    The whole room.

Whatever you do, try not to get room 412, or most likely any of the *12 rooms. The tv looks like a postage stamp, there is no seating aside from a desk chair, and the TV is basically unwatchable because it's small, and 20' away from the bed. Yes, I measured. Aside from that, the wall heater sounds like a loud broken down car, and the room is cold regardless of how high you set the temp to. Not sure why they put me in an accessible room, when one wasn't requested, and I had been looking forward to the tub. So disappointing.

I found myself staying here for 3 nights for a conference in downtown Detroit. I had a fine stay here but one that falls somewhat short of a five-star experience. First, the positives. The room is absolutely massive. I don't recall having stayed in a room of that size in a very, very long time. Second, cleanliness. The room was well-cleaned, and the bathtub was clean and inviting enough that I ended up enjoying a relaxed bath twice in the span of three days - something I rarely get to do at my house. Third, the presence of a courtesy shuttle that was available to take hotel guests anywhere within a short distance of the hotel. Fourth and finally, they have an in-house restaurant. I had dinner on the first night that I got there, and it was great. The spicy chicken sandwich at $15 is one of the best bargains that I have recently come across in an era of rampant inflation. Along with taxes and tips, my HUGE dinner which likely added a full inch to my ever-growing waistline, came to only $28! Now, the reasons for taking off a star. First, the staff could have been more polite. I found the shuttle drivers in general, but especially the one I had on my very last day to be quite brusque. Also, the lady who checked me in on the first day should have indicated that there was going to be a hold for $300 - $100 per each night of stay - but I don't believe she had pointed that out. It is only when I came back to the reception puzzled by why I had been charged more than $800 for my stay that she informed me of that rule. Second, they missed my wake-up call on the very first night that I stayed at the hotel. I had asked for a wake-up call at 8:00 but I don't believe that ever came. The third and final point is a minor one, but I am noting here in my review. For the second morning that I was here, I requested an in-room breakfast for 8:00 a.m. The breakfast did not come at 8:00 but it came closer to 8:15 seriously inconveniencing me. The person who brought up my food indicated that she was there at 7:55 but because I was not yet out of bed, I don't think I ever heard her knock. However, in my estimation, she should not have waited until 8:15 to bring the meal but should have delivered the meal at 8:00, as was requested. Finally, I had used up the slip in my room to request the breakfast that morning. Even though I stayed for one more night, the hotel did not provide me with another slip on which I could put in an order for in-room breakfast for the last morning I was there. All in all, while I had a fine stay at The Atheneum and would be perfectly happy to consider staying here again, to the extent that the hotel wants to get outstanding reviews from guests - as opposed to ones that are merely good- it could train its staff better and nudge them/ encourage them to be more polite and courteous to their guests.

My husband wanted to have a quick stay-cation and booked us a room at Atgeneum Suite Hotel. We were both rather excited when we arrived. The lobby is huge and we'll decorated with plenty of places to sit. We were able to check in early, which was nice. We opted to park our car in a pay to park lot kitty corner from the hotel, as it was only $12/day versus $35 for valet. We headed up to our room, which was quite large. We had a separate living room with a TV, and a king bed with TV. The bathroom was large, and a little dated if I'm being honest. As we walked out of the hotel on our way to find some food, we noticed a hand full of people checking in. Still, it did not at all appear to be booked up. When we got back, we enjoyed the large bath and watched TV. So far, so good. The bed was uncomfortable and somewhat lumpy in areas, but we did our best to make it work. Then, at 11:30pm, we were awoken by a very loud group of folks that had checked into the room directly next to us, that shared a wall. They were yelling, banging doors, and whatnot. It sounded like they were in our room with us. It was insufferable. They did not quiet down until about 4am. My husband was so upset from the lack of sleep due to the folks on the other side of the wall. We tried for a few hours of sleep, then left around 6:30am. It's sad that the hotel staff decided to place those folks right next door when it was obvious that other rooms were vacant on the same floor. We will avoid this place in the future.

Absolute amazing hotel! We booked this hotel fairly last minute and I was very impressed with the staff, the food and our room. Right when we pulled up, we were greeted with the valet. They opened the door and asked if they could take our luggage. The service was very friendly and extremely fast. When we got to our room, we were wowed by the size, layout and all the accommodations. They had a great room service menu and the food was unbelievable. Amazing hotel and fantastic staff!

