I went in just before Christmas to have a look at some watches. It often can feel intimidating walking into this sort of business if you don't already have a relationship with them. I was greeted by Beth and she quickly did away with the intimidation and made me to feel at home. Beth asked what might interest me and offered me a refreshment. Beth proceeded to show me some pre-owned Rolex watches and explained the Rolex Certification program. I was impressed with her explanation and their excellent selection certified watches. We chatted for some time and I became more comfortable with the process. Beth's attention to detail and knowledge of each model of watch was helpful as well. I liked the fact that she wasn't pushing me to do anything and it felt that relationships were important to her. We ran out of time since the store was closing. She was not rushed to see me leave and allowed me a last look. Fast forward to yesterday. I've been browsing on their website and had my eyes on a Submariner reference 5513/0. This particular one had a 1975 year of manufacture which happens to be the same year I came off the assembly line, yesterday was also my birthday. So I sent Beth a text and asked if she was working and if she was available for a visit? Beth replied with "come on in"! I didn't tell her it was my birthday yet she made me feel welcome nonetheless. I said that I had been eyeing this particular watch, she had me sit down, showed me the watch. She went over some of the benefits of the Certified Program and offered to let me wear the watch. It was quite special and so was Beth's hospitality. I said I wanted to purchase the watch and asked how they would like to be paid. Beth made the purchase simple, and pleasant. A nice man came over, congratulated me and sized the watch while I waited; and when Beth learned it was birthday, that is when the champagne started popping and the rest is history! When I came in the staff was extremely welcoming despite knowing they did not have any stock of watches I was looking for. They encouraged me to try on watches and still fill out an interest card, which I did. Now, here we are, one year and five months later, they called me and said they had my watch, an Explorer 40mm. I'm a Fourtane customer at their San Diego Rolex Boutique, so thought I'd check out the Carmel store as I had a few hours in the area. The atmosphere is wonderful, of course, being in Carmel. Everyone in the store was warm and inviting. They have Rolex and Patek on the "new watch" side, but a short walk takes you to their certified preowned side. My experience was THE BEST I have ever experienced at a Rolex AD in my life. I put that down to Melina the sales associate helping me. She was incredibly knowledgeable, patient and kind. She got me water and later a nice espresso. Nothing was a problem. When I tried on watches, she asked if I wanted to see how they looked in the sun, allowing me to view them outside. Fourtane has an incredible collection of vintage and Neo-vintage Rolex watches that interested me. It was really fun trying them on and taking pictures. Melina asked me if I'd like to share my desired references, which was nice, and she listened and wrote them down. I didn't buy anything, but I definitely would and from her if possible. She was incredible. I told her that visit was my best watch shopping experience ever. What a professional! I wish more Rolex sales associates took her approach. It was more than that though. Melina allowed me to try on their new Patek Philippe Cubitus and I forgot I was still wearing it after chatting for 5 minutes. Such a great time I had there at Fourtane in Carmel ...
