California Cali Tri-Tip Sandwich
LaDonna A.

Oh my goodness! I could not have been more disappointed in the California Tri-Tip Sandwich. I do want to say that the meat smelled so good & I think it had a good flavor. But honestly it was sliced so thinly that it was hard to tell. 1) They sliced the tri-tip more like a roast beef. Oh my gosh! SOO disappointing! I was expecting those nice thick pieces of Tri-tip in my sandwich. 2) They slopped mayonnaise all over the bread! :( 3) Also added bacon, lettuce, & tomato You can call a Tri-tip sandwich anything you want to call it, but that doesn't mean you should add all of the things...Tri-tip is just one of those classics you really shouldn't mess with like that. It was just such a huge disappointment. It's really a shame because their meat has the potential to make a great sandwich. But not slicing the meat so thinly you can barely know it's there, and definitely not with all that other stuff that does *not* belong on/with Tri-tip.

Came back here again and we all felt hugely underwhelmed. To be fair, all the sides were amazing and the service was great. The sauces were good, though there was little distinction between the three. The meats however... The ribs were dry and had little smoke flavor. The chicken was so dry that the rest of my family wouldn't eat any. The tritip was cut oddly and dry. The pulled pork was grainy and dry. When I go for bbq, I go for the meats, and the meats let us down.

Gorgeous views & looks like a nice place to play video poker, have drinks & try the BBQ. I ordered the Smoked Sausage Breakfast Burrito since they serve breakfast from 8:30-2p. It was a bit dry, sausage was a lil saltier for me, my bf said it was too spicy, chips were totally bland & the pico was awful. All three BBQ sauces tasted the same to me, Vinegar, Mild & Hot. The eggs & hash browns in the Burrito were the best part. The bartender lady that works on Tues. 5/ 5 at 10:30a did a great job by herself! 5 stars for her.

Smokehouse Cheesesteak

Our group of 5 stopped in for lunch on a Monday afternoon after our rental host recommended it, and it was super close to the house. There was only one other group there when we arrived so we asked to sit at a round table and got some pushback that we'd "have to move if a group of 6 came in," which felt a little unnecessary given how empty it was. I had the Smokehouse French Dip. The meat itself was good, but unfortunately the bread was pretty burnt, as you can see in the photo. My husband got the Smokehouse Cheesesteak, which is another one of our go-to sandwiches. Overall, it was just okay. Nothing bad enough that we wouldn't come back, especially if we were staying nearby, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Convenient if you're in the area, but probably not a destination lunch spot.

We stopped by Fox & Hound Smokehouse Grill & Bar around 9pm on a Sunday and were honestly so pleasantly surprised. We were greeted right when we walked in and told to grab any table, which immediately set a relaxed, welcoming tone. The vibe is very cozy cabin-style with good music, games on the TVs, and they even had crayons and paper ready for our toddler (huge win). Waters came out right away, complete with a twisty straw for the little one, and oddly enough... really good water? No tap taste at all. Maybe Tahoe water is just superior. We ordered the smokehouse French dip and the Cali tri-tip sandwich, both with fries, and wow. Both sandwiches were genuinely delicious and way better than we expected. We tried all three BBQ sauces and absolutely loved the vinegar-based one... SO good. Great food, family-friendly, and just an all-around solid spot. We definitely want to come back before we leave Tahoe.

Tahoe BBQ Meal for 4-6
Staci D.

Absolutely delicious BBQ, maybe the best we've had, and we've had a lot over the years. This was an early dinner with friends and we were hungry. There were four of us. Couldn't decide what to get on the menu then noticed the combo meal that serves 4-6. Sorry I can't remember the exact name! It's the first item on the top left under BBQ. WOW. Our server, Heather, quickly brought out a monstrous tray of amazing food! You can see in the photo that everything, and I mean everything, was fabulous. We ate what we could and all took home leftovers, which was a huge thrill since it was so good! There were games on the tvs but we could still have a great conversation. At least three people came to our table and asked if they could take a photo of our meal. It was that stunning. The service was great and we really had a special evening with old friends.

