The hotel has a parking structure that costs $15 for in-and-out privileges. We accidentally parked in a restricted spot and got a ticket. Expert tip: don't do that!! The room had a beautiful view: they know at the front desk that this is why you're here, so they will give you room options depending on the quality of the view. Make sure to ask in case they don't. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and the room - while a bit on the small side - was roomy enough. This would all have been worth the price ($120), but the room also comes with a complimentary breakfast buffet. This is a phenomenally well stocked buffet, with sausages, eggs, potatoes, cereal, and a waffle makers (4 of them!!). Definitely worth a return trip.

I noticed a space heater in the closet, but I was only there to sleep and enjoy a lower temp for that anyhow, so my Michigan spring stay worked out well. A lot of amenities you might expect to find in a modern hotel (coffee maker, clock, phone) are non-existent in your room, but do exist in the common room of each building. My personally experienced drawbacks were that some shades would not move up or down, very little toilet paper and tissue paper in the room, and some housekeeping neglect in the corners. Overall, a 3-4 star experience, but I am leaning towards 4.

Located in an old downtown office building with a four-story atrium, they've converted the offices on the first 5 or 6 floors into hotel rooms. The rest of the building is converted into residences ... and nice ones at that. We were here for a Tigers game on a nice warm Friday night. The hotel and surrounding area were really jumping. Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating, if a litte overwhelmed on a game day ... the first room they assigned us was already occupied. After straightening that out, it was pretty smooth sailing. Nice appointments in the rooms, comfortable bed, great views of the baseball park. Valet took care of the car, so we could just walk to the game and not have parking problems. There is a dining facility off the atrium (Preseley's Kitchen & Bar), so once you're here you can stay. All in all a nice setup and visit ... just keep in mind you're downtown and near a MLB park ... so for sleeping at night, it is very noisy.

The good news was that due to being gold rewards members we got a room upgrade. The bad news is they gave us a room without central air. Instead, our room had an enormous free-standing unit that not only had to attach to a window, but that also had to drip water into a trash can. This unit could only be hooked up to the window in the living room, meaning it was in a separate space from our bed! So we spent a very hot night with no blankets at a Marriot - not ok. To make things worse, the hotel was down to only one person working the front desk and she couldn't find the pack and play. We asked for one around 10p and by 11p we realized it simply wasn't going to happen. So we made up the sofa bed for our toddler. He's not used to sleeping in the same room as us, so we had to close the door between our bedroom and the living room until he fell asleep. Again, no cool air for us. The next morning we went out to explore and came back to our room for my sons nap. They'd brought a pack and play! Someone even attempted to put it together for us (they weren't successful). But we quickly realized that the trash can catching the dripping water from the AC unit had overflowed onto the carpet! Yes! Our room had been visited by house cleaning, but no one took care of this thing!! So after Jude had his nap, we requested to be moved to a new room. They put us in another suite down the hall. With central air!!!! Why weren't we put in one of these to begin with?!? I'm flabbergasted! Really Marriot? I have certain expectations of you! From there, things were so much better! But I don't know why we were put through that stuff to begin with. My advice - before going to your room, confirm that yours HAS CENTRAL AIR! Also, order your pack and play WAY ahead of time. And don't bother making them set it up Because you'll just have to fix it. Two other notes. 1. Getting to the parking lot is absolutely bizarre and confusing thanks to all the one way streets. I wish I could explain how to do it....you basically have to leave, make a block in the direction you least expect and then you'll find an open lot with an entrance where you swipe the card they give you. Good luck. 2. Breakfast is always crowded anywhere you go. The way this one is set up makes things even more annoying because it's so cramped. Be prepared.
