Oh my goodness, what a treasure in our midst here in Detroit! From the moment i made the reservation for an upper level Sunrise Cabin to the morning we left as truly satisfied patrons, the experience was simply a cut above in smart design, environmental sustainability, professionalism and meticulous care. Not only did i receive email regarding my reservation specifics and check-in process, but the email was followed closer to our arrival date with a phone call. The moment i heard Harriett's caring voice, i just knew we were going to love the experience! Located in mid-town Detroit, The El Moore is easily accessible from Alexandrine. Gated parking on-site is complementary and secure. You don't get in without the passcode. The Reception salon is beautifully restored. Coffee/tea are available 24/7. The morning coffee is excellent! Continental breakfast features locally-sourced delights. Thank you Michael for the extra information you shared re: the space and the surrounding area, including the El Moore's newly opened, Seasons (grocery) Market adjacent to the lodge. Our 5th floor Sunrise Cabin was accessed by stepping out on to the rooftop. It definitely lent itself to ski lodge appeal as we entered the rustic cabin. With floor to ceiling windows to gave us a gorgeous panoramic city view, i expected the room to be very cold. I was wrong. It was cozy, comfortable and spacious. The bed was comfy. Bathroom was well-sized, and the shower was lovely. Be aware that city sounds are audible. A Fire Station is located up the street. If one is otherwise comfortable with the sounds of city life, then the El Moore just might be the place for you on a visit to downtown Detroit.

Lives up to the hype! Very nice people, comfortable rooms, great grounds. Location is perfect. Grew up here, great spot to visit the city.

I was lucky enough to stay in the Varney for 4 nights and loved my time there! The building itself is beautiful and the renovation was clearly done with an eye for attention to detail. It has the perfect combination of modern and historic touches. This hotel checks all the boxes: great location, safe, clean (spotless actually!), comfortable, awesome breakfast, unique, and excellent customer service. As if that wasn't enough, the people are what makes El Moore so special. Every single person I encountered, from staff to residents, was friendly and made me feel like family. Michel went out of his way every morning to get breakfast out early to accommodate my work schedule. I spent my last night/day there during a snowstorm and the property manager (Jason) was kind enough to clean all the snow off my rental before I came out. I can't say enough great things about el Moore Lodge. You guys are the best and run your business very well!! I can't wait to come back when it's warm to see the garden this summer.

My boyfriend and I chose those place for a romantic one night get away. We stayed in the sunrise rooftop cabin and it was beyond beautiful! The cleanliness of the entire building is worth 10 stars. Our room was so clean and so perfect in its appearance and the design aspect. The staff was beyond our expectations as well. Harriet was so kind and helpful through the booking process and our stay. Definitely recommend the rooftop cabins to anyone who loves a good view and simplicity!!

We stayed in the Benedict and have already booked our next two trips to stay at the El Moore again. The staff is sooooo friendly and helpful. It's like staying with your best friends. They are so knowledgeable of everything in the area and have so many great recommendations. My wife and I loved the location. Just minutes from downtown but all of the perks of not being in the bustling areas. The lodge is sooooo safe. The gates and the doors are all protected by passcode. When we walked into our room, we were just stunned by the beauty and simplicity. There is a real effort to be eco friendly but there isn't any sacrifice in quality. The rooms are beautiful. It's the perfect balance of historic charm and bright modern. We had planned on staying downtown in a few months but cancelled our reservations and made new ones with El Moore while there. Words can't really describe how happy we were to have found this place.

We were truly impressed by all the kindness and welcoming spirit of the staff and everyone that we had the pleasure of meeting. They were all very knowable and helpful during our stay in Detroit. Our room was amazing -- we stayed in "The Holly" which was the right size for us. Everything in our room was "top notch" the bedding, pillows, towels, soap, etc. was the best that I have EVER seen/or used in ANY place that I have stayed -- They Have It Together!! I was also very impressed and pleased by the GREEN Factor of the Lodge-- they use solar panels, motion activated lighting, water saving (toilet, shower head) and that they recycle as well as compost their food waste for their gardens-- (which are absolutely beautiful -- A MUST SEE). The breakfast selection was wonderful and delicious -- plenty of fresh coffee, organic tea, juice, milk, fresh fruit, oatmeal, bagels, almond butter, cream cheese, real butter as well as China Plates, Silverware, cloth napkins. I can't say enough about the area and the graciousness of every person that met during our first stay in Detroit. We had no idea that the area was so beautiful and the people here were so welcoming and happy-- this dispelled a lot of our notions about the City of Detroit. :) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND EL MOORE and hope to visit again in the future to further explore YOUR BEAUTIFUL CITY!! Thank You So Much!! Dorothy Britt and Linda Van Brabant (Duanesburg NY and Albany NY) :)