We have stayed at this venue several times over the years. It is a nice, unique hotel, centrally located if you are attending a sporting event in Detroit. The rooms are all essentially suites. Very large and plenty of room. As far as we know, most have a separate sitting area with couch, chair and TV, away from a large bedroom which also has a TV. Bathrooms are nice with extra large tub and showers. The rooms are a little dated in some aspects. This time, it does appear they have installed new carpet, beds and appointments, since the last time we stayed. Beds are very comfortable and the rooms are squeaky clean as is this entire property. Some areas in the rooms could use a refresh of new paint. There are 2 restaurant options in this Hotel. Symposia is a little more formal/upscale. Then there is the A Bar adjacent to the lobby. This was remodeled a few years back and is very nice and gets busy. We chose to eat in The A Bar as we wanted to watch a Basketball Game. Our server was kind of enough to put that game on for us, so we could watch it while we ate. ( They could use a couple more TV's in different areas) We started with the Chips and Salsa, a tasty cheese blend that was very tasty. Not your typical queso. We then ordered the Wings with Buffalo Sauce. These were nice size, meaty wings, good quality and taste. We also had the seasoned Shrimp with toasted baguette. The Shrimp were nice size, perfectly prepared with a mild spiced, zesty seasoning. We would order all of these items again. Our server Nick was phenomenal. Very personable and attentive. Worth checking out if looking for a nice play to stay while in Detroit.

I had a splendid time during my stay at the Athenaeum Hotel. I was only there for two nights but that was long enough for me to get a good feel of the place. I arrived the evening of my first night and the check-in process was a breeze. The lobby was beautiful and included plenty of seating as well as a nice bar. My room itself was beautifully decorated, had all the amenities I needed, and the view was nice. The only issue I ran into was the hot water in the sink wasn't working, it was spitting out water really choppy and wouldn't get warm. No worries, except for my face being cold when I washed it. During my stay I ordered room service both nights because I was so busy during the stay that it was the best way to go when I was finally able to grab dinner. The first night I got mac and cheese and a salad and the mac was on point. The next night I ordered the salmon and it was delicious. I'll also add that the valet was quick and everyone from the receptionist to the gentleman that delivered my food to the room were lovely. I would definitely stay again.

What a beautiful experience we had staying at Atheneum Suite Hotel!! We stayed for 5 nights for a funeral. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is so pleasant! They are friendly and so helpful. Our house keeping staff member Jasmine left us a kind note and was always so helpful and friendly. Cory, the door man was also always so happy, helpful and kind. He consistently went out of his way to make each day stress free. He always put a smile on our face. Angie, at The Symposium restaurant was also so kind and helpful. The staff in the restaurant were fantastic too. Eric our server is a sommelier. His knowledge of wine was incredible. This hotel is so fortunate to have such an amazing staff!! The lobby was warm, welcoming and large. It is attractively decorated. The rooms are very clean and spacious. We loved the walkways to the rooms which felt like an atrium. The room has a refrigerator, coffee maker, iron and ironing board, which was so helpful for such a long stay. The food and service in the bar was outstanding. I highly recommend eating in the hotels main restaurant, The Symposium. The food and service were a 10!! It's a meal I will never forgot. I highly recommend this hotel!!

This property is housed in the 1925 Metropolitan Building, a stunning Neo-Gothic "Jeweler's Building" that sat vacant for nearly 40 years. Seeing it restored to its former glory rather than being demolished is a win for the city.  The entrance lobby and the grand stairway to the second floor are phenomenal--the restoration team clearly put a lot of heart into preserving the marble and the ornate details. Because the hotel has to conform to the original historic footprint, the rooms are unique and oddly shaped. It was a refreshing change of pace to stay somewhere that broke out of the usual "cookie-cutter" hotel mold. My room featured a long internal hallway, a small kitchenette, and enough windows to provide a fantastic view of the Detroit skyline.  Check-in was seamless, and the staff were excellent throughout my stay. I initially considered subtracting a star because my room lacked a steamer, but the breakfast service won me back. The made-to-order omelets and the yogurt granola station were top-notch, and that high-quality start to the day made up for any minor room omissions. If you appreciate architecture with a history and a bit of character, this is definitely the place to stay in Detroit.

The location is definitely the highlight, it's right next to Tigers Stadium, close to Ford Field, and within walking distance of the NBA arena, plus tons of great restaurants and bars nearby. If you're in town for a game or event, the location is hard to beat. That said, the hotel itself felt small and a bit cramped. The room was on the smaller side, and the bed wasn't particularly comfortable for a hotel at this price point (around ~$350/night). For that cost, I expected wayyy more space and comfort. One downside was the hotel bar,I couldn't even get a seat and didn't realize you needed a reservation, which was frustrating and took away from the experience. It's not a bad hotel by any means, and it has a cool vibe, but overall it feels overpriced for what you get. Decent stay, great location just not sure the value is there.
