Class started precisely on time. Clean restroom, good low-light visibility and very warm, even for a restorative class that wasn't advertised as warm/hot. Also, the instructor had placed a "You matter" card in/on each pair of shoes near the front door. It was a nice touch I hadn't seen before at other studios. The class was very inexpensive at $8 -- but more on that below. The less good: It was quite crowded for a Wednesday night. That can be both a pro and a con, I know... it's good to see a yoga studio fill a class so that you know it can stay in business. Parking seemed to be a bit of a challenge but not impossible -- there is a free public lot just a little way down from the studio. The bad: It was pitched as a restorative class, but it ran 7:00-7:45pm, which meant we got through maybe a total of 4 poses (supported child's pose, a legs up half-inversion, supported pigeon on both sides) before moving into savasana... at the 33-minute mark! I was astonished that we were basically wrapping things up after less than 35 minutes. Now, I knew it was a 45-minute class when I signed up, but my overall opinion now is that you really can't do a restorative class any justice in that amount of time. That said, I can't complain too much because it was only $8. However, I would have gladly paid twice that amount for a restorative class of 60-75 minutes. Lastly, I would recommend that instructors give some indication at the beginning of class that touching may be involved -- and offer some sort of option like "place your hands on your belly" or "flip this physical marker (I've seen this done at more than one studio) before placing hands on students. It wasn't unwelcome in this case and I have no complaint about it, but I know that some students do not wish to be touched and it would just be a good idea to offer people a delicate way to opt out of that. Just a suggestion for improvement.

Empower Yoga is a nice studio. The location is a comfortable size though classes can fill the room…read moremany times. It is as obvious they have a great following and great instructors by the many classes a week, the number do instructors and classes attendance. The room temp. is good as it seem the floor has radiant heat built in. Great decor, wall colors and lighting. Empower yoga has many instructors using the same style. Each one put there own personality into the practice once a yogi learns that instructors style practice goes smoothly. My practice has been bikram style ( @ Yoga Kula Project in Park City UT )poses thus adapting to the steady movement takes mental adjustment. I personally would enjoy having some instructors with very practice style lead a few classes, as I practice 5 to 7 times a week.

I've been going to Empower Yoga for about a year now. We are presently mired in the "it's the new…read moreyear and I'm getting fit and trying new things" part of the calendar, so classes are very crowded. I imagine that will taper off in February. That said, Empower is...pretty good. The instructors are good, the classes are enjoyable, the heat is improving. Probably the biggest complaint is really the physicality of the location. There is no anteroom for changing, waiting, etc. This is a limitation caused by location and there is little to be done about this, but it keeps Empower from earning another star (or two). Pricing cannot be beat!