The coffee spot does what it does - the best thing is that it's open 24 hours and they have a nice variety of pastries and snacks. The staff was polite and helpful from the hotel to the casino, although many of the casino staff members were unaware of promotions. Slots were mostly clean, as was the overall casino space. The room wasn't "ready", so I waited more than an hour in their "living room" area. After more than an hour, I checked back in with the front desk, and was told no rooms were ready. Really? So why did more than 200 people get to check in and head up to their rooms while I was waiting? I asked when the room would be ready, and was told it would be a minimum of another half hour, or I could accept a down grade (for the same price of the suite I reserved) I asked if I could be assigned the room and have the room serviced while I was unpacking, "that isn't allowed" So after a 4 hour drive to get there, they forced me to drive another 4 hours home because they couldn't provide me a room within 2 hours of their promised check in time If you can't operate a simple hotel in Detroit, just shut down

This property is housed in the 1925 Metropolitan Building, a stunning Neo-Gothic "Jeweler's Building" that sat vacant for nearly 40 years. Seeing it restored to its former glory rather than being demolished is a win for the city.  The entrance lobby and the grand stairway to the second floor are phenomenal--the restoration team clearly put a lot of heart into preserving the marble and the ornate details. Because the hotel has to conform to the original historic footprint, the rooms are unique and oddly shaped. It was a refreshing change of pace to stay somewhere that broke out of the usual "cookie-cutter" hotel mold. My room featured a long internal hallway, a small kitchenette, and enough windows to provide a fantastic view of the Detroit skyline.  Check-in was seamless, and the staff were excellent throughout my stay. I initially considered subtracting a star because my room lacked a steamer, but the breakfast service won me back. The made-to-order omelets and the yogurt granola station were top-notch, and that high-quality start to the day made up for any minor room omissions. If you appreciate architecture with a history and a bit of character, this is definitely the place to stay in Detroit.

It was nice that they offered special pricing if you booked in the block (which I think is standard of most hotels anyways). The first and biggest problem was the air conditioning. I had heard stories from people there for the wedding for 3 days straight that their room had AC issues. Thursday it was 85 degrees outside. Most of rooms were 80-86 degrees and the AC was not working. It was insane. I felt bad for the maintenance guy because he was doing his best to try and fix everything but it just seemed like something they should have tried to take care a few days in advance if they knew they had 100+ people coming in at the same time. We requested a renovated room and I don't even know if that's what we got. It was just very underwhelming for what is supposed to be a nice hotel. It's also weird that they don't have any food options inside? The lobby is really nice and the hotel bar looks great. The staff was friendly when we interacted with them. There is a small parking lot next door. If the hotel has a lot of guests staying, there probably won't be enough parking spaces for everyone which did happen to quite a few people I knew.

The location is definitely the highlight, it's right next to Tigers Stadium, close to Ford Field, and within walking distance of the NBA arena, plus tons of great restaurants and bars nearby. If you're in town for a game or event, the location is hard to beat. That said, the hotel itself felt small and a bit cramped. The room was on the smaller side, and the bed wasn't particularly comfortable for a hotel at this price point (around ~$350/night). For that cost, I expected wayyy more space and comfort. One downside was the hotel bar,I couldn't even get a seat and didn't realize you needed a reservation, which was frustrating and took away from the experience. It's not a bad hotel by any means, and it has a cool vibe, but overall it feels overpriced for what you get. Decent stay, great location just not sure the value is there.

I checked in digitally, which was convenient, and throughout my stay I noticed the front desk staff was great in terms of customer service. Unfortunately, my experience started off on a negative note with valet. I pulled up needing to quickly run up to my room and asked if there was a place I could briefly park for a couple of minutes. I was told no and that I would have to valet my car. When I explained I'd be right back down, the response was basically that there were no other options. For a quick stop, that felt unnecessary and inconvenient, especially on a busy Saturday with limited parking. It turned what should have been a simple moment into a frustrating one. The room itself was nice, clean, and comfortable. However, I selected my room expecting a street view, and the actual view was extremely limited and blocked. Since I planned to spend a good amount of time in the room, this was disappointing. I do think there should be more transparency or a disclaimer for rooms with obstructed views. I also visited the rooftop during my stay. The host was great and welcoming, but the bartender experience was just okay, nothing particularly memorable. The next morning, I ordered room service. The process wasn't as seamless as it should have been -- the QR code on the menu didn't include all of the options listed on the physical menu, so I still had to call to place my order. My traditional breakfast with a mimosa came out to about $50, and for that price, I honestly would have preferred to just dine at Hamilton's downstairs. Unfortunately, because it was Easter, they were only offering a buffet, so a standard breakfast wasn't even an option. That made the situation feel even more inconvenient. Because of my initial interaction, I chose not to use valet for the rest of my stay and opted for street parking instead. Overall, I would consider staying at The Godfrey again because I enjoy the property and the rooftop, but I would hope for a more accommodating and seamless experience next time.
