After many years of good service from Dr. Kirk, my experience this year has been HORRIBLE! I…read moretrusted Dr. Kirk when he said that the blurry vision in my left eye was from Dry Eye and I should use over-the-counter drops. I also had symptoms of glaucoma for which he prescribed other drops and some pillls. Many months later, the blurriness was getting worse and worse, and he just said to increase the drops. I have finally gotten a second opinion and a thorough diagnostic procedure. It seems I have severe glaucoma and a block in the retinal vein. I have almost no vision in my left eye now, and the loss may be permanent! I waited way too long to find another ophthalmologist - because I trusted Dr. Kirk. Don't make the same mistake!! Show less

A lot of people go to Dr. Uyemura for eye lens removal and implant surgery, aka cataract surgery…read more The surgery is very expensive, costing thousands on top of what Medicare pays, and that matters, since most people who need that surgery are of an age that is advanced enough for them to be on Medicare. My advice to people who are offered that surgery by Dr. Uyemura and are told how much better their vision will be is, 'Don't get your hopes up.' I was so excited because of all their talk about how I'd be able to see great at a distance without glasses after surgery, and would only need glasses for reading. That wasn't my experience at all! After all that expense, and almost two months of barely being able to see at all while 'healing', my vision seems worse instead of better. Nothing is clear, anywhere. Driving is more difficult than ever. I have double vision when reading, and there's a 'fuzzy' looking something in my view all the time. Dr. Uyemura practically argued with me when I tried to describe what was going on with my vision, and he literally got snotty with me about it- like he didn't want to hear about any problems. I finally gave up. I feel like my eyes are ruined now, and my life has been tremendously affected- in a terribly negative way by a doctor and a procedure that I'd been lead to believe was going to make my vision- and my life, much better! It's been a heartbreaking experience, and the sense we got from Dr. Uyemera was that he really could not care any less. This experience has been one of the biggest disappointments of my life.

I posted this review on Google, and sharing here as well. Great doctors, horrible management. I'd…read moreleave zero stars if that was possible. In summary, the practice is BADLY managed. It has excellent docs IF and WHEN you can get an appointment to see one. The existing docs are tied up in more financially lucrative surgeries rather than maintaining a balance between surgery and eye exams for patients, despite having four locations in northern Colorado. I read the reviews and the management responds to bad reviews by leaving a note and asking reviewers to call the main phone number, which I am guessing is pretty useless but makes them look responsive to negative reviews. My family of five has been patients of this practice for over 20 years. However, the ability to schedule actual eye appointments in the past two years has gone down to almost zero. I had been seeing Dr. Mayer after my cataract surgery in 2021 and 2022, but last year, I experienced the beginnings of a macular hole in my right eye and could not get an appointment with him within six months. I was referred to a retinal specialist, Dr. Korotkin, who said my macular issue wasn't severe enough (October 2024) and dismissed me when I said I needed a new eyeglass prescription because "he didn't do that", like it was beneath him to spend another minute or two addressing or even empathizing with my concerns. I wasn't able to get an eye appointment with Dr. Mayer until March 2025 (they tried to put me off until May), and he immediately noticed that I actually had a severe macular hole. I then scheduled a visit with Dr. Gange (never going back to Korotkin), who I was able to see within a week, and had eye surgery within a week. Dr. Mayer suggested that I schedule an eye exam with whomever was available, so as I still needed a new pair of eyeglasses, I scheduled an eye exam with Dr. Poznic for August. I got a voicemail on Tuesday June 10th that he was not available that day but there were plenty of appointments the following week. I called later in the afternoon and the earliest I could get in would be October. So despite having 23 doctors on staff, there is not a single doctor who could give an eye exam at any of the four locations before October. I tried to leave voicemail for the person who canceled my appointment, but her voicemail said it might take five days for her to return my call, and directed me to NOT call back and leave multiple voicemails. It's unconscionable to cancel existing appointments and not immediately reschedule, then follow up with the patients who lost their spots. They should be prioritized on a waitlist, but none was available. In short, I have a follow-up for my macular hole repair in July but I will not be returning to the practice for any other services.

There are much better options who do not try to cycle through as many patients as possible to generate revenue. After more than 25 years as a loyal patient, I never imagined I would be leaving this practice, but…read morethe decline in customer service has been impossible to ignore. The front desk consistently sounds irritated when patients call, as if answering questions or helping people is an inconvenience. Every interaction has left me feeling like I'm bothering them rather than being a valued patient. The most frustrating part was spending nearly $900 on contact lenses and eyeglasses with an incorrect prescription. Instead of standing behind their work and correcting the issue, I was told I would need to pay for another exam to have the prescription reevaluated. Charging a patient additional fees to address a prescription that wasn't working is unacceptable. Everyone makes mistakes, including doctors. What separates a great practice from a poor one is how those mistakes are handled. Rather than taking ownership and working toward a reasonable solution, I felt dismissed and treated like another billable appointment. It's especially disappointing because I had trusted this office with my eye care for over two decades. The previous level of care and customer service is gone. The new doctors and staff seem far less invested in their patients' experience, and that has cost them a loyal customer. Losing a patient of 25 years over a preventable issue says a lot. I will be taking my eye care elsewhere and cannot recommend this practice based on my experience.
