Great if you manage to find your way in. Parking lot needs paving. We were there for a lacrosse game.

It can be crowded but the lines typically go fast and it allows you some time to digest. There's a dog show that happens two times during the day, cooking demonstrations and vendors tents as well. It's a bonus that All the proceeds go to cancer research. I recommend going earlier than later as some vendors run out of food. Overall, one of the best foodie events there is. I definitely recommend.

Really a food festival/cooking competition. At Fortress Obetz, mainly in the shade under the bleachers, there were dozens of contestants from regional restaurants, food shops, and private teams. Tickets include free samples, so we wandered and tasted. Mainly BBQ-leaning items, but also tacos, bagels and lox, and more. The worst thing I had all morning was still pretty darn good, and some were stellar. You can vote for your favorite. The competitors were friendly and informative, proud to share and talk about their entries. Baby K wasn't much into it, she's not a carnivore, but she had some pita and a snowcone, and a cookie. There were vendors with baked goods, lemonade, grilling supplies, etc. Free bottles of water, nicely chilled on a hot day. A beer garden. Go early; it got busy quick, and there was just a conga line going from table to table for tastings. Parking at the stadium is easy. There was music throughout the day, cooking demos, and a dog skill show.

And a year later, the festival promoters got the great idea to fence in the festival and charge a general admission fee. A one day ticket for just one person? $60. You read that right, $60. Now I'm not into fashion but as far as the music goes, it's an open air festival. Many people realized that you could just walk up to the fence and listen to the music...for free. Hundreds and hundreds of people did do just that. BTW Ludacris's "Number One Spot" sounded just fine through that chain link fence... The promoters also came up with the great idea of selling one day VIP Tickets for $110 per person. Now according to their website, purchasing a VIP ticket got you these additional benefits over general admission: "preferred viewing areas, preferred restrooms and priority entry at the gate". Well, I never once saw anything resembling a line to get into the festival so in reality that extra $50 bought you the privilege of stepping right up to the head of the porta potty line any time you liked. Now doesn't that make your tushie feel special? On a positive note, I give a thumbs up to the promoters for trying to get some better entertainment this year and for including more local food trucks instead of relying on the carnival food fare like they did before. 2 Stars this year.

And I knew eventually I would come to Scioto Downs at some point. I always wanted to come here, ever since we drove past it in its original guise when I was a kid on the way to family get-togethers. I wasn't into horse racing or anything, but the idea sounded interesting, and later in life, I knew people that came down here, and one who was a jockey. But I just never made it down. And then when it became a casino, there really wasn't a draw there for me. It's pretty big, but not huge as far as casinos go. The hotel and the restaurants are on the northern end. The inside is a pretty standard casino, with flashing lights, and noise, although it's really not as noisy and jingly as some of them are. Pretty decent music playing most of the time, interrupted every once in a while by someone saying "I want money!" Or maybe "I won money!" But on the whole a pleasant enough atmosphere without being the sort of casino carnival you often see. Well, there's plenty of that still. But not overwhelmingly so. There are what they call open air terraces, covered outdoor areas with chairs and tables and sometimes slot machines. The one at least has a bar out there too. So, you can pull the handle outside in nice weather, or on a gray 20 degree day. There are free drink stations in one or two places inside, which you might want to keep in mind before you go eat. Food ranges from basic to brewpub to somewhat upscale Italian. Staff were friendly. You can spend a lot of money here if you want to. Or you can just come eat like I did. Not far out of town, plenty of parking. Apparently, they still have racing out back, although I didn't see it, and that's probably only on weekends in good weather. But they do have screens inside showing other horse races, and other sports. And it looks like betting facilities for those things. I don't know, I'll keep an eye on their schedule, maybe they have musical acts or something to come see.

The casino area seems dated and smelly. Separate area for smokers…read more The redeeming quality is the outdoor racing area.

Our photographer had a 10am reservation and we were there about 10min early. Building was locked and staff couldn't get in with their key fobs. They had to call and "wake up" the owner to come unlock the building. We weren't given good communication or how long the wait would be. Waiting with a baby on the side of High Street was less than ideal with her getting fussy being strapped in a stroller. Owner shows up almost 30 minutes later, doesn't even acknowledge us as she walks by and opens the door for the staff. Once inside one staff member realizes that we were the 10am reservation (not sure why that took so long? the building appears to be an old abandoned warehouse otherwise...). He apologizes for his unprofessionalism up to this point shows us around and promises our photographer a discount on a future booking for the inconvenience. Seemed the least they could do especially because a 20 min delay completely messed up our session as we had a staggered 20 min arrival of different family members to participate in pictures with our baby. HOWEVER, upon leaving photographer tells us staff member texted her during our shoot to say owner will actually not be offering any discounts now or in the future and he apologized for the miscommunication.... so I had considered coming back but DEFINITELY NOT for us or the photographer.
