I am so happy I took my boots here! I had two boots, each with a single shoe with a broken zipper. I brought them in and left them at the shop. They took down my phone number and gave me a ticket car with the phone number shop info on it. My tall boots were so beat up and had a strange white festival mud mold on them that they said the wait might be a bit longer. I dropped them off in earlier February. They called me a little less than three weeks later and left a message on my phone they were ready. Make sure you pick up within 30 days of drop off or they aren't responsible for your shoes at that point. I picked up my boots and paid $35 in total for the two zipper repairs, and they cleaned them complimentary. How great of a value for shoes I care about. Don't throw your shoes out, extend their life and bring them here! read more

My limited-edition knee-high leather Sorel boots were on life support. Ragnar, my months old German Shepherd puppy, had discovered the joys of sinking his razor-sharp baby teeth into the entire area between where the iconic Sorel wedged heel meets the main part of the boot. Being that these shoes are the most expensive piece of clothing that I own (and that I wear them nearly every day in the fall AND winter), I was desperate to have them fixed. They winced. They told me it might be expensive. They told me it wouldn't be the same. They told me it might be time consuming..... but they were up for the challenge. It did take months, but to my delight, I received the phone call. My boots were ready! I was nervous when I went to pick them up bc I didn't know how they'd fare. What the hell happened to this place? I had a pair of well-worn Birkies repaired and they did a bang-up job and didn't charge me a fortune like another place where I took a pair for half soles and new cork. So, I took a backpack/purse there for a re-dye/touch-up. I was told it would be ready the next Friday. Went to pick it up, but it was not ready. I could hear discussion in the back room which amounted to one employee blaming the other for not doing it. OK. Anyone can screw-up. So, I take another pair of Birkies there for repair. Closed. Writing my first ever Yelp review for this place. I had a pair of Doc Marten's I've been wearing almost every day for going on 4 years now, and the hard plastic sole on them had been worn down to a flat surface which made them useless on ice (or anything except dry weather, really). I've grown pretty attached to these things and I didn't want to have to retire a really well broken in pair with a lot of good memories associated with them. I had never had any boots repaired before so I went to google, saw Squirrel Hill Shoe Repair pop up, and I figured I'd give them a shot. I was kindly told "we don't do Doc Martens" on account that the sole doesn't behave well with glue. Fair enough, but I figured I'd give another shop a call. I called Fox Chapel Shoe Service and the owner(?) described to me that the sole's are hard to work with but if you put in the effort they can be repaired. The price for the repair was, in my opinion, very fair (much much cheaper than the cost of a new pair) and the repair only took them about 3 days to complete. When I got them back they looked fantastic. The soles had been repaired/replaced with a very nice quality black glue on sole, and even the minor detail I had mentioned of the insoles being loose had been fixed too. The repair itself looked seamless with no excess glue and no edges or lopsidedness in the tread. Not only that but they cleaned the boots and treated the leather before returning them to me as well. I've already recommended their shop to friends of mine and will be returning for any boot/leather repair I need in the future. read more

My shoes are great, I brought in platform shoes with a wood sole and they sanded them smooth AND sealed the wood AND added a strap and the work looks flawless. I brought a backpack here to have the zipper fixed and it was due to be finished the following week on a Friday. I get a call that it will be fixed by the following Tuesday. Then I hear nothing on Tuesday and call and they say pick it up the following day. I go in on Wednesday and asked if they provide a discount for items that are finished later than when told. The woman gave slight attitude and stated she told me whenever and didnt I've me a second date when that is inaccurate. If they don't give a discount due to products being completed way after they stated okay but to lie and switch around facts to save face instead of taking accountability, apologizing and moving forward with the transaction is not respectable. I won't be going back ever. And my zipper is stiff and not a good one. read more

This has been a reputable shoe repair shop for many years, under the past long-time proprietors, and now, with the new folks who've taken it over. I have always been happy with the work that is done. I have ONE big question.....WHY DO YOU (the owners) NOT WEAR FACEMASKS WHEN GREETING CUSTOMERS???Your shop is TINY, with no air-flow. I have been in your shop 5 times in the past month. (drop-off, pick-up, drop-off, pick up, question)....and not once have you (they) been wearing a facemask. Nor is there a sign (as there is on, basically, EVERY BUSINESS IN ALLEGHENY COUNTY), requiring customers to enter wearing a facemask. This is irresponsible, inexplicable, and...just plain inconsiderate. You DO understand the theory behind facemask-wearing?It is FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS. You wear a mask for my well-being. I wear mine for yours. None of us know if we are an asymptomatic carrier of the virus....Fully HALF of the transmissions of the virus come from asymptomatic carriers...WEAR YOUR MASK, or POST A SIGN ON YOUR DOOR: "We do not comply with Mask Wearing rules, and You Do Not Need to Either." But, why not just DO THE RIGHT THING? Put a mask on for the few minutes during which you are interacting with a customer.... I started to go here after the retirement of the guy who fixed shoes for me & my family for over 40 years. I asked him for a suggestion who to use & he told me about this shop run by his nephew. I figured he had a good teacher for all or part of his training, so I had a good vibe. Not surprisingly, I've had no regrets with the two repairs I've had on walking shoes that I put a lot of miles on. I had the heel area on the bottom replaced on these + a repair to the heel area inside the lining that tore-out. Both pairs were done well & by the time promised. The price seems about par for the course for such a repair. Additionally, the shoes are cleaned-up along with the requested repair. The shop is located just off Rt 28 at the WaterWorks exit in Aspinwall/Fox Chapel. There's plenty of free parking in front of the shop. Payment in advance is required. read more

