We enjoyed the Empyrean lounge. We enjoyed every restaurant. Parking was convenient and only $18.00 a day. All the restaurants had great food and good Happy Hour specials. The river view we had was nice. The location is convenient as well. There are also some great restaurants and bars nearby. We attended a concert at NORVA and that was about a three minute walk. I would love to stay a couple more weeks but I couldn't get the govt per diem rate anymore. Some additional pros: Clean hotel, not stingy with waters, $15.00 daily credit (30 for a couple), lite breakfast in lounge, amenities for Empyrean rooms, happy hour specials in lounge, lite dinner in lounge, free pool table at Grain, awesome bartenders who give good recommendations. Front desk personnel are helpful! Some cons: hit or miss service in lounge, drinks can be expensive, no microwave in lounge, no microwave in rooms, cold food in lounge.

I'm not joking when I say it took 5 minutes waiting for it. 2. The rooms are very basic and blah. Nothing really special about them and they are dated. 3. The noise level is pretty high if you are by the road. I was on the 19th floor and could hear cars going by ALL night long, it directly affected my ability to get a good nights sleep. 4. The TV channels are severely lacking, I think there was maybe 20 channels to choose from and it was hard to find anything to watch (I like to watch tv and relax before I go to bed). Overall it's a great location and the hotel is nice when you arrive in the lobby, but inside your room it leaves a lot to improve.

The hotel is very walkable to many places to eat, including a really nice steak & seafood place around the corner. Walking to the room was a pleasure, as they have art on display throughout the property, as well as a nook in the main hall upstairs that has a water fridge and fresh fruit for the guests. The room was FABULOUS! When I first entered it my first thought was the interesting and unique design of it. The layout was spacious, of both the bedroom and the shower/water closet areas. The HVAC was nice and quiet and worked great and there were plenty of windows in my room. Bed was comfy too. Most importantly, the room was very clean! No mildew or mold in the shower area, no stains on the floor, everything looked great. They also featured Illy coffee in the room, with a special Illy coffee maker! Definitely enjoyed my stay here and I'll be back!

The service here is not what Marriott usually is and was quite shocking. I will give details later…read moreafter the basics The room is spacious with a city view. The king bed was comfortable if a bit soft and the duvet is a bit thin. Sometimes we were cold. The bathroom was clean, but the window in the bathroom doesn't have a room darkening shade, and the bathroom door is frosted glass, so there is a lot of light shiny through. The omelette at the breakfast restaurant was good. There is a delightful free museum of glass adjacent. Gym: had one non- working treadmill and 3 working. It has bikes and a few weights too. Water cups are plastic. This should be changed to something biodegradable Problems : There was not one day that didn't have a significant issue. The least of these was rude or incomplete service, likely based in either poor training or ignorance or both The greatest issues concerned housekeeping. A lack of TOWELS --yes, that's right--meant every day we either had to beg for towels or not shower. The shower leaked onto the floor ( door seal insufficient) so keeping a towel for more than one day wasn't an option as the puddle needed sopping up so the sink could be accessed Gregg, a manager, tried very hard to fix issues. Even with him promising, we still had issues. Because of Gregg's efforts this review is a 2 star instead of a 1 star. Look at my reviews and you will see I very rarely give low ratings Compliments to Adrienne ( front desk who was friendly and helpful with some printing jobs) and Gregg for good service

I recently stayed at the Residence Inn Norfolk Downtown and unfortunately my experience did not…read morematch the expectations I have for a Marriott property -- especially for the price I paid. At around $300 per night, I expected a much higher level of quality and comfort. When we first entered the room, there was a very strong and unpleasant odor. Maintenance had to come and spray Lysol and ZEP to try to eliminate the smell. We ended up opening the windows and the door to air the room out, which eventually helped, but that is not something guests should have to do upon arrival. There were also several maintenance and cleanliness issues in the room. The closet door would not slide properly, the carpet had visible stains, and the bed sheets had a noticeable stain and were wrinkled. The comforters also appeared worn and not very clean, and the sofa looked old and stained as well. While the kitchen area appeared to be cleaned, the rest of the room definitely needed more attention. Another inconvenience was that only one elevator was working. A gentleman who stays there often mentioned that the second elevator had reportedly been out of service for about two months. The breakfast was mediocre at best -- nothing particularly impressive. On a positive note, the staff was friendly and the lobby and hallways were nice and clean, which made the condition of the rooms even more disappointing. Overall, I expected much more from a Marriott property at this price point. The hotel has potential, but the guest rooms need significantly more attention to cleanliness, maintenance, and upkeep.

