Late summer blooms in the garden
Kris L.

The grounds are beautiful, especially in late summer with nearly everything blooming, an excellent location for photography or painting. I attended a plain air art event so did not visit the museum buildings other than the gift shop, but the gift shop building is wonderfully restored to the period and the staff was so knowledgeable at recommending historical books. I do plan to come back and visit the full museum soon.

The rose garden

The people of Prescott can be super happy that they have such a lovely oasis right in the heart of the city. A gorgeous rose garden, historical exhibits, and a wonderfully relaxing place to chill. But the displays are not as professional as they could be. A few specific comments here: --If a little is good, a lot is not necessarily fabulous. A bunch of the rooms in their education building have displays which fail to educate, since they tried to put an encyclopedia on the wall. This malady is sometimes called "logorrhea." But, in any case, way too many exhibits have rambling stories and there will be few visitors who are willing to spend the time to figure them out. --Writing becomes hard to read, if you run text over pictures. Are you trying to educate the visitor, or not? --Curators: You are not safeguarding the Mona Lisa, nor the Magna Carta. If you put up displays, they should be legible, not in super-dark light for pretentious "conservation" reasons. --Setting the air conditioning at a temperature so low that visitors have to flee in discomfort is not a brilliant idea. Summary: mostly very enjoyable, but the administrators take their role way too seriously and need to put themselves in the shoes of the visitors to understand what is helpful and what is not.

This place is truly a hidden gem! I know it's right there off the main road, a couple blocks down from the main square of DT Prescott. My 7 year old has lately had a growing fascination for old history, I thought it would be fun to visit for him. I only paid $12 for me and he was FREE! There's a parking lot strictly for this place or you can park on the side. We got there right when it opened at 10 AM on a Saturday. This place would definitely be nice to add to your places to visit if you're from out of town as we were only there for 1.45 minutes. My son was so fascinated by it all and I liked how they had volunteers in some of the houses to share the history of the house and location. It was very informative and made the experience that much better. Tons of history to learn about Prescott and old settlers. Go check it out!!!

A really solid museum. For some reason I wasn't expecting much, and I was wrong. A really well put together museum with native artifacts and craft ware, interesting historical dioramas, videos, Prescott history, and of course the knowledgeable docents. I wish I lived closer to attend their events. Highly recommended.

What a nice museum! We learned so much, and it was extremely interactive. We were lucky to go when people were in each building, dressed like the time period and talking and explaining things to each guest. The grounds are gorgeous, so many flowers and plants. I would definitely go again.

Lots to see here and kids are free! Several buildings and houses to look in and learn the history.

My wife loves museums and we seldom miss one. We actually drove to Prescott, AZ specifically to visit the Sharlot Hall Museum. This museum is a gem and really showcases the history of the Arizona territory. There is a main building with some interesting displays regarding the history of the region but the real attractions are the various other buildings on the site. One is the original governor's mansion from the early days of the territory. In addition, one of the one buildings has been converted into a "transportation building" that showcases the evolution of transportation from horse and buggy to old cars and bicycles. There are a number of old buildings on the site and we didn't have time to see all of them but we thoroughly enjoyed seeing the ones we did see. The staff is all very knowledgeable and gave informative talks about the various buildings. As with any museum, there is a gift shop but this one was especially nice. Well worth the admission price.

Wow! Just wow! This museum is just amazing and has so many fun and interesting aspects to explore. The staff was very knowledgeable and really helped you understand what you're looking at. We didn't have a lot of time to slow down and give this museum the attention it deserves, so we'll definitely go again.

This is a great museum. I learned so much! I enjoyed going through the different buildings and seeing how Prescott changed over the years. The volunteers are full of great information.

Plenty to See and Do

I was very impressed with this museum of Arizona history. It included early history exhibits and many buildings of the era beginning 1864 (including a school house, the first governor's mansion, a governor's house, a ranch house, a fort, an exhibit hall, a transportation building with vehicles of the era, a gift store, and more) with helpful, knowledgeable docents in clothing of the era. It was all nicely done!

This museum does a good job documenting the history of Prescott and Yavapai county. I like touring the Governor's mansion and the other home on the property. The displays of other artifacts from the old days were also very interesting.