This place is awesome! Why you ask? Well, let me tell ya. The first time I came to this place was to find a decent shoe shine for my husbands salted out shoes. Anyway, I chose this place due to the high reviews and close proximity to where I was. Now this place has no frills but it has the delicious smell of leather all over the place ans a couple of chairs and table if you want to wait for your shoes. I actually dropped off two pairs of men's shoes and they were ready within 30 min and they honestly looked like new. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and I found the need to see if one of my leather boots could be salvaged as the heel was basically down to a nub. Well I take my little boots and they tell me that not only can they replace the heel they can give them a nice shine. All this work was to take about a week which I was more than happy to wait as these were expensive boots and if I can keep from trashing these I will. When I come back to pick up my shoes, the girl working the front desk grabs my shoes, which do not look like the same pair. I honestly think that they look brand new. The heels are replaced and my black leather boots are clean and shiny like the first time I tried them out in the store. I am so glad that these boots were fixed and I think that I saved myself some cash by having these repaired. I honestly didn't know that getting your shoes repaired could almost turn back the clock!. I will say that I plan on returning not only to have any shoes shined but to have any sort of leather goods repaired (they fix fancy purses and belts too!) read more

They were very good about quoting price upfront, and completed repairs quickly. The price for sole repairs was comparable to another shop I had quoted from. The boots came out looking great and ready for more years of use. The bag repairs were done well. Good Saturday hours made it easy for me to get there to pick up and drop off my goods for repair, something that can be challenging at other shops. They were great to work with. Only shoe service I use - high quality at a fair price and delivered within the time frame promised. I wear shoes for a long time, to the point where most people would toss them. Only once did I hear the owner say he would not be able to repair the shoes at a price that would make sense. Other times they have had to be creative and customize the repair in a way other shoe repair shops would not - or just don't have the expertise. This place is great. I wear heels and typically have to have the heel cap replaced. I think they do a wonderful job and it's speedy! Recently I took a leather purse in to have it cleaned and freshened up. It came back looking good as new. I have seen many other designer bags in there like LV, YSL, etc. so I think he can handle anything you have. I took a suede jacket in that took some abuse this winter and picked it up today and was very impressed! Just an FYI, its prepay! It is very difficult to find shoe repair services ,it is a dying art! I came across Fox Chapel Shoe Repair out of an emergency situation. I got my heels caught in a grate - ugh! Both my heels came off and left some scrapes! Brand new pair of shoes! I needed them fixed NOW! So I went in and was very warmly greeted. I explained my crisis and expected an anser of "It will take a day or so." Instead, the woman checked with her husband, he came out and joked about my situation. She told me to sit down and came over, took off my shoes so I did not have to walk on dirty carpeting, and said to relax - they would be repaired soon. I sat there and looked around. With in 15 minutes my shoes were repaired! Not only were they repaired, he put on better heels and corrected the scratches! It was an extremely professional yet warm down to earth experience. They are genuine, honest, courteous and professional. It is like being a part of their family to the point that I will joke with them every time! I will continue to go there until the day they retire- which better not be soon! My wife has been taking all kinds of shoes and boots here to be cleaned for years. She's always been very happy. I recently dropped off a pair of my own boots to be repaired. It was a pair I'd had for over 10 years. My favorites. The leather had completely torn out of the soles, the soles themselves were full of holes, cracked and falling apart, and the heels were worn down to almost nothing. Honestly, I would have had no problem if the folks at Fox Chapel Shoe Service would have said, "Sorry, we can't save these. They're beyond repair." But they inspected them, and said they'd be ready in a week. A week and one day later (who cares if they're a day behind if they're doing quality work, right?) my wife picked them up. When she brought them home, I was shocked. They looked like brand new boots. Re-soled in beautiful leather soles, perfect hard rubber heels, new insoles, and they were cleaned and polished up, too! And, I do believe I smell some kind of waterproofer or other conditioner on them! My wife tells me the man at Fox Chapel Shoe Service apologized for this shoe repair being so expensive. He must be crazy! IT ONLY COST $65! I would have paid him $165! I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone. They're the masters, as far as I'm concerned. read more
