History

Established in 1998.

I began my martial arts training in 1998 with Mr. Matt Schaefer at Karate America Neenah. I have spent the past 20 years training in American Freestyle Karate, and the aspects I've always enjoyed are self-defense, fighting, and hitting mitts. In 2011, Mr. Schaefer opened a larger training facility that would allow Karate America to add more programs. As a police officer at the time, he saw a need for Krav Maga in our community. During that year, I was given the opportunity to attend my first Krav Maga instructor training, "Phase A". I instantly realized that Krav Maga focused on all of my favorite aspects of martial arts training. Now, I continue to teach and train in Krav Maga because I believe it offers the best training that anyone can learn to survive real violence.

Meet the Business Owner: Joel E.

Fortitude Krav Maga is owned by Joel and Tamrah Ellenbecker, a husband and wife team that is dedicated to helping their community feel safer and stronger. In 1998, Joel began his training in American Freestyle Karate at Karate America Neenah under the guidance and instruction of Matt Schaefer. After a decade of training and competing in martial arts, he began teaching in 2008. Two years into his teaching experience, Joel was able to make martial arts training and instruction his full time career. His students have ranged greatly in age-- as young as four years old up to 71 years. In 2011, he traveled to Columbia, Maryland and completed his first Krav Maga instructor certification. He fell in love with the practical and effective system that improves and saves lives, he now has over 406 hours of Krav Maga instructor training experience between Maryland and Los Angeles. He is currently one of only twenty-five Second Dan Krav Maga Worldwide Black Belts across the globe.
