Located between Sedona and Jerome, this unusual museum is well worth a stop. Extremely interesting exhibits and collections, self-paced, inside a converted high school. Shows how copper is used and what can be made with it, and the history of the building and the town. A lot of interesting things we didn't know. Older pictures and placards but they add to the ambiance. Amazingly, you are invited to touch whatever you like which adds to the feeling you are exploring. One of the best local museums we've been to. Parking onsite, takes about 1.5 hours. Wear a coat in winter, very chilly inside. Appropriate for adults or children. Dogs allowed inside on leash. It was a great short experience at the museum. You can easily spend 1-2 hrs looking at all the items made from copper. It is $11 and there is a small parking lot next door. Roman gave us a brief history on Clark. I would definitely return and stay longer. read more

Made an impromptu stop in here while driving through Clarkdale and don't regret it. Super cool to hear and see the whole history of copper as well as the building. Reception was super nice and helpful in giving history on certain things. Would highly recommend coming in and checking it out if you have an hour or so to burn. Do not sleep on this unique museum in this tiny (sleepy? haha) town. We unfortunately did not have a lot of time as we were going to the nearby Verde Canyon train, but the museum steward was nice enough to show us one of the rooms (for free, so nice) and it blew us away to the point we had major FOMO. Their collection of copper is incredible and so beautifully displayed, it will really put you in awe. Trust all these top-rated reviews, this place is worth a stop! read more

A must stop and see kind of museum- this museum gives you the history of Clarkdale founded in 1912. Clarkdale was built by Senator W. A. Clark as a smelting town for Jerome (a mining city, up the mountain) that produced over 100 billion pounds of copper! This museum is new, opening to the public just 10 years ago- its home is the former Clarkdale school. This museum boasts of a stunning, massive and incomparable collection of 6000+ Copper Artifacts of North American and European Emphasis. With the following galleries: Introduction Information Military Art Art and Architecture Kitchen Drinking Distillery and Winery Rooms I found the Military art intriguing with it's many styles of trench art, battle artillery shells turned into pieces of art. I learned about how copper is found in numerous semi-precious stones and these were crushed and used as pigments for dyeing clothing or used in painting. The kitchen gallery simply blew my mind. The antique copper stoves in blue and green had me wishing for one! I learned about foods that have copper content in them, how many different professions and hobbies used copper in their tools- diving, boating, musical instruments and more! Loved this place! What a surprise! $9.75 entry fee for the museum. Very nice inside with super friendly staff. The displays are awesome, you can touch and take all of the pics you want. We learned so much here! I had no idea the WW1 soldiers created trench art and made shell casings into works of art! Amazing collection of them. Beautiful kitchen room filled with every kind of copper pot, mold, vessel you could thing of! Beautiful room. There are more rooms too. Art, metalergy, history, it goes on and On. Worth every copper penny!!!! This is the place to take your out of town guests! Worth the road trip from Phoenix to Clarkdale and a visit to this phenomenon collection of practical copper items. Bring in the old Clarkdale High School building and seeing the old photos of the students and their clothes was really fun! Come back' yesteryear! The museum displays were really well done and the museum was beautiful. I loved that there was a wheelchair we could borrow -as my mom couldn't have gone through the displays without that wheelchair. Thank you so much for suggesting that when you saw her with her cane. We tried to find a bite to eat while in Clarkdale, and sadly the brewery only had "snacks". So we headed back to Cottonwood and had lunch at the Thai Palace and that was the perfect ending for our road trip to see the Arizona Copper Art Museum! We will always renter what a lovely collection of copper art is there. I loved the horse painting, the musical horn, the fancy ovens, the beautiful iron furnishings in the kitchen area, and all the details on the artillery shells. read more

We finally made it to this museum after many visits to Jerome and driving through Clarkdale. We had heard from other tourists that it was a good museum to visit. We really liked how they repurposed the high school and incorporated the school's history with the copper history. The property is beautiful and there is so much to see and learn. We definitely were surprised by a number of items especially how hospitals could have more antimicrobial protection from germs if metallic copper was used on handrails & door knobs. There were so many examples of coppers use in history and current day. Because it is a self guided tour you can take as long or as little time as you like. Don't miss the story in the 1st 'student' of the high school. If you have time in your visit to the area, take in this Museum/Clarkdale & Jerome. read more

I enjoyed visiting the Copper Art Museum. This museum had everything that you can imagine made of copper. I loved that the museum is set up in a beautiful abandoned and later repurposed high school. It looks in mint condition and is exceptionally clean. There is a lot of love pored into this place. They do a great job of combining history and artifacts. The museum is housed in the old Clarkdale High School which originally opened in March 1928. The building served as a high school until 1960. When restored to create the Copper Art Museum, much of the original structure, including the maple flooring, were preserved. Restoration occurred from 2005-2012. The museum is organized into several rooms - one room focused on copper military art; one focused on copper and it's use in cooking; one focused on copper's use in art and architecture and one focused on copper and the wine industry. There were excellent displays on the history of the copper industry and how copper was initially discovered and used by our ancestors. The where also some interesting outdoor displays. A gentleman working in the museum asked us several times if we had any questions and was quite helpful. This is an excellent museum and should won your list while in the area. Allow at least 1 hour to see this museum. read more

Best Clarkdale Attraction! As others have described in great detail, this is a very large museum in a very small town. It's actually 2 stories high and has about 15 different rooms. Allow 1-2 hours to really see all the unique copper items. They span continents, centuries, and the various uses for copper. Don't miss the Statue of Liberty! Never realized how much copper was mind in AZ, not to mention other expensive oars as well. The museum accepts all types of currency, they do not discriminate. My favorite room was full of "trench art," made from WW1 shell casings while the troops were stuck in the trenches. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and eager to share. This place was truly a hidden gem!! And one of my favorite parts about my trip to Sedona! We first visited the little shop between Jerome and Clarkdale where we met Pat, who told us about the Copper Art Museum. We would have never found the copper museum if it hadn't been for that little shop and worlds sweetest shop keeper. If you have time definitely make your way to the shop, which is about a 10 minute drive the museum. About the museum itself, it in the historic Clarkdale High School. The setting and atmosphere couldn't be more perfect for this style of museum. Make sure to speak with Drake, he gave us a tour of the museum and answered so many of our questions. They have historic artifacts from 1500's - present. If you're visiting Sedona I would definitely add this to your list of places YOU MUST SEE! read more

We drove up to Clarkdale to take the Verde Canyon Railraod trip, and I noticed this museum. It is a MUST SEE! We went up on a Monday and there were no tour buses there, so we had the place pretty much to ourselves. The gentleman who took our tickets gave us a fascinating mini-tour and checked in with us periodically to see if we had questions. The museum is housed in an old high school building, and each room has a different set of copper artifacts -- military, religious, kitchen, etc. We spent about 90 minutes there, but to see everything would take as much as three hours, I'd expect. When we take another railroad trip, we'll definitely go again. FABULOUS! read more