I have found something in common with the Marriot brand. When you run into issues you never get…read morethe typical how was your stay email to complete a survey. Well, there were issues on this stay. Before I go into those issues I want to thank the person at the front desk (1151PM on 17OCT25) who took time to listen and most of all took action and did not just give the standard "Oh I am going to check on it." I will get to her later. So let's break this down in bullet form of the issues. - Showed up at the hotel and not greeted as the Marriott tier guest. It might not seem much but it does come with some benefits when you reach a specific tier. Things like snacks, water, and maybe some extra points. -Air conditioner was out, and we let the front desk staff know. It was more than warm in the room. Early the next morning there was a knock at the door and it was a maintenance guy who said the HVAC was out. He was looking for a circuit breaker to get the HVAC running and this was not just a single room problem. It was not his job, but we mentioned to him that there was no microwave in the room. Yeah, the room (One Bedroom Suite, 1 Bedroom Suite, 1 King, Sofa bed) that was advertised to have a microwave in it. He said, "Bet, I am going to look for one and get one here for you." -We left a bit later from the unadvertised and unwanted sauna that was our room and told the front desk about our microwave issue and the fact that it was still very warm in the room. We also told a manager who happened to be on our floor about our issues, and she said she was going to call the maintenance guy..... Yeah the same guy who knocked before because I am sure he did not know. -Seeing how this was going we told the front desk also about the microwave and cooling problem. Hey, cast a wide net and maybe we might catch someone who will do something. -Came back from being out in town and what do you know. Still very warm and no microwave to heat up the food that we were hoping to have later on. -Once again, we were heading out for a comedy show and we disturbed the person working at the desk as he was watching his college football game to let him know that we had no microwave and the ac was not working. He said he was going to get us a microwave and that the room should start cooling down in about 30 minutes. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice ..... well I guess that's the Marriott way. Came back from the comedy show and he was watching his football games as he was before we left. We asked if he got that microwave for us and he said yes, and we were good to go. Walking into the room the reality was different. Actions speak louder than words. No microwave and still just as hot. I then go downstairs and said hey can I use your microwave as a hint, and it did not register to this guy. He takes me to the back where they do the laundry, and I use the microwave that the hotel staff uses to heat our food up. WTF! So basically, we were lied to multiple times. -I specifically asked for a room on the second floor which I did get. I got it to make sure to get a good night's sleep. It is advertised that no pets are allowed on the second floor and at times you get a dog that is excited and keeps you up. "Pets not allowed on floors2/8/9." Nothing against dogs but yes there were pets on the second floor despite saying they were not allowed on this floor. Hope no one with allergies to animals were those floors. -Now to breakfast. I understand things get busy, but you can't snap at the guests. Well, you can snap at them but not very professional. The waffle batter dispenser went empty. A family came down and was about to use it and said that it was empty. The next thing I hear is, "I know I only got two hands." They had no idea that you knew because the dispenser was empty. Old news to the kitchen staff but not for the guests. Four people knew of this and issue with one being told twice to no action at all being initiated. Oh, excuse me, no action wanting to be initiated. In a way I am glad I had this experience here. This place was on our list where I work as an option to stay at for a few conferences next year. It was on our list. So, I will say that I do thank the female who checked us out for helping us out in the end. I especially thank her for the bottled water because once again the room was hot still. We were told we would be compensated 50K points which came out to being compensated 25K I found in an email a few days later. So, the front desk lady did take off a night but overall, a majority of this could have been handled so much earlier with a bit of motivation. Look at the reviews which I should have done. The most recent reviews have all been two stars and below showing no effort is being made to improve. So to my coworkers who were coming here for a meeting you can thank me for helping you dodge this place.

The hotel shares a parking lot with Walgreens which came in super handy because my husband came down with a terrible head cold, so we had to buy every decongestant and cough medicine known to mankind. We walked to Walmart across the street to buy our cases of soda and bottles of wine to carry on to the ship. I forgot my belt for the formal night and found one for $10 at a women's clothing store in the same area, but we could have walked to TJ Max too. There's a Chick Fil A and a Target across the street too. We were happy about the 24 hr coffee and hot water which we needed for Theraflu and Emergen-C. Room was super clean. Had a mini fridge and microwave. We didn't make it to breakfast only because we were zonked from our red-eye flight and the sleep disrupting cough. All of the staff were incredibly courteous and professional. The Lyft ride, for a midsize vehicle to fit all of our luggage, to the port was $13. I would definitely recommend.

You might think that they are noisy with planes constantly flying overhead, but that is not the case. I usually look for them because they are usually reasonably priced with good amenities. Hampton Inn always has the features we like and this one in Norfolk is no exception. Upon check-in, we were given a room at the end of the hall on the 2nd floor. It turns out the hotel wasn't too full and we were upgraded to a large junior suite! Our very comfortable suite was easily 600-700 sq ft vs a regular 250-300 sq ft room and was long enough to have two windows facing the street. There is a wet bar area by the entrance with sink, refrigerator, coffee machine & microwave. Behind that was a large closet and a separate bathroom sink area outside of the shower/bathtub/toilet room. A king-size bed, 52" HDTV, desk and pull-out sleeper couch filled up the rest of the room. There are plenty of outlets & USB ports conveniently located on the desk and nightstands to charge all your phones, earpods, watches, ipads and laptops. The TV was even mounted on a swing-out mount so that you can see it properly from either the couch or in bed. The WiFi was adequate but you had to sometimes reenter your info to login. Breakfast served from 6am-10am everyday was adequate, though other Hamptons have better spreads. The one chafing tray with 3 compartments usually had scrambled eggs or omelet, sausage or bacon and home fried potatoes or biscuits and gravy. Get some toast or a bagel with fresh fruit, juice and you're all set for the day. The all-day coffee carafes are located in the lobby by the elevators though, not in the breakfast area. You can also enjoy a hot, fresh made Belgian Waffle from the DIY waffle irons, with a full size and a 4 mini iron. If you're on the run, the staff sets out quick grab-n-go breakfast sacks by the front door with bagel & spreads, fruit & yogurt. We didn't get to use the indoor pool, but we did use the gym once, even though it was small with only 3 machines. The gym opens at 6am though. For a long weekend stay, this was really nice and I would stay here again in the future.
