I saw that Leistenschneider had a good price (749eur) on the Canon 100mm f.2.8 L lens that I was looking to buy. It wasn't surely the best price out there, but pretty close. I sent this store an email telling me that I'm coming to town and that I'd like to reserve this lens. I didn't receive a reply so I thought that I'll go and visit the store since it was pretty close to my hotel. When I got there and showed them my email, they said that "they lose a lot of emails", but said that they would honor the 749eur deal if there would be stock available. They found one normal price 100mm L and a special price 100mm L, so I was in luck... or so I thought. When we went to cash register, the guy asks me if I would like an UV filter for the lens. A classic upsell technique I thought, but decided to go for that. Now the price was 784eur, not the best, but hey, at least I'd be getting an UV filter too. After I said yes to this the guy says. "Aaaah sorry, the price for the lens is 829eur, so the total would be close to 860eur! I said that this isn't ok and then the guy says that he'd give me the UV filter for free, but even then the price would have been 80eur more than advertised. With these prices the lens would have ended up costing pretty much the MSRP, so I decided to walk away. This is pretty terrible service if you ask me. If the store says that they would honor the sales price, found a special price item in stock, and then tries to milk the customer 80eur extra is pretty terrible. If you are in Berlin and need photography supplies or are looking to buy new equipment, I would recommend you to go to Calumet photography near the central railway station (Hauptbahnhof). There the service is better, they speak way better English and stick with the prices advertised.
