I do not always use my plane, but sometimes the travel time savings just makes sense (not particularly the cost though). This past month (April 2024) there was a couple of issues, that I will say I have never experienced before. First, I rent a car for the couple of days I'm there. In the past it's been Enterprise (I think). No issues, reasonable cost. Don't need a fancy car. This last time when I called, I was told they have a new rental agency, with significantly increased cost. Well, it is what it is. I put about 50 or so miles on the car for the weekend. I drove from the airport to my hotel in downtown FW, the next day to and from the Navy base from my downtown hotel, then on Sunday to the Navy base then to the airport. This usually translates to 2-3 gallons of gas. When I went to put gas in it, it took over 5 gallons! Enough for about 150 miles of driving (30mpg car). The gauge looks full but not really. Not really much to get too peeved about. Means somebody else was using the car outside of the rental. When I drop off the car, I always look over the car to confirm no damage, and none, that I was not aware about (had issues with this in the past with other rental companies, so it's a habit). I get a call 3 days later from the company claiming I broke the front windshield! What!!?? Nobody ever checked the car when I returned it to verify it was damage free. This rental agency is off site, and they need to drive these cars for quite a bit on the roads in Fort Worth. They sent me nice pictures later, but the car was in a different location than where I dropped it off. This was essentially a rock chip and crack. When their personnel were moving the car, this is most likely when this occurred. I know it was not when I had the car. But since they have no accountability of the car for some time frames, they blame the customer. These people suck! They need to realize they have holes in their system and have to take some risk. Their rental cost was over $100 more than I paid with Enterprise before. Go rentals is terrible. California company of course! Second, I took me over 30 minutes to pay for gas and hanger fees. There were 2 folks at the desk, obviously one was very new, the one checking me out. The other was far more experienced but was sitting at her computer and would not lift a finger to assist the newer lady assisting me, who was quite confused and bewildered about how the computer process worked. I understand the problems some of these FBO's may have in securing rental car agencies for rental cars for transient use. But they need to be much more careful about who they pick as it reflects greatly on their reputation. There was nobody to check in this car, so the agency has to accept it as is with no accusations. I get the new girl up front, that's part of doing business (not necessarily the other girl not really helping though when the girl helping me was obviously struggling), but the choice of shady companies like Go Rentals, is not very forgiving. Geuss in the future I will choose a different airport in the Fort Worth area, there are a bunch.

I've flown Southwest flights from DAL and never had issues. Nice airport with several good food and shopping options and getting thru security takes 10-20 mins, depending on how busy it is. In this case, it was pretty easy getting off the plane and to my car rental booth. However, it is really annoying to have someone at the Rental Car Information Booth who lets everyone pass her just to find "Go to the Shuttle" signs at the counter. Spend the money on a sign that doesn't roll its eyes. Of course, this was the last airport JFK flew into. In fact, LBJ was sworn in as president while on the tarmac here. For being one of the oldest continually operating airports in the US (founded in 1917 as a WW1 training base), it doesn't look like it. By the way, if you're on a layover, they have a Smithsonian-affiliated museum ($12) that houses over 30 aircraft and extensive space flight exhibits on airport grounds a 5 minute taxi ride away. As for being the site of movies: their modern (for its time) moving sidewalks were used in Logan's Run (1976). Oliver Stone recreated the president's arrival here for JFK (1991), as did the Stephen King based 11.22.63 (2016); Wes Anderson used it for the backdrop of Bottle Rocket (1996), and the airport was a plot point in Michelle Pfeiffer's Love Field (1992).

No, me and the kiddo showed up here this past Saturday for the Denton Air Show. Bi-planes, planes from Vietnam and WWII and really cool stunt planes. Even a helo from Vietnam that had a side machine gun on it which my daughter seemed to relish a bit too much..... she's only four, I'm not worrying yet. It was an overcast day, but it still ended up being pretty humid. Thank god for one dollar refills on lemonade and limeade in a Coca-Cola shaped 32oz cup. Lots of other food to choose from, from the standard corn dogs and twister potato chips to Jamaican food and lots of ices and ice cream. Of course there were those things flying in the sky in formation, but with $5 to play in the bounce houses, my daughter didn't care much about the planes once they were airborne. I on the other-hand enjoyed what I got to see while we were there. Gates opened at 8:30 am, but the show didn't start till 11am. I also didn't realize I needed to bring chairs and/ or a blanket with me. I will remember that for next year. The one good thing about being so early was we got to see all the planes without a huge crowd. There were easily a couple thousand people there, or it seemed that way. Fun event, will do it again.

Addison is one of the busiest private airports in the country, and the 2nd busiest single runway airport in the country (Behind San Diego International) This means that you get to see a wide variety of aircraft taking off and landing all day. From Cessna 172s giving flight lessons, to big Lear Jets and GulfStream IVs whisking executives away. On the weekends you'll even see some warbirds from Jim Cavanaugh's collection taking off. Addison Airport has Cavanaugh's Museum, countless flight schools, and even a company to fly christmas light flights over Dallas and other romantic flights and tours. For those who love planespotting, there are countless spots to post up and watch planes. I won't give away my own personal favorite spot, you need to find your own! But Dooley Ln, where the Control Tower stands has some great views of the airport. And on weekends a lot of plane spotters like to park for amazing views of approaching and departing aircraft in the office park parking lot on Westgrove Rd. at the end of Runway 15 (The north side of the airport) Happy Plane Hunting.
