a quote for my wedding. The woman who answered the phone was very rude. She was very annoyed with my request for prices on tables and chairs. She asked the date while I was speaking. Rushed me as I was asking about prices, rudely put me on hold while I was talking... came back to the phone sounding more annoyed, and asked me again what the date was. DO NOT USE ON LINE SERVICE - WORST EVER!! I would give this zero stars if I could do so. I can't say anything about store itself - I used on line service to place an order for shirts. I ordered on 9/25/14. Email said I should expect in 3 - 5 business days (actually 2, but I cut them some slack and thought 3 -5 was reasonable). It never said that if the item wasn't in stock that I wouldn't be contacted. 10 days later I call and email (both). Email - never returned. Call, I got hung up on twice and never got a call back. Finally on third call I asked about my order (AGAIN, NEVER TOLD NOT IN STOCK AND WAITING - THEY SAID IT WOULD SHIP "SOON"). So I wait another 7 business days. GREAT VARIETY, EVEN GREATER SERVICE- My daughter calls me at work at 3:48 pm to remind me that she has superhero day TOMORROW (ahhhh) I rush out of work at 5:00 pm (AKA RUSH HOUR), hop in my car, encounter slight traffic, pick her up, (dread having to go downtown in horrible traffic - hoping I would possibly find a superhero costume that is age appropriate) by this time it is 5:20 pm and I remember there is a Frank Bees in East Tremont. I rush to Frank Bees (get stuck in traffic, anyone who travels on Buckner blvd to merge into the expressway knows how bad it can get at this time) I finally get to Frank Bees, I park on the opposite corner slightly blocking the pedestrian walkway (maybe about a foot ) and run across the street to where the Frank Bees store for uniforms is located (I found out today this store is completely separate from the costume store next door) by the time I got to the Frank Bees costume store they were closed, gates down and all (understandably so it was past 6:00 pm) my daughter and I just stare at the door in disbelief she was actually trying to look inside when a gentleman approached us and asks if we needed anything so we answered "Yes", he asked what we needed and we told him we needed a superhero costume for my daughter and asked if they had any, he said sure come on in (this man was on his way home but saw us standing there and decided to re-open the store and help us anyways - after closing time - talk about customer service) while he opened the store I asked if it was ok for me to move my car because I was afraid of getting a ticket -what I thought was a parking spot was really a bus stop, so I had to move the car back to where it was and ran back into the store. He looked through quite a few costumes for the right size in the middle of which I asked if they gave a lot of ticket around there, he said yes, so I asked if I could possibly check on my car and hopefully move it to avoid a parking ticket-the thought of blocking a pedestrian sidewalk and getting hit with a $160.00 ticket would have highly upset me- in total I stepped out about 3 times until someone moved and I was able to park right in front of the store. He helped me find a cat woman costume that was small in the women's section and fit her perfectly (the costume is decent, age appropriate and accommodates her wearing clothing underneath to keep her from freezing). The store appears to be a bit cluttered but he knew where everything was and everything seemed very well organized. At no point did I feel rushed. He was calm, patient, friendly and extremely helpful-making suggestions and showing all the variety the store had to offer. I felt bad for keeping him from going home and I thanked him, acknowledging that it was almost 6:30 pm, he was very graceful and stated it was no problem indicating he did not live far. this place is so sketch. I ordered my daughter's school uniforms July 31. she started school mid August. I was charged for the uniforms 8/1 and never received them in the 5 day window. first call, they said they'd ship them 2 day air and email me tracking. never got tracking info. second call, then third call and finally got a tracking number. Using the tracking number, I learned the package was sent to new york. Forth call, I asked for reimbursement since the items never arrived and dtr started school I 2 days. They offered to ship overnight on 8/14 and half off all uniform shirts. I declined and asked for my money back. they promised credit back to acct in 24 hours. as of today 8/25, no money back. called this morning and the lady, colleen, said I needed to contact my bank as they did their part to reimburse me and it was out of their hands. I opened a case with my bank to get my money back and finally got the reimbursement a week after 8/25. one and a half months later, some resolution. while I wanted to support American made products, this business was terrible. do not use their online uniform services!!! read more

I have been going to Frank Bee's for several years and never had a problem with them until recently. I scheduled a bounce house rental and then canceled the same day after finding a cheaper company. They ackowledged the cancellation but charged my credit card anyway. After discovering it several months later and bringing it to their attention, they still have not refunded my money. They have ignored my emails even after they told me to email the information so I could be credited. It has been an up hill battle with them for the past few months. Horrible and embarrassing character booking experience. I booked a character and clown with 3 weeks advance for a my toddler's birthday. I spoke in person and left a deposit with the owner. After 10 minutes had past of the scheduled arrival, I decided to phone Frank Bees. A young lady answered and I explained my issue, she then placed me on hold. After 10 minutes waiting on hold the call ended from her end. I called again and I believed the owner answered. I again explained my issue and he asked if the entertainer ever called me prior to the party date. I answered "No, but I did visit the store last week and I inquired about the remaining deposit and was told not to worry, everything was fine". His response was "who told you that?" I said "the gentleman at the cash register" Under his breath he muttered "pssh, he doesn't know anything". !!! He then asked for my information and said he will call me back in 10 minutes. After 15 minutes past, I called again and was told that the entertainment was coming in 45 minutes more!! I was mortified and anxious. Imagine being in a room filled with 12 anxious children asking every 5 minutes "where is the clown" and "Is he coming!".... Finally, the clown and character arrived 1 hour and 20 minutes later! They came obliviously unprepared and unfriendly. He did not greet the children nor smiled! He was sloppy and unprepared. He then stood in pure silence just staring at me for about 4 minutes then to ask me for a small table. He did about 2-3 non-entertaining magic tricks, face painting and balloons with NO music playing. He was done in 1/2 hour! And asked me what to do next, after I approached him because he was just standing there doing nothing! I then quickly asked for pictures with the kids and to sing HB. To top it off the birthday boy saw his favorite character with his HEAD off!!! They constantly asked for beverages, which it didn't matter to me. However, they seem more interested in water and cupcakes then completing their job fully. First off, I hired entertainment therefore THEY could entertain not I!! DO NOT USE THIS STORE. THIS PLACE IS SCATHY!!!! This was the worse mistake we have eve made. We rented 10 folding chairs for Thanksgiving. When it was time to return it, the man at store said to call him 10 minutes prior to getting there in which we did. When we called a woman instead picked up and told us to return the chairs to the store where paperwork was completed, so we did. When we get to the store some big fat mouthy italian man gives attitude and ordered us to return the chairs to another location. At that point being that we were in a cab paying extra money to return the chairs we tried to explain to him that the woman who picked up was the one who instructed us to return the chairs there, but he continued to be rude and then told my friend that he is lucky he is not charging him a late fee, mind you the chairs were well returned on time. We told him to go ahead so we could sue him, at that point we eventually got fed up with his ratchet attitude and we dumped the chairs and left it right there as the woman instructed.
