Gastown, Downtown

On a recent sugar binge at Purebread, I spotted a stylish gent carrying a Frank & Oak brown paper…read moreshopping bag. Fifteen minutes, a few hundred calories, and a quick Yelp search later, I found myself standing inside of their beautiful Gastown store. First, it's hard not to be smitten by the space itself. Wood, brick, and steel seem to be Gastown staples, and this space blends the materials beautifully. At the same time though, cascading wall plants and some strategically placed trees make the space feel cozy. Factor in the ridiculously comfortable sofa near the dressing rooms, and you just might find yourself inquiring about a sublet. As for the main event, the clothing, the styles are mostly classic (with some welcome twists), the fabrics look and feel expensive, and the cuts are on the slimmer side. You can find everything from t-shirts and chinos to formal suits and sneakers (and pretty much everything in between). And the best part - the prices are actually reasonable. I have to give much deserved kudos to the wonderful staff, who made my shopping experience enjoyable from start to finish. Their patience and assistance while I seemingly tried on everything in the store was greatly appreciated. One final tidbit, make sure to enroll in their rewards program, which gives you back 4% of your in-store purchase for next-time. The credit never expires, and is stored electronically in their computer system for your convenience.

If you are in their store, it is most likely that you've chexked out their website already. My review is based on the customer service I received at the Gastown location. Me being an old dude, I'm use to shopping at GAP where the staff are smiling and super friendly despite on the stupidity of my questions. In this store, I got a blank look when I asked for helped, as if like a regular dude like me don't have clothing questions. The staff was unsure on what products were in promotion which is fine, if I was in their place I wouldnt remember either. It wasn't all that bad, but I just got a negative vibe from the staff almost as if they were lifeless and annoyed. Essentially, Frank and Oak staff in this store really need to smile and greet customers as if they like being there. No attitudes despite on shitty the day is going. The atmosphere in the place felt very snotty which does not make a good shopping experience. Regardless, I will continue to shop here and continue to ask questions so beware staff I will test your patience. I like their products and their prices are fair. Good day to you all!

pleasantly surprised to discover that holts is stocking kbeauty essentials like torriden, tirtir,…read morecentella, anua, and cosrx, because nothing pairs better with luxury retail than glass skin. i stopped by during their festive holiday kickoff event in november, where okanagan wineries were in attendance pouring tastings, and the pop up beauty booths were doing their best to remind everyone that self care is a lifestyle, not a suggestion. valmont and jo malone stations were handing out samples and servers circulated with trays of canapés, so the entire floor smelled of soft citrus, blooming florals, and sandalwood. the department store itself is accented in hot pink holiday decor, bold, festive, and just the right amount of extra. and then there's the jellycat area, giant plush characters on display: a bunny in a pink parka waiting for its car service, a giant sun smiling like it knows insider information, a crescent moon with legs casually crossed, a hipster whale in a beanie, plus an entire supporting cast of teddy bears and tiny plush vegetables. from the upper floors, the view becomes even more striking: escalators crisscrossing like runways, beauty counters glowing like curated treasure, and designer boutiques revealing themselves from every angle. chanel's signage sits confidently on one level, fendi steps in nearby, and loewe sparkles below. fortnum & mason cookie tins shimmer like pantry jewels, and holts has personal stylists and a concierge on hand, ready to guide you toward the exact cashmere sweater you didn't know you needed. overall, it's a beautifully curated space, wine tastings, canapés, kbeauty discoveries, hand massages, fragrance samples, and a visual feast of luxury design. a place where indulging feels natural, never excessive, and where good taste fits right in.

DO NOT GET YOUR EARS PIERCED HERE…read more I got my second hole pierced here and they got infected and are uneven. The store and corporate was not helpful at all

As the mother of two daughters, I've spent a gazillion hours (and probably a gazillion bucks, too)…read morein Claire's over the years, when we lived in the Seattle area, years ago. My kids got their ears pierced there (a few times each!), TOO many tchotchkes and accessories to count, and I've shopped there after every big holiday as their sales were always pretty darn amazing. The merchandise has consistently been trendy, reasonably priced, and the selection, humongous. I've not been in a Claire's store for years, as my kids are grown now, and I've not been in a Canadian Claire's store ever - until yesterday, that is! I was invited to a New Years eve party with a disco theme. I thought I'd get some inexpensive disco accessories at Claire, as I've passed this Granville St. Claire's so many times, and from outside, it looks exactly like the Claire's stores in the States. I definitely did NOT want to spend a lot of money on items that I'd undoubtedly only wear once, for a few hours, max. Walking in the store, wow, it was such a throwback to my kids' young years, with all the girlie items, of every sort, every trendy theme: earrings, bracelets and necklaces, every type of hair tie/bow/headband/scrunchie, belts and bags, VERY cheap makeup (I'd not recommend the makeup here, IMO), smaller gift items (journals, pens, stuffed animals, etc.), and seasonal/holiday items (Christmas fuzzy socks, smaller stocking stuffer stuff, etc.). They still have all the old promos, too (buy 3, get three free). Even the layout of the store was the same as it was a few decades ago in the States, with the ear piercing station at the front of the store, and the centrally located check-out/cashier counter smack dab in the middle. I immediately asked the girl who was working for any disco stuff, and she brought me a pair of disco ball earrings right away. (It was the last pair here and I probably would never have found it. I was so glad she knew about it and brought it to me right away). I was really surprised at the price, though. Used to be, the stuff at Claire's was really inexpensive. These earrings cost over $12. In fact, I was surprised by the prices of everything here. They are significantly higher than what they used to be. I know it's been years, but even counting for inflation, wow, prices are high for such mass-produced, lower-end items. I saw some blingy, crystal-encrusted elaborate layered necklaces, and a bling-y mesh top and a metal-mesh thin scarf, all of which would be PERFECT for a disco bash - but they cost between $25-$65! Yes, $65! For a very low-end (but blingy) mesh top. Like, what? Prices at Claire's was never this high, not even close. I did find a few things on sale that worked for me: glittery body stickers, some funky disco gloves, and a glittery thin headband, all half off (on sale from $3-$6. Not bad. They always did have decent sales). On the way out of the store, I noticed they had jars of jewelry cleaner (I had been looking for some a few months earlier. I never thought of checking out Claire's for this type of product!). Nice. Ideally I'd rate this store 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up as the girl who helped me was super nice and knew about the merchandise well (bringing me the disco earrings right away), and the store was clean and well laid-out.

I own 3 in total. Unfortunately I noticed that my fave Matt and Natt bag is cracking neat the handle. I went into the store to discuss it with the Manager because when I purchased it in the summer she said it was a 1 year warranty on all their products. However the reality is that when I asked the Manager began back pedalling. The process of return is that they (in her words) " call the company and "see" what they say"! Then they take your product and send it back meanwhile your out of luck until they resolve the issue Of a defective product. The current Manager of fine finds does not seem confident in the information she gave me, however she was fine taking my money when I purchased it for $200.00, that's right they are not cheap, and so it was an added bonus to discover that they stand behind their products and offer an warranty. I've dropped hundreds dollars into this store and this to me is unacceptable. It's a headache when a consumer is given misinformation. When I presented her with facts she challenged me and basically said I was wrong. Even after I showed her the bag. She still annoyed me by basically saying that Matt and Natt bags are indestructible. They are not leather so they do get wear and tear. I had another one years ago and it also cracked near the handle. A previous sales person from the store told me that the Company makes their products in China now.
