And boy, were we excited having discovered it. The museum and its property are very nondescript, and that is a shame. It seems to be an underrated museum which should get more exposure and traffic than it apparently does. As their mission states: "To instill understanding and respect for the indigenous cultures of the southwest." And they do it extremely well. Within the unique stone building and confines of the relatively moderate size museum space are an incredible array of objects, relics, Nik-Naks, gifts, paraphernalia, and artifacts to peruse and learn the while away. Kudos to the staff and volunteers that do an excellent job of teaching those who stop in about this incredible culture.

The one exhibit that I really enjoyed was a real uniform and personal effects of one of Teddy Roosevelt's rough riders. The family of the rough rider was gracious enough to loan it to the exhibit. It is a fantastic 2-day festival held annually on the four-acre Sharlott Hall Museum campus. This year it was held on July 14-15. The variety of beautiful items on display and for sale is impressive: jewelry, clothing, wood carvings, ceramics, sculptures in all sorts of mediums, paintings, baskets, blankets... If you love Native American artistry as much as I do, this is definately an event to watch for. A blurb from the museum website for the 2018 festival says: "More than 102 juried American artists, representing 30 tribes and pueblos, will present traditional and contemporary artwork making PIAM one of the Southwest's premier Indian-art markets." This is one of the better shows in Prescott.

What great slice of history, a museum full of spectacular specimens, A town full of mystery, a…read more1900 ft mine shift that you can walk over (it's covered with glass!), a spectacular mansion which serves as the state museum, and beautiful scenery including a view of the San Francisco peaks in Flagstaff and views of the red rocks of Sedona. We happened upon a fabulous history guide upon walking in. A 50+ year native called us to the front porch of the Douglas mansion (which sits upon some of the mine tunnels!) and delighted us with a passionate 30 minute jam packed history. Not sure if this is a daily event, but I know we were extremely lucky to hear this talk. I cannot wait to go back and learn more.

This is a unique find in little Jerome. As a history buff I found this quite fascinating because…read morethey have so many details covered on the town's varied history across a variety of subjects - seedy and not-so-seedy. It's only $2 per person to enter and they take all forms of money. My boyfriend and I saw it all in about 35-40 minutes (including me reading every minute detail and looking at just about every artifact haha). While the focus is on the area mines' histories, one cannot forget about the town history as they are both intertwined. The town flourished when the mines flourished and vice versa. I found it interesting on the bits about the "red light district history" too - a bit of a scandalous past but part of the past. Spend a little time/money here, shop/browse the jewelry for sale up front and you're golden for an hour or so.
