Coffees and cheesecake
laura W.

Coffee: 5 stars- delicious and strong cappuccino and americano Sweets: 3 stars- we had the strawberry cheesecake. The crust was not crisp which was a disappointment. You really need that crisp to diversify the textures. Service was pretty good. Fun to people watch.

Coffee

After seeing all the good reviews and the very cute storefront, I decided to check out this shop. I splurge on my diet on vacation and go for all the pastries. The coffee was good, but the pastries were a let down. I got a slice of the chocolate cake, the almond croissant, and the plain croissant. Chocolate Cake (2/5) - Cake was very dense and fudge brownie like, it was sweet but not overly. However, it didn't have much depth of chocolatey flavor. It tasted like fat and chocolate. Almond Croissant (2/5) - Texture wise it was all wrong and more akin to a danish. The croissant was deflated and soggy and lacked any semblance of crisp. Taste was pretty good, filled with almond paste and caked on, grainy, sweet but not too sweet. Croissant (3/5) - Passable, more hold and texture. Butter, bland, as good as a Costco croissant.

This is my go-to place first thing in the morning for freshly baked bread and a cup of strong cortado. I always arrive 15 minutes to opening time but the bakers without fail let me in and have my indulgence.

Going into the oven!

I made a stop here while on a walk in the area. It is tiny but the pastries pack a big punch. Yum!

You can order sandwiches from the place next door. They have table service and plenty of seating which is quiet and easy to talk

They had a pretty good crowd, that's when I noticed it was a churro shop and it was called El Moro. During my weeklong trip to Mexico City I ended up visiting this shop multiple times during all different times of the day and evening. This business I found out later has multiple locations and is one of the most famous churro shops in all of Mexico City. I really enjoyed them so much-their churros are made fresh all day I liked that this location was super clean and had plenty of tables to sit to enjoy your freshly made churros and coffee drinks. Speaking of coffee drinks, they have excellent coffee as many a mornings on this trip started with coffee from El Moro. Their churros are very inexpensive as they run about 16 pesos($0.95 USD) each.So we always grabbed a few every visit. The churros had a really good size to them and were just doused in cinnamon and sugar-they tasted perfect both sweetness level and texture-wise. I generally always ordered Americanos which ran 55 pesos($3.25 USD) Not the best value in the world but good enough/they matched up well with the fresh churros. Overall I would highly recommend stopping by El Moro if you run across one of them on your travels to Mexico City-I really enjoyed them and look forward to visiting them again on future visits to Mexico City.
