It really adds to the overall experience and makes it such a fun place to stay. Everyone on the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, but a special shoutout to the woman working the front desk late at night who went above and beyond and even hooked us up with some sweet treats! It was such a thoughtful and unexpected touch. Beautiful hotel, great location, and genuinely wonderful people. I'll definitely be back!

Located in an old downtown office building with a four-story atrium, they've converted the offices on the first 5 or 6 floors into hotel rooms. The rest of the building is converted into residences ... and nice ones at that. We were here for a Tigers game on a nice warm Friday night. The hotel and surrounding area were really jumping. Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating, if a litte overwhelmed on a game day ... the first room they assigned us was already occupied. After straightening that out, it was pretty smooth sailing. Nice appointments in the rooms, comfortable bed, great views of the baseball park. Valet took care of the car, so we could just walk to the game and not have parking problems. There is a dining facility off the atrium (Preseley's Kitchen & Bar), so once you're here you can stay. All in all a nice setup and visit ... just keep in mind you're downtown and near a MLB park ... so for sleeping at night, it is very noisy.

I'm a huge fan of hotels that breathe new life into historic structures, and the Element in Detroit…read moreis a perfect example. This property is housed in the 1925 Metropolitan Building, a stunning Neo-Gothic "Jeweler's Building" that sat vacant for nearly 40 years. Seeing it restored to its former glory rather than being demolished is a win for the city.  The entrance lobby and the grand stairway to the second floor are phenomenal--the restoration team clearly put a lot of heart into preserving the marble and the ornate details. Because the hotel has to conform to the original historic footprint, the rooms are unique and oddly shaped. It was a refreshing change of pace to stay somewhere that broke out of the usual "cookie-cutter" hotel mold. My room featured a long internal hallway, a small kitchenette, and enough windows to provide a fantastic view of the Detroit skyline.  Check-in was seamless, and the staff were excellent throughout my stay. I initially considered subtracting a star because my room lacked a steamer, but the breakfast service won me back. The made-to-order omelets and the yogurt granola station were top-notch, and that high-quality start to the day made up for any minor room omissions. If you appreciate architecture with a history and a bit of character, this is definitely the place to stay in Detroit.

What this hotel offers in their rooms are sound machines, which absolutely make a difference. As soon as we turned on the sound machine it really helped to drown out the noise. A good venue if you're looking for accommodation's.

There are five homes including a Carriage House that are gorgeous! They were built in the 1800s by Detroits affluent. Each house has several rooms with en suite bathrooms. There are many architecturally pleasing designs with each home. There are turrets, covered porches, beveled glass, etc. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. While there I found out they just recently reopened after being closed during the pandemic. Many places list it as closed so we brought it to the attention of the desk clerk and hopefully they will get it updated.

I noticed a space heater in the closet, but I was only there to sleep and enjoy a lower temp for that anyhow, so my Michigan spring stay worked out well. A lot of amenities you might expect to find in a modern hotel (coffee maker, clock, phone) are non-existent in your room, but do exist in the common room of each building. My personally experienced drawbacks were that some shades would not move up or down, very little toilet paper and tissue paper in the room, and some housekeeping neglect in the corners. Overall, a 3-4 star experience, but I am leaning towards 4.

They have display cases sharing the building's story + Rooms are nicely furnished, and I was pleasantly surprised that all the amenities were Le Labo. Pretty bougie as those soaps, shower gels, shampoos, lotions etc are usually $50-$65 per bottle! + Strong wifi. I was able to log in and do some work after getting home from work each day. No issues. + Spacious shower with nice rain showerhead + Good AC, especially clutch for this July visit. Adjustable thermostat worked well. + Free coffee downstairs in the morning + Free fitness center access + Check in and check out were quick and efficient. Lady who helped me check out was super nice and sent me my receipt via email. - No hot water or coffee in the room or ice machine. You can request a cup of these from the front desk, I think. - One of the pillows had grey stains on it. Yum. Not an issue as I had 8 pillows total on my 2 queen beds for 1 business traveler lol

New Center, North End

I know Hotel Saint Regis has received some mixed reviews, so I wanted to share my experience…read morebecause my particular stay was a very positive one. This is an older historic hotel rather than a brand-new luxury property, and I think understanding that before arriving makes a difference. I actually enjoyed the fact that the hotel has its own history and personality instead of feeling exactly like every other modern hotel. One of my favorite things about staying here was the location. The Fisher Building and Fisher Theatre are extremely close, and getting around this part of Detroit is convenient. If you're coming to the area for a show or simply want to explore more of the city, the location can be a major advantage. My room was actually very good, and I particularly appreciated the good view from my window at Floor 5. I realize other reviewers have reported different experiences, so I can only judge the room that I personally received. The employees were also very passionate and nice. Good customer service can completely change how a hotel stay feels, and the employees cleaned the trash. That made me feel welcomed rather than like I was simply another room number. I also really enjoyed knowing that I was staying somewhere with genuine Detroit history. The Saint Regis has been around since the 1960s and has hosted some remarkable guests over the decades. There aren't many hotels where the history itself becomes part of the experience. Would I call this a flawless, ultra-modern luxury hotel? No. It's an older property, and based on other reviews, experiences can clearly vary between rooms. But five stars represents my own experience, and my stay gave me exactly what I needed: great view, Impractical Jokers show on TV, and a silly hat and sunglasses from a store nearby. For its history, convenient New Center location and the positive experience I personally had, I'm happy to give Hotel Saint Regis five stars.

The carpet was filthy that we had to request that they have it cleaned or at least covered with a dance floor. There was no dance floor available. The carpet also had snagged fibers sticking up in various areas which is a risk management liability for a fall. The white chairs were in pretty bad shape with tears, dirt and some of the cushions actually separating from the base of the chairs. Another risk management liability. Several of the hotel black tablecloths had visible stains that we requested to be replaced by housekeeping. Whoever setup the room had to have seen the stains and just put them on the table anyway. They just didn't care was being presented to us for our hard earn dollars. The self-parking was $7 one night and $20 the next night. The lot filled up pretty fast with hotel guests and our gala attendees then needed to find nearby lots or street parking options. Although valet prices are posted, I never saw any valet staff. This hotel also does not allow kitchen access for any caterers. You must order drapes to curtain off a prep area for the caterer with them doing most of the prep outdoors at the exit to the rear hotel parking lot. This also means there are no food services other than a vending machine near the check-in counter for hotel guests. Booking teams be aware!

The café has been closed and converted into an event space, leaving guests with essentially no food options on-site. We also tried to visit the Candy Bar around 10 p.m. and, despite the space being only about half full, were told they weren't allowing anyone else in. We explained that we were hotel guests and asked if we could simply get a drink to enjoy in the lobby, but they wouldn't allow that either. For the price, there are much better options nearby. Rooms at Shinola are roughly the same price, but are significantly larger and nicer, with multiple food and drink options. They also allow guests to enjoy a drink in the lobby or take it back to their room. It's disappointing to see how much this property has changed since our last stay. Unfortunately, after this experience, I won't be making the mistake of staying here again.
