I was going to give this place 3 stars, but as I wrote the review I realized they didn't really…read moreearn them all. The ambiance is fun. But, it's overpriced. And, the food wasn't impressive. I got some chips and they had no salt on the. Trying to track down some sauce took longer than it should have. The game selection is good, but then maybe 1/4 of them were out of order. The cocktails we got looked really fancy, but then didn't have a lot of taste to them other than the alcohol. When waiting in line for drinks, someone obviously cut in front of me to order shots and the bartender just let him and served him first. This is a big pet-peeve of mine. It's not hard to serve people in the turn in which they are lined up. And, if people are cutting and being childish, you don't have to serve them out of turn. Also, one of their staff really talked down to me when I asked where the bathroom was, and he wouldn't tell me where it was until I brought my glass back into the bar area. Apparently, glass isn't allowed out in the game area, but then maybe they should use disposable or non-breakable cups. I just think that, as a woman, it's a safety issue not to want to leave your drink somewhere unattended, or even with people you might know. You don't know who you can trust, or who you can't, and the policy here doesn't really allow for you to responsibly keep an eye on your drink and enjoy what they have to offer at the same time. I think I'll pass on going back to this place.

It's true, you CAN play video games and be social at the same time!…read more 1989 is a recent addition to king street. We ducked in around lunch time for a much needed feed, after being lured in by the flashing CRT displays of Point Blank and Ninja Turtles. Our brunch arrived super fast, along with awesome coffee and a thick shake. Our burgers came with fries which were amazing. You know those kind of fries that are crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside? Yeah - those. My burger was great. Juicy chicken, bacon that was cooked right (not burnt and tough like leather), the Avo as fresh and zesty. What more do ya want? Oh, video games. Right. There's a number of classic arcade cabinets, along with consoles and VHS tapes. Most of the machines take a gold coin to get going, so be sure to bring coins. Will be back for more!

The original owners are either gone or have put there focus into the night-light bar trade. The service is still friendly, but the food is nowhere as good. The menu choices have shrunk, but the prices have ballooned. If I am driving an hour to pay eighteen bucks for a cheese burger, I want it be very good. Of course the other big attraction of 1989 is the awesome arcade video games. Now that it is 2018 I dont carry cash and so I seldom have coins. We wanted to play the machines but they obviously don't take Mastercard and the cafe staff didn't have access to any coins either. It was sad when we paid our bill and left as there was only one other customer there at lunchtime on a Saturday. The staff were friendly, my burger was okay but it's not the 1989 Cafe of a couple of years ago.

In fact it was…read moremore like a second-hand book warehouse than a simply bookshop, probably because it happened to be located in an old warehouse. Honestly, you could spend ages digging through here for little gems (though of course a lot of the hard to find books tend to disappear pretty quickly). Oh, and they also have a large selection of DVDs and CDs, so that is also a huge bonus.

Not since the 80's and quite possibly long before that. If you are after anything I mean ANYTHING that has gone out of print, is hard to find, or just so random that you have no idea where to start looking for it, head straight to Gould's. Do not pass go. Granted, you will have no idea where to start looking for it once you're inside either but I can guarantee you it's there... somewhere... Here you will find the best collection of Australian political and history books on the planet, as well as old vinyls, a priceless magazine collection, and videos. Yes, videos! I struggled not to put "old" in front of each of those items. Gould's bookstore is old, yes, and extremely beloved.
