During our recent trip to Mexico City, we finally explored the Condesa neighborhood and stopped at Ficelle, a bakery I had seen recommended on TikTok. The pastries and service were delicious. While they do not have indoor seating, it was very pleasant to sit outside on the sidewalk and people-watch. We tried three different pastries: a plantain pudding pastry, a fruity meringue pastry, and a very unique peanut butter and chapulines cruffin. All were excellent. My only piece of constructive feedback is regarding the payment process. We had to pay for the pastries separately from the coffee, which made the experience less smooth. It would be much more convenient if everything could be paid for on a single check. Overall, it was a wonderful spot! read more

My friends and I visited Ficelle several mornings for breakfast and pastries, and each time was a delight. The service was attentive and friendly--occasionally a little slow, but that's part of the relaxed rhythm of being in Mexico. The outdoor seating is charming, surrounded by greenery and decorated with natural plants, which creates such a pleasant atmosphere to start the day. I especially enjoyed the Betty juice made with beets--it was fresh, vibrant, and absolutely delicious. The pastry selection feels endless, unlike anything I've experienced elsewhere in Mexico. During our visit, they were offering pan de muerto for Día de los Muertos, with a creative twist: a rich chocolate filling. It was outstanding! This cafe is true to itself the real deal. What made the cafe super interesting to me was the fact that they sell great pastries, various forms of cafes, and an equally diverse selection of wine. This block was already teaming with people dining on the sidewalk, and this cafe took it a step further with real awnings and plenty of light. The only things missing were the outdoor heat lamps. Obviously they don't use those in this part of the world, although it was a little nippy when I walked over here. I came on a complete whim, and I ordered a pastry with fruit and a cold Topo Chiko agua in the plastic bottle. I could tell the pastry had not been sitting on the counter all day, because it was still soft. I liked this cafe as well as this trendy little neighborhood. read more

The pastry scene in CDMX need not apologize to anyone - some of the best and most innovative patisserie I've tasted in years was at the various bakeries we sampled in Roma Norte and Condesa over the past few days, and Ficelle was probably the best among them. Wow! Danishes are excellent and well-filled. There's a little of everything here. There are full cakes available, there's wine to buy, there are pastries, baguettes, muffins, small pastries, and larger pastries as well. Some things, I've never seen before, like the crunchy guava lemon tart. I ordered it to go, so I'll update once it's tried. Twice in two days. You'll look in this vitrine and want every last thing in it. Absolutely gorgeous pastries. Very friendly staff who indulged me in my attempts to speak Spanish. And the food...well, I wouldn't have gone twice in two days if it wasn't incredible. Peach tart one day, cherry tart the next. Textured just as hard as I would like them to be. Not overly sweet. Last week we were in the wonderful area of Condesa, and looking for a cash exchange house, when we stumbled upon this gem. I marveled at the wonderful display of goodies they had and couldn't wait to get in and try one. It was a side trip from our mission, but well worth stopping by and tasting their pastries. My husband had a fig pastry and I had a wonderful apple Danish (image provided). These pastries are the fluffy, flaky kind, and am curious for the secret recipe. I wanted to return, naively believing there is all sorts of time. Mexico City has an even shorter minute than a New York minute. Asides the wonderful pastries, the girls behind the counter were very informed and friendly. I have made a future bookmark to return. read more

Ficelle was the first cafe I visited and spent time in during my first visit to Ciudad Mexico. As a matter of fact, I had breakfast there every day during my week-long visit. Ficelle is quite cute. It was recommended to me by a friend so I went out of my way to come here, and I will say the selection of pastries was smaller than some of the other pastelerías I had been to. That said, I got a couple individual petite fours here (appreciate they sell them separately so you don't have to buy a bunch - I just bought 2) and they were lovely! One was passion fruit and the other fig. The workers were really sweet and spoke English fairly well so they were able to give me some recommendations. The area is cute and fairly safe, near several parks (so also nice to people watch in the area). Overall I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again but i was glad to visit it the once! read more

A French Bakery in the middle of Condesa? Let's try this! Walking in... its average size with two huge pastry cases and a view of chefs at work in back. They have probably 100 different items so be patient with the people & staff! Everything is amazing I thought... with the Vanilla Eclair & Flan being a stand out. Also the Lemon Tart is amazing! I had the pleasure of visiting Ficelle several times over the course of a month-long stay, and was mostly impressed with their offerings. I tried a variety of desserts, breads, and quiches, and found them all to be quite tasty. The cashiers were always polite and helpful, and made the ordering process a breeze. Admittedly, the prices were a little high, but still very reasonable for the neighborhood. The croissants were excellent, with just the right amount of buttery goodness. Other standouts were the bollo, pain au chocolat, boule, chouqettes, macarons. I really wanted to love the flan since it felt like such a treat to order a big slice, but I didn't; it was good, but missing that little extra that could have made it stand out. Overall, Ficelle is a great bakery with a lot to offer. While there were a few items that didn't quite hit the mark for me, I was mostly pleased with everything I tried and will go again next time I visit. read more

These were the best pastries we had in Mexico City. We love this place so much that we went twice during our three day stay in Mexico City. All the pastries we had were absolutely delicious. We had a chocolate almond croissant, sticky bun, and a braided puff pastry with chocolate. We also enjoyed a coffee at the coffee shop right next door while we ate our pastries. Yummy and well-priced desserts! We stayed close by so stopped by often to get croissants and mini tarts. They have a bunch of tarts with different fruits on top - the world is your oyster! Nice location, terrible service. Mediocre food. My wife ordered an egg croissant sandwich. She lifted the upper crust and the egg whites poured out onto her plate. I ordered a salmon bagel and asked for the bagel to be toasted dark. Bagel arrived completely untoasted. They just cut the cold bagel in half, spread the cream cheese as lightly as one would spread butter. Prices are what we'd pay back in the States. BTW, we speak enough Spanish to get by. When you're carving for something sweet, this is a solid choice, the variety of desserts and artisanal bread it's honestly great, even if among them there's some that are better than others. A big plus is that you can also order food or drinks from the bistro next door. If they have: Flan, Banana bread or Canele, buy as many as you can, you don't want to regret it later read more

Charming bakery, unfortunate experience! Ficelle is a charming bakery with a beautiful selection of pastries. My boyfriend and I visited a couple of days ago, and we really wanted to love it. We ordered the meat pie (de res) and a of couple pastries, which we were able to enjoy at the cafe next door. The chocolate croissant was absolutely amazing. We loved it so much that we got a slice of quiche and chicken pot hand pie to go. When we got back to our apartment, we heated the pot pie only to find mold all over the inside! Not a little, but a lot. Improperly stored chicken could have easily given us salmonella. I understand people make mistakes, but this one was very big. I really hope Ficelle reads this review and starts better storage practices. For now I would stick to the croissants. read more

We stopped here on our last morning in Mexico City, and I am so sad we did not discover it earlier. We had pan de chocolate, tarte manzana, a vanilla eclair, and little puffs called choquettes.
