For the particular brand of tequila I was in for, however, the store only carried the Blanco (silver) one so no Reposado and/or Anejo. I, however, was able to walk away with its tequila-based coffee liqueur (Cantera Negra Cafe) which I had always wanted to try. The employees (pretty much all of them) were very professional and courteous for my shopping needs. The store is a good size. Very organized where things aren't cramped into the space. Very clean indeed. On Thursday and Saturday, they do tastings (4-7pm on Thursdays and 3-6pm on Saturdays); the designated tasting area is on the north end of the shop. You can park in the Whole Foods garage (there is a door to it inside the shop; this is convenient especially when the weather is bad with rain or show.) I don't come to this part of town very often but it's nice to know that a good liquor store with high-end feel exists right in the heart of Belmar shopping area.

Last night I stopped in hoping for this years Beaujolais Nouveau, which they had. I grabbed 3 bottles and was shocked when he rang up the bill. They were $18.99/bottle. I just 3 bottles last time and they were $9.99. Prices are way out of control at this store. Then, I got the receipt which normally I don't get, but I was offended by the price. I just realized, they are also charging a 3% processing fee on top of their already outrageous prices. Sorry, but you have lost a customer who has been going to this store since 2004.

Situated at the corner of Oak and Colfax across from the Shell station, you'd probably think that it's just another one of the many average liquor stores that dot the local landscape, but you'd be wrong. From the moment you walk in, you'll see that the place seems almost bigger on the inside than you'd expect. Aisles of wine, an entire wall of beer coolers, shelves of hard liquor and a generous selection of styles in every type of libation they offer set them apart from other small- to mid-size liquor stores. Sure, they're not Argonaut, Bubbles or Applejack, but you don't need to dial a different area code to reach the back of the store so that's a nice trade-off. They really have a stellar selection tucked away in the corners, as well. Any time I'm looking for some beer for a party, some ingredients for mixers or even just a nice bottle of Irish whiskey for a gift, I've never been left wanting at Philnor. They also have good sales. In 2011 a local person tipped us off about this store, and we've been going their ever since----bypassing many closer stores. We've never been disappointed.
