Dogsports Stay & Play Day Camp - This was our dog, who died in their care.

Dogsports Stay & Play Day Camp

(5 reviews)

My 4 month and 23 day old puppy, Binx, died while in care at DogSports. I'm only able to post…read morelimited information here, but will provide a link below for full documentation regarding his death. Binx had documented crate anxiety. A DogSports employee told our vet office that Binx had been unable to settle himself all day. Binx was there 8 hours that day, had noted crate anxiety, employees were aware he was in distress, and NO ONE CALLED until he has passed away. He was found in his crate dead, with vomit and diarrhea. Other PUBLIC information, the owner of the DogSports, Joanne Reaney, was charged with 35 counts of theft for allegedly embezzling $517k from her employer years ago. I'm not an attorney, but the court of common pleas document looks like an agreement was made for payback to potentially avoid the felony charge/jail time (PA criminal law Rule 586). In addition, more PUBLIC information, there is an open state tax lien on the business and there appears to be more than 10 open civil cases (with monetary judgments of over $100k due). It also appears that the owner lives over an hour away, out of state. They are a poorly run business based on their open judgments and open tax liens. They take in an unlimited number of dogs per day, regardless of employee to dog ratio. No pre-dog camp interview is performed on your dog. You just show up and hope your dog is taken care of. In some cases, like mine, your pup doesn't return home after their visit.

I contacted Columbia Animal Hospital after being referred there by the manufacturer of the…read moreSynovetin OA injection since it was one of the closest locations to me. My original plan was just to schedule a consultation for that treatment, since the injection costs over $2,000 and requires advance planning. At the consultation, my dog was in a lot of pain. The doctor first considered giving him a steroid shot for temporary relief, but then said he was not a candidate for the steroid at that time because of the testing. Instead, the doctor recommended PRP therapy. I was told most dogs start to show improvement within about two weeks. Unfortunately, even after almost six weeks, there was no improvement at all. My dog still could not use his leg, and things actually got worse when his rear legs started having issues too, even though he was on pain medication. After I updated my regular vet, she told me I should NOT have used Columbia Animal Hospital for PRP. That was especially frustrating because PRP was never the reason I went there in the first place. I only went for a Synovetin consultation. I was also very upset about what I saw after the procedure. When my dog was coming out of recovery, I witnessed Dr. Bartlett step on his leg with his boot. In the end, my dog continued to decline and was in pain, and I had to make the difficult decision to put him down. One more thing to be aware of, if you do not have cash on hand for a procedure, they will charge you a ridiculous fee ($65) just to run your credit card. This was an extremely difficult experience during an already emotional time, and overall it was very disappointing.

I am very impressed with the recent service we received this morning at Columbia animal hospital…read more The doctor was able to actually give us an emergency noodle because our cat is spraying and/or marking. The doctor, and the office manager are extremely professional and are very willing to work with all customers. I definitely recommend them to friends and strangers alike

She did not send many updates without me asking which I didn't like, but my dog seemed happy there so I let it go. The last time she did not send a single update all day. I texted her and asked how everything was going and she didn't answer for almost an hour and a half, until I texted a second time to make sure everything was okay. She said she didn't see the first text and everything was fine. A couple hours later she sent some photos and then also sent a photo of her blinds that my dog chewed while she was left home alone. I spent a lot of time finding a dog sitter who would be home the whole time and was very clear that was what I was looking for because my dog has separation anxiety. I went back to our past texts to make sure I was clear and multiple times in writing Kat said she or her boyfriend would be home all day during the day. I went back and forth with whether to leave this review but the reason I chose Kat is because she had all 5 star reviews but I wish I would've never left my dog with her. The first text is when we were talking about her dog sitting, and the last is about a month later, on the 3rd time she watched my dog and left her home alone. Between then there was never an indication she was leaving my dog alone. The last is a screenshot from the app that you are supposed to recieve updates on. Not a single update all day, only when I texted and asked. When I confronted her about how upset I was she never once apologized for her wrong doing, just tried to back track and turn it on me. Super disappointing and not someone I would trust to watch my dog again. I would never recommend anyone to leave their dogs in her care.

