With newspapers to read, toys for kids and a coat stand for the patrons coats. We had a meatball tapas which was good and also had a roasted beetroot and feta salad, also good. The client is school kids, n mums with babies, teenagers and older families, pensioners and couples, and it works as we had tapas and wine, teenagers were eating a full English breakfast, school kids with hot chocolate n cakes after school, tired mums with babies n toddlers. A basket of herbed bread and whipped butter were brought out to the table while we waited for meals to arrive. I started my meal with a tomato and red pepper gazpacho appetizer that was cool and refreshing with bits of artichoke and grilled cucumber within. Two of us also split orders of fresh steamed veggies and a plate of thin-cut chips. For a main, I chose the prawns. They were served with grilled veggies and mashed potatoes which made for an artful plate. The prawns were cooked just right and all of the flavors mentioned above mixed well in the dish. A lovely tart dessert capped off the meal just right and created a perfect ending to our night.

But that's where the similarity ends compared to most UK pub 'n grubs. I found the atmosphere very relaxed and casual yet kind of chic without being snooty. The bartender and servers were all very polite and welcoming. The food was fantastic; I had the falafel burger (delicious) and lamb skewer tapas (even more delicious). Total with two glasses of wine was less than £20. Will definitely dine there again and probably have the 3 tapas special (£9.95 if I remember correctly).

It's a snug environment with an upstairs if you want to escape the babies, with a good menu at good prices. Downstairs they have baby changing facilities and a toilet, and a handful of sofas. The coffee is good, the food is excellent (breakfast and beyond) and the staff are little rays of sunshine. The seating is indoors, outdoors, and the restrooms are clean. They have an incredible beer selection, but for me, this place is all about the cocktails - and boy do they do good cocktails! Amoeba is small. It is set over 3 levels; ground level with a few tables, the bar is upstairs and then downstairs you'll find a few more tables and nice terrace area. The decor is dark red and it's nice and dimly lit. They have a large blackboard on the wall with a list of all of their beers and an amazing selection of spirits behind the bar. I've felt instantly comfortable and every time Ive been to Amoeba. It always has a great atmosphere and it isn't what you'd expect from a cocktail bar in Clifton. It's nowhere near as pretentious or uninviting as Hausbar up the road. There's no door knocking here! They had a decent DJ (although he was sat down, ha) and the staff were great. I said I wanted a gin based cocktail with some kind of berry influence - I got exactly that! I've no idea what it was called, but it was GOOD! This is one of the best bars in Bristol, in my eyes!
