I recently helped tour different assisted livings for my grandmother. I think the highest compliment I can give Stillwater is that not a single one we found was as nice, welcoming, and friendly as this place. Every place we toured, I compared to Stillwater. If Edwardsville was the area we were looking for her to live, without a doubt or any hesitation, I would have her at Stillwater!

Mom has commented on several occasions about how she feels safe and pampered. We wish we hadn't waited so long to make the change.

I can't recommend the Meridian Village Reach rehab facility. My wife spent more than a week there…read morerecovering from an emergency partial hip replacement. While she was there, she showed multiple signs of a UTI, possibly from catheterization during her surgery. I mentioned this several times and was ignored until I showed staff positive results from a home UTI test. They then agreed to send out a urine sample for test, but never got back to us with the results. Subsequent testing at BJC confirmed a UTI and my wife was put on antibiotics. Conjecture by a friend is that Meridian didn't want to report an infection to the state and was simply waiting for her to be discharged rather than taking action. Home care would have been better and safer for my wife.

The REACH program at Meridian is awesome, they are so friendly to my grandma who has had to be here…read moretwice now, they offer activities, bring therapy dogs, bring her snacks sometimes, at first she wanted to go home but now she kind of likes it here, she is still wanting to go home but at the same time she is comfortable here, they are quick at bringing her medicine when she isn't feeling good, the only thing I would recommend improving on is the therapy department here, there is a BIG lack of communication and don't always do the best job they either overwork her too much or they don't do enough at times, but other than that I think if you have to stay here for a short time for physical rehab I think it's a good place to go to. Within days: Untreated reported UTI symptoms (UA delayed multiple days), no wound dressing changes on surgical site despite nurses questioning it repeatedly, denied basic shower due to scheduling, hostile/dismissive staff response to my concerns (e.g., assistant DON said "didn't understand why I was calling"). By March 19, she was incoherent/hallucinating with sepsis, large abscess (12x7 inches), pus in catheter, 100°F fever--sent to hospital. Readmitted March 20. This rapid decline to life-threatening condition feels like gross neglect. Filed complaint with Illinois Dept of Public Health. Proceed with caution--check recent inspections and talk to multiple families.

Between other family members I have probably been to at least two dozen area senior care centers (from alright to not acceptable). None of them come close to the care our mother has received here. I called many other facilities that had a continuum of care and they all said that our mother would be skilled nursing (because she requires help transferring and dressing) which would be $6,000+ per month for a shared one room. St. Agnes said they thought they could get her to improve and be more independent and they were right. Here she has her own studio apartment. They are genuinely concerned about all aspects (physical, mental and spiritual) of our mother's wellbeing. She has been here only a month and we have already seen a physical and mental improvement in her. The nuns are very compassionate and coordinate every aspect of her care.

So, she did not go down to the dining room for dinner. A couple of her friends ask the kitchen manager if they could take her a Submarine sandwich. (Submarine Sandwich was one of the items available as dinner choice) they were told that if they got a wheelchair and rolled her down to the dining room that she could have a sandwich. The ridiculous thing about this, is that you take containers to the dining room you can legitimately take your entire meal to your room. Looks to me that the new kitchen manager does not have any humanity. Cambridge House of Maryville will cut coast any way they can. This event is a good example of how greedy they are. So, in my opinion people should be very careful when the choose an assisted living for their loved one. Cambridge house of Maryville has consistently dropped the quality of the food and menu items available in in the dining room since I moved in two years ago.

They are now doing something here that you will not learn about on the Cambridge House web site. They will have item listed on the dining room menu that part of the residents will not receive at the meal. For example, today barbeque ribs were listed on the menu, but the kitchen manager did not order enough for everyone. So, the last 30 percent or so of the resident will have to eat something else. today they got a piece of pork loin with barbeque sauce on it. this is becoming really common at Cambridge House of Maryville. PS. I got fish for lunch (also on the menu for today) this fish was similar to Gordon' frozen breaded fish that you would buy in the frozen department at the grocery store. but it was kind of swivel up and the breading looked really strange. It just did not taste fresh. We had this same fish about a week ago and it was very good. I think I have figured this out. I think they had a lot of the fish left over. So, the cook re froze the already cooked fish. And that left over fish is what we were served today. This is about Saturday 8-12-23. Yesterday evening the diner menu offered, Blackened Fish and potato wedges and other items. My Neighbor ordered the Blacked fish and potato wedges. When the server brought his plate there was only a single piece of fish on the plate. The server told him that they were out of potato wedges, and that they were not going to prepare any more. My Neighbor was offered some potato chips to replace the potato wedges. Things like this happen often here at Cambridge House of Maryville. Also, the Star rating on the Cambridge House web site is not correct. The reason I say this is because one woman that lives here has her same review listed 5 times, and another woman has her same review listed 3 times. So what this means is that Cambridge House 4.8-star rating is not correct !
