We discussed the problem and Brett got right to work. Brett helped me with the ceiling tiles in the basement that had been damaged when the shower overflowed onto the floor and leaked down into the basement. Then he went to the shower and power rodded the drain and discovered a giant wad of hair that had been obstructing the drain. He made sure that the drain was free flowing and then cleaned everything up so it was all neat and tidy. Brett was very knowledgeable and explained everything in a thorough manner. I would happily recommend Brett and Black-Haak Heating and Plumbing for any work of that nature that you need to have done. Everyone at Black-Haak is friendly, professional and they get the job done in a timely and efficient manner.

Now I am unable to install my new cabinetry. When I asked Eric at Black-HAAK to come out and fix it, he initially quoted me at $250 to come fix their mistake. When I asked about this, he had to do an "investigation", then came back to me and said he would only charge me $100. To fix their mistake! The crazy thing is, I was about to move forward with $2000+ of work with them. Because of this, I very reasonably asked if they could waive the fee since it was their mistake they were fixing. They then began to ignore me! Completely unprofessional company that does not stand by the quality of their work.

They are always quick to respond and they really know their stuff. Always polite, professional and the amount charged is reasonable. Last winter our home's furance wasn't keeping the house warm. Only 60 degrees and it was chilly inside. I called and the owner "Don" told me they were buried with calls and couldn't get to me for a few days. I called another company that runs lots of advertising "Big Name" and what a mistake that was. They came out repaired something and charged me over $400. The next day the furnance started acting up again. I called them back and they decided it had an expensive part that needed to be ordered +$1200. I decided to call "Don" at Abby's back and told him what was going on. Here it was Christmas Eve and he dropped everything and came to our rescue. He too said the part the other guys mentioned needed to be replaced. He just happened to have one in his truck. Plus he told us it was under warranty and sent it in for us. End of the story he had it fixed and running quickly and only charged us $200. Called the other "Big Name" guys asking to be reimbursed the $400 that didn't fix my problem. They were not willing to do that. Ugh Don't hesitate to call them. You won't be dissapointed.

With a reasonable cost, I had him put in the primary and back-up pumps. After that, I had the confidence to finish my basement as a recreation room. After 8 years, my primary pump died. (This was the time in spring of 2026 when everywhere there was flooding in Wisconsin.) Thank goodness I had put in that hydro-powered back-up. . If I hadn't had the back-up, my entire basement would have been ruined! Even though I could have gone days with out adding a new primary pump, Don was there the next day! Now we are discussing replacing a toilet upstairs and installing a new bathroom in the basement. The quotes so far sound like something I could do. Northside True Value lost me as a customer before I even purchased anything. The experience of…read moretrying to buy something from them online was bizarre and it's a good example of how communication skills and good customer service skills are so important in business. They had an item (chainsaw) listed on eBay that I was interested in but I had a couple questions that I needed answers to before I bought it. So I sent a message to them through eBay. I received a response that was so illiterate that I simply couldn't understand it. I only had three questions. 1) Did they happen to have the same chainsaw but with a longer bar than the one listed on eBay (they are an authorized dealer for the brand)? The chainsaws are exactly the same but it can be ordered with several bar lengths and I wanted a longer bar. 2) If they had it with the longer bar and I ordered it directly from them would it still include free shipping as the one on eBay? 3) Since I was ordering from another state, would I be paying sales tax? The response I received didn't answer any of the questions. It just said they had the chainsaw with the shorter bar. So I wrote again to the email address listed on their website and I received a reply from Jay Vanevenhoven who I believe is either the owner or the manager of the store since his picture is on their website's home page. He informed me that they didn't have the chainsaw with the longer bar. Despite that, I was about to order it with the shorter bar when I decided to read the entire eBay listing. The problem was that three detailed item description sections in the eBay listing said it was a much smaller model chainsaw of much lower value. I figured whoever made the eBay ad simply goofed but I had to ask. So I emailed Jay again to make sure that I would be ordering the correct chainsaw. What I received was a short, blunt response in all caps. Here's a cut & paste of his response: "IT IS WHAT THE TITLE SAYS IT IS" But most of the detailed description said it was a different, much smaller chainsaw so my question was an obvious one. Now, maybe Jay simply isn't aware that typing in all caps is the internet equivalent of shouting and considered poor etiquette but I suspect that he was just irritated that I asked a perfectly legitimate question. I responded by saying that if he was buying something but the details of the item described a completely different item, I would guess that he would ask for a confirmation that he was buying what he thought he was buying. But apparently that made Jay angry. Now I had to decide if I would buy an expensive product from a company whose boss gets mad when you ask a him a very simple question. On top of that, one of his employees is apparently illiterate and should either learn English or NOT respond to customers in writing and another employee can't answer three simple questions all of which could have been answered in a single sentence. I don't think so. This experience was NOT a good example of customer service to put it mildly.