Pulled chicken sandwich with coleslaw and a side salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing on the side.

After a day of skiing at Heavenly mountain I stopped in for a drink and a dinner. I was met at the front door and offered my choice of seats. I picked the bar seating for convenience. They have gambling machines at each bar spot, making eating a little tricky. But they have custom platers that fit over the machine so your plates aren't awkward. I got an old fashioned that was perfect. I also ordered a pulled chicken sandwich with a simple side salad with balsamic vinaigrette. The sandwich was tasty, albeit a little messy to eat. Think a tasty chicken sloppy Joe. The salad was simple, but I didn't feel like french fries. So it was the right choice at the time. I'm not a big fan of cheese on a salad. But if I ever ordered it again, I would just say no cheese. This place is very convenient for where I was staying. There isn't a lot of parking so if you stop by be prepared for that. Overall, the staff was very attentive, helpful, and friendly. The other folks at the bar were also friendly. It has a good simple, fun toned down sports bar type atmosphere. For where this bar is located, it is one of the best options in the area. Perhaps not a destination bar restaurant. But will definitely do well if you don't want to drive all the way into the south Lake business district.

Must try! 5/5 Our first day in Tahoe we decided to eat someone close to our lodging, the F&H was conveniently close by and that made our choice for us. I'll be honest, I didn't expect much as the location is close to lodging style resorts and was assuming something basic, boy was I wrong! I ordered a smoke house French dip sandwich and my wife ordered a California tri tip sandwich, woah! I scarfed mine so fast my wife didn't have a chance to try haha. The meat was soft, the bread was fluffy, the horseradish was on point and the dip for the sandwich was delicious. My wife let me have a couple bites of her sandwich and it was even better! Crispy toasted bread with garlic butter and cheese, soft tri tip with crispy lettuce and juicy tomatoes, ohh and don't forget about the bacon.. so good 5/5. Both these sandwiches were amazing and I haven't even got to the BBQ sauce, the three options they provide were all great, but our favorite was the green label, tomatoes and vinegar, 5/5. To bad we are not locals or we would be regulars, must try!

Called in a to-go order and ordered The Fox Works large pizza. Also ordered a Pulled pork entree with a bacon Mac and cheese side and a side of Tahoe Baked beans. Food was ready in a fast 15 minutes. Staff was very friendly, the establishment was very clean, and the food was great. Would highly recommend this place!

Cool bar

Cool local bar/restaurant at the top of Kingsbury grade in South Lake Tahoe. We were staying at a resort nearby and came here to order food to go and grabbed a beer while we were waiting. It has a nice local feel and the bartender was friendly and you can tell there were a few regulars hanging out. The menu has a lot of options, I wish I would have tried the BBQ, but we were picking up food for the kids so it was Pizza, Burgers and Wings. Everything was delicious, I would definitely go back for another visit to try the BBQ.

Good energy all around, and perfect ambiance, our server was awesome. He came to check on us multiple times, and left us alone when we were going to town. Ribs melting off the bone, tri tip so soft it makes your mouth water. If you enjoy bbq you will love this place. Open late 12 am since I've been here. We are going to come back soon

Gluten Free 12" Cauliflower Meat Lover Pizza
Cody A.

Late lunch on Wednesday. Looking for a restaurant with gluten free options between Genoa Lakes and South Lake Tahoe. The bartender was managing the entire restaurant. There was outdoor seating but it was a little windy and cold. She served us water and provided us with menus. Once we place our food and drink order, our food arrived pretty quickly.

Carolyn G.

The food was bomb! We got the BBQ feast platter! Everything was so good on it we had no complaints. We also ordered the pretzel. A pitcher of orange beer and two orange Jameson. Definitely a place we will come again.

