Goal buy all the Australian things making them cheaper with my USD money. Of course I had to stop and get food first. I've been staying near the market for 3 weeks and knew i had to come here. First, service was amazing. The nicest mxn found me a seat in the middle of the super busy restaurant. Then, 4 minutes later a young Womxn took my order. About 10 min later, this amazing food showed up. I ordered the fired eggs on the side to go with my hotcakes. This was the prefect balance of sweet and savory. I was a little nervous i would still be hungry because the hotcakes looked tiny. I was not disappointed at all. After a yummy oat milk coffee, i left feeling cozy, warm, and full. I sat outside which had some foot traffic but everyone was respectful and the wall heaters helped with the cool wet weather. Long story short, I would totally come back and try something new. The market vibes make it a wonderful weekend adventure and if you're looking for a sit down moment to appreciate Melbourne. Stop here.

We gave the local seagulls our chips. Now I have to put up with the lunch friend being cruel to me as I found the place. I do not recommend this place.

And happily this cute little place is a meeting of young and old, complete with good grub. You'll find the seasoned old boys manning the fryer and grill, while the young buck lands the customer orders. It's just opened but Old Salt is already a refuge for Port Melbourne locals wanting to avoid the seaside-skyscraper-bachelor-pad crowd of footballers, tandoori coloured plastic WAGs, seagulls and suburban tourists shouting at each other over throbbing dance music at the nearby chippies closer to the water. Old Salt's menu is small just like the venue, but it's honest and traditional, like a nostalgic throw-back to old-skool Port Melbourne. The servings are decent sizes - the minimum order of chips is big enough to keep a bunch of nippers happy after school. And you know what? I reckon these chips are too good to share with seagulls. Did I say cute? Yeah, the refit is kinda special. Love the old bottle crates housing condiments and the builder-chic light fittings. Take a seat under a tree on the pavement or at the counter while waiting for your order in peace. I wonder, should I be telling you this? Or perhaps I should really keep it as my own little secret? OK. Keep it under your hat, I don't want to trip over any chip-crazy birds on my way in.

Service was great and the minute we sat down, the food just started coming out. Preplanned by our host but a great way to relax and try everything without having to decide. The mood up here is great, the lighting is dim, the lounges are stylish and the wait staff a very attentive and their selection of cocktails are extensive. Downstairs there is another bar and outdoor area which is locate at the front of the Hotel, it almost spills out onto the street on a summers evening. You can be sure the Albert Park will be bustling on a Friday night for after work drinks and similarly on Saturdays when many functions are held upstairs, especially around Christmas time and the New Year. I have also had the pleasure of eating at their Oyster Bar and Grill that is priced well delivering and supporting the best and freshest local seafood. Their flavours and marinades are right on the money and you can tell they take pride in what they serve and how they serve it. Also, ring in the weekend with $1 oysters from 6pm to 7pm every Friday night. This Friday, they're freshly-shucked from Coffin Bay.
