We have been getting our tax services from Fox for over fifteen years and are DONE with this business. The service were once fabulous and have immensely declined. For the past two years, our tax person is never available outside of tax season, which leaves others not familiar with our tax account to respond. And the responses have been short, rude, and non-effective. As a direct non-response from my tax person and no one at Fax Tax willing to genuinely assist, I was fined fees this year because of the lack of willingness to assist and not providing with proper information!! We have a history of stellar tax payments. We will be finding a new tax service. read more

Along with Sarah J, this review does not cover the services of Fax Tax. The concept is fabulous though. They help artists, "make a business out of their art." If I were an artist, this is the first place I'd go--especially around tax time. What I love about Fox tax is that they truly live what they do. Not only do they help artists on the business logistical side, but also in promotion as the space also functions as a gallery. Stop by an opening and you will be pleasantly surprised by the high quality artist on display. More than likely beating will be spinning and drinks will be available for a nominal donation. When I was there on Friday, there were lots of new parents as well, which was nice to see. Thankfully they left the strollers at home and just had the kids in the baby carriers. Considering the artist on spotlight was Ink, who is famous for crazy murals around town, I'm sure the kids got an eyeful! read more

Fox Tax helped me get $8 back in federal taxes this year. Wish I was understating that for the sake of the story, but I am not. The thing is though, I'm so happy I even got ANY money back. This was my first year not freelancing, which means the first year I didn't have to pay thousands of dollars in one lump sum. Could it be that I'm on my way to a real life-changing refund next year? 2011 is totally my year. Anyway, I'm now in my third year as a happy customer of Fox Tax. Talk about out-of-the-box business plan meeting out-of-this-world aesthetics. I love the artwork by local artists. I love the events and gallery openings (in the off-season). I love the tax services for both self-employed and non-self employeed peeps. I just love that this place exists so that I don't have to use TurboTax or go to H&R Block. Susan took care of my taxes this year and it was a great experience. For someone who doesn't own a home or have dependents (that I know of), I had a veeerrrry complicated return and I was so grateful to have her walk me through the whole thing. I had obviously spent a few hours getting all my ducks in a row before my appointment (they send you a helpful checklist). Once there, I think we were able to knock it out within an hour. I called and basically got a flat out "no" and a "no" to my inquiry - not very helpful. I'm a little stunned because I've heard such great things. I respect that it's tax season, and capacity is an issue (to be clear, I was calling for a consultation, and offered to pay whatever the rate was; I am not looking for free advice). With that in mind, a business that values customer experience will usually offer the names of trusted colleagues as alternatives, which always leaves a good impression on the customer, even if that business cannot accommodate them at the time. I have always done my own taxes and thought I could do our 1st year of marriage taxes. Figuring if I can read a 706 how hard can it be to do personal taxes. After spending several hours trying to figure out what I was doing wrong, I turned to P and said we need to go and have this done professionally. Now enters Fox Tax ..... um I think I love you!!!! First of all it is in a great area and next to I Like You! (a place to go a spend your return funds). The art gallery in the lobby and throughout the high wall cubicles it great. This is not your stuffy accounting or tax firm. Everyone was great and friendly. Plus they are extremely knowledgeable. We got to work with Heather who was great and even gave us advice on setting up our LLCs and small tutorial on MN Sales tax. HOW AWESOME! When we got done with the return she handed us it all on a disk with password protection that can be written on again next year. And yes we are coming back next year! read more

This review is only for the gallery part of Fox Tax. I'm not an artist, musician, or small business owner (their taxation specialties) nor do I get tax help anyway, but if I did the Foxes would be the first folks I'd ask. For heaven's sake, their tag line is "Making a business out of your art". I'd be curious to hear from someone who's gotten help from them at tax time. They are surely the hippest tax do-ers I've ever come across. But anyway, they also have an art gallery. In which they throw really awesome opening parties (you can sign up for the mailing list and they'll let you know about gallery events). Everyone knows that art openings are the best place to meet (cute, new, friendly) people. Plus their office is in the unimpeachably charming Felt Factory building in Northeast. And since the Foxes' clientle are already artists and musicians and the like, you can be pretty sure that their parties are going to be among the best in town. read more

It's an art gallery AND a tax accounting office. Whoa. Cool. Fox Tax is the creation of brother-sister business combo Mark and Alyssa Fox. They were looking for a way to highlight their skills/career as accountants while still staying true to their love of art. Thus began the business that is Fox Tax. Open all day long, and many nights and weekends, Fox Tax shows work by local artists of acclaim and local artists new to the scene. Curated by Mplsart.com's Emma Berg, the current show is called Art Form 1040 - a clever play on the tax angle, as well as a framework for the artists to work within. In this show, each of the artists created a 10-piece series of prints that will be sold for $40 a piece (10 for $40, 1040...get it?). Anyways, the artwork at Fox Tax is top notch, and the gallery is part of a small community of commercial galleries in the Twin Cities - something we NEED MORE OF. Fox Tax creates a unique environment to show art, but also creates a unique marketplace for artists to sell their work - something the Twin Cities doesn't have enough of. This place is awesome. When you walk in they greet you at the front desk and have a cozy sitting space while you wait for your appointment. They also have artwork in the room that rotates every few months or so. Fox tax is great if you're a freelancer, contractor or part owner of a business. I am technically neither but you never know what the future holds so I signed up on the waiting list and got a spot! The accountants are knowledgeable and get through your information in a timely fashion. It's a great atmosphere to have your taxes done and the sooner you sign up on the waiting list the better. read more

We went to Fox as part of a birthday crawl last night. I had never heard of them before, but what a great concept! I have a little crush now. I am not sure that I "got" most of the pieces in the actual exhibit, although I greatly enjoyed the sculpture of the rabbit with the theatre hind-section. I talked about it all night! It is a cute gallery space and I like that they have wine available for a minimal donation. It is a very accessible vibe for us non-scenesters. I will definitely be back to check out future exhibits. read more

I love you, Fox Tax. There's a reason I did not take Tax in law school. Math makes my head spin and crunching numbers ain't my thing. Cue Fox Tax in all its awesomeness. I had a weird return this year where I was both self-employed AND employed by the State. Beth took the time to walk through everything with me. The checklist they send out beforehand is super helpful in getting things together and it's actually good to use throughout the year to keep track of your expenses so you can remember what to deduct come tax time. I've had YELP for 2 years and I have never written a review, but I figured that Fox Tax deserved one. I recently moved to MN from CA and needed to file a simple, individual return. I had gone to H&R Block days before to file, and they wanted to charge me nearly $400. Clearly, I left.. and was led to Fox Tax, thankfully! Love, love, love Fox Tax! Alyssa has been doing my taxes (and saving my heinie!) for years! She's a geek for numbers and taxes, and a sweetheart to boot. She helped me when I was a starving artist actor/babysitter/bartender, when I got married, bought a house and became a landlord and my husband and I still use her from LA (did I mention she juggles our multiple state incomes?!)! We love Fox Tax that much! When I'm in town l love to stop in for a visit in their light and airy and always interesting gallery. Even the bathroom has fun art! At the end of the day Alyssa and Mark, and quite honestly, their whole crew are people who love what they do. They act like people (not automatons), they treat me like a person, they treat each other well (lots of smiles, good humor and actual respectful living wages!) and they love making their community a fun and more fulfilling place. Kudos to Mark and the whole Fox Tax team! We started using Fox Tax several years ago after my husband began freelancing and I can safely say I will never use Turbo Tax again!