You should probably skip the place with reservations and fancy tablecloths and just come here. Since returning from Rome, this has been the best place in California we have found for fresh, authentic, handmade pasta. The pasta was served al dente. Bolognese sauce was simple and authentic . While I love a good Italian-American gravy, but this is not what you come here for. The pizza was also great, very similar to what we had in Italy, with typical menu such as Diavola, etc. but also varieties like a Roman-inspired Amatriciana pizza.

That included Pizza, Salad, Cookies, and Drinks, in addition to setting up chairs and tables and cleaning up after. It was 3 hour of volunteer time well spent and appreciated. The salad came from Trader Joe's, the cookies from Safeway, and the Pizza from Blue Dog. I think ordered maybe 8 large Pizzas, plus 1 gluten free variety, and another dairy-free. I took a look at the later, and marveled about what that food restriction was missing. Our "regular pizzas" include cheese, veggie, one with tomatoes on it, and a really snarly looking one with mac and cheese (that looked like shrimp on first look). In hindsight, we should have done all cheese, of which was my first choice from Costco, until they announced that their food court was closed for refurbishment. The Blue Dog cheese pizzas went fast, while there was plenty of mac and cheese left over. Various veggies were picked off in between. I enjoyed a few slices myself, as you do need to feed the "hired" help. I rated them pretty good and just fine considering a bunch of hungry kids and their parents. We were lucky to have the pizzas warm and ready at the start of the event, with a warming oven as backup. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, with no complaints that I could here. So I'll call this one a success, and with a shout out to Blue Dog Pizza.

An Unwelcoming and Disturbing Experience…read more I believe I experienced racial discrimination at Lake Tahoe Ale Worx on October 23, while celebrating the night before my friend's wedding. My friends were already inside when my partner and I came across the bar playing music and saw people dancing. We decided to stop by and join them. When I approached security, I handed over my ID and made a lighthearted joke about looking older than the security guard, which he laughed at. I was allowed inside without any issues. However, while security was checking my partner's ID immediately afterward, his demeanor suddenly changed. He told my partner to get me out of the bar or he was going to physically touch me and kick me out. I was already inside with my group, dancing and enjoying the evening, and had not had any other interactions with security or staff that would explain this sudden hostility. I was not intoxicated or causing a disturbance, so I was shocked and confused by the way I was treated. There was no clear explanation for the threat, and the interaction left me feeling targeted, unwelcome, and genuinely unsafe. I was the only Black person in the bar, and given the circumstances, I cannot ignore the possibility that race played a role in how I was treated. It was particularly upsetting to feel unwelcome in an establishment that plays music rooted in Black culture while making a Black customer feel as though her presence and business were not wanted. No one should have to worry about being threatened or made to feel unsafe simply for going out to enjoy music with friends. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Lake Tahoe Ale Worx to other people of color. Management should take these concerns seriously and examine how security staff treat patrons. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of race.

Wood booths, red floral wallpaper, old skis, carvings, and the same lodge clutter over the bar. Ordered the garlic chips, a pint of Revision IPA, and a Margherita with pepperoni added. The chips are still an excellent move: cheesy garlic wedges on their signature dough, with ranch. The original crust is the reason to come. It is not a thin chain crust. It is handmade, rolled at the edge, baked so the rim eats more like fresh bread than a cracker. That part is still excellent. The Margherita was great with sliced tomato and basil. We personally love Pepperoni on it too! The young servers were on top of everything and making sure each table and family were well taken care of. This is a great local pizza stop, not a polished tourist room. Four stars because the crust and the old Tahoe feel carry it, and because this style will not be everyone's pizza. That combination sounds simple enough, but holy shit did they nail it. Josue and Rafino -- and Rafino, brother, I hope I didn't butcher your name -- you two absolutely killed this pizza. The undercarriage was damn near perfect. Crisp all the way across with a legit crunch, but still enough dough to give it that perfect chew. Not cracker crust. Not some giant wad of bread. Perfect amount of dough. Then you've got the sausage, creamy ricotta, basil and that hot honey coming together without any one thing taking over the pizza. Just stupidly well balanced. And the ranch?