I felt like my dog was being held hostage the whole time he was being boarded. I barley got any…read moreupdates or photos of my handsome boy. To get any update I had to message her myself most days and send compliments to her to get full responses because I had such a bad gut feeling he wasn't safe. My theory was you get more bees with honey to try and get any information from her about my puppy. The photos I did get he was greasy and looked unhappy. Kat also didn't give my pup his medication everyday as I explained to her. I made everything simple for her I wrote down instructions for medication. For feeding him. For his routine. I sent along his health binder. Along with an itemized list of items I was sending with him. She ended up following none of it and didn't return a few of his items. After saying to her multiple times that I am a helicopter mom she still thought she could deceive me in how many pills I sent for medication for my dog. I counted everything I sent with him. Down to how many cups of food I sent which she didn't even feed him threes cups a day three times a day per my instructions. And she even slipped up when telling me when he ate that she fed him twice a day. My dog hasn't been the same since he got home. His innocence is gone. It looks like he's seen something and isn't himself. I should of known not to leave him with her because when I arrived she told me how she sprays the dogs with a water bottle to behave and stories about how dogs in her care have ate blinds before and her card reader. I will pay whatever price to ensure my animals are care for correctly. I have a high standard of their care and with my first meeting of Kat she seemed to hold that standard stating she only keeps 4 dogs at a time to ensure their care up to par. When I dropped my pup off she told me that she keeps 9 dogs at a time now. I found her to be very deceptive in what she promises and actually does. Due to this disaster I will never ever board my dog ever again. Idk what her and her boyfriend did to him but he's not my bouncy little boy anymore. I'm so worried due to how he is acting that I feel he needs to go to the vet to ensure he is healthy. At least I had a full work up done with blood work and X-rays before he went to Kat to compare to. If you want a high level of care. For those of you like me expecting a high level of care for your dog while you are away I would not recommend this place. This place is the same as a kennel with less medical experience and you'll have to replace everything that you sent with your pup. This is my first experience with a dog boarder but I have an in home cat sitter and she sends me about four paragraphs of information about my cats and about 30 photos per hour she is with them. To get one or two photos and a sentence or nothing per day when you have my pup for 24 hours for 6 days was just mind blowing to me. Don't promise to send updates and not. Actually send the updates. Also I had an AirTag on my pup she claims she took him out for walks but I checked his AirTag every 30 minute to an hour with alerts on if he left her property and didn't get any alerts. Since I wasn't there I can't truly confirm or deny if she took him for walks or to the park like she said she would but by the way he acted when he finally got outside. It seemed he was trapped inside for a while.

The first time we met, she sat on the floor, and my pets (a cat and a dog) flocked to her like Snow White...they just love her. She is easy to work with, loves animals, and is wonderful with them. She does both pet sitting as well as dog walking - and she's as great with my old cat as my puppy. The thing that impressed me most was her approach to my puppy, Maggie, who has cancer. Sometimes she has a bad odor by her cancer area, or has bad days, but Courtney is wonderful with her...and so positive. They have fun, go for walks, etc. It's really great to see. Anyway, if you need a pet sitter or dog walking in Lancaster or Lititz, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ducey Dog Walking. She's tech savvy (will text or email as well: duceysdogs@gmail.com) so communication is awesome. Overall, Courtney is great....and for what it's worth, my pets *still* flock to her when they see her. She clearly adores them, and they adore her right back.

I come home and my dogs are stress-free and happy -- they don't even punish me for being gone! Additionally, Courtney is very professional. She is fantastic with communication -- clear, concise, professional, and completely on top of things. My one dog had a veterinary emergency when Courtney was dogsitting, and she let me know about it right away and had the dog at the vet that same day. My other dog has chronic health issues that require daily management, and Courtney handles this with ease. She contacts me with updates while I am away, so I can be assured that the dogs are doing well. I really recommend her to anyone who loves their pets and wants to know they are well cared for while you are away.
