Greene Park, it is frustratingly crowded and sometimes just not easy to walk around and navigate. I realize they probably don't have other options, but it nonetheless discourages attendance or makes me rush through to get out of dodge as quickly as possible. The other nuisance I feel like they could have some control over, and that is how short the hours are/how early the market closes. I swing by around 12-1pm and most of the stands are closed or closing up. I lived for years near the two park slope/prospect heights markets and felt like you could still stroll in at 2-3 to a still-thriving scene (and more comfortably stroll!). There are a lot of great vendors and quality produce here for you once you wade through the crowds--lots of fresh fruit and veggies of course, but also cheesemongers, shops selling meat, charcuterie, bread, mushrooms... quite she smorgasbord. it ultimately feels a bit petty and silly to complain at all about having a nice farmers' market nearby.--I am ultimately grateful this spot is within walking distance of my home. But it feels like it could be a much better experience for shoppers--like it's just slapped together without much care for visitors' experience, particularly when compared to other city farmers' markets I have experienced.

The Park Slope CSA is the second CSA I have been a member of in Brooklyn and I love it! It's…read moreconvenient to where I live, which helps, but it's also seems to be the most affordable CSA in the neighborhood (~$23 week for a veggie share). This CSA partners with Windflower Farm. They are a small, organic farm in upstate NY and offer veggie, fruit, flower, and egg shares plus lots of yummy add ons from Lewis Waite Farms. The season runs for 22 weeks, from mid-June to early November. You pick up your share on either Tuesday or Thursday evenings at the Garden of Union in Park Slope, which is right of the R train. If you can't make it one week you can rest easy knowing the extras have been donated to a soup kitchen. I've been a member for four seasons and have loved the wide selection of veggies. There's always a solid selection of greens, amazing tomatoes in the late summer, and delicious sweet corn. Our farmer also sends potted herbs in the beginning of the season, which is awesome! We've had a full share in the past, but find that it is a lot of veggies for two people so are trying a half share this year. We've also had fruit and flower shares which have been great too! But my favorite is the egg share. You just can't beat farm fresh eggs! If you live in Park Slope or nearby neighborhoods, I highly recommend joining the Park Slope CSA!

Plus, I was bored with my current healthy options. Enter Farmer Ted and the Park Slope CSA. I know there are several great CSAs in Brooklyn; I chose Park Slope CSA because of the incredibly convenient pick-up locations right of the R Train on Union Street (by Dinosaur BBQ but don't be tempted), the price (about $23 a week), and the flexibility (you have 3 hours to pick up your order on Tuesday or Thursdays or arrange for a friend/roommate to get it). I couldn't be happier with my decision. Last year I made about 90% of all my meals with food from the CSA and was delighted to fill my bag with varied veggies (broccoli, lettuce, tomatoes, butternut squash, cabbage, carrots...) and a bag of fruit ( apples, peaches, plums). There is a list of the CSA website for you to take a look. Yummmm.... so excited! I'm a bad cook but even I have been able to make new, flavorful, fun dishes with my snazzy produce, and I can't wait to try more. Plus, the CSA has weekly or bi weekly emails that include updates and recipes. Sold.

Their customer service is awful: 1- Local Roots just changed my pickup point 48 hours before. The options they gave me is to go pickup produce far away (and risk infection with COVID at 35 weeks pregnant), or pay them 15$/week for delivery. They changed the terms of my subscription out of the blue. Now my choice is to incur in significant expenses, pause my subscription (at a cost of 5 dollars per week to me due to LR's negligence), or risk my health. They did not offer alternate arrangements, a refund, or even an apology. 2- During Isaiah, Local Roots decided to continue operations as normally despite the fact that the storm was forecast. The driver had an accident on the road in the middle of the storm, and the produce was late. We were informed 45 minutes after deliveries were supposed to start. We waited outside, post-storm, for an hour. The company put its workers and customers at risk. Local Roots offered no compensation, let alone an apology. Stay away from this company, unless you want constant headaches and aggravation due to poor planning and customer service. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau as well as city and state authorities, and encourage all affected customers to do likewise.

My local…read moreRalph's store lowered the price by 50 cents, which is better than nothing, but the salad anount is TINY. It's almost laughable. I would rather they kept the original size and RAISED it by 50 cents. Too bad. And they have the nerve to call it the "new grab and go size." The bigger size was indeed "grab and go" too. And I don't know if the larger size is even a thing anymore. My store no longer carries it. Anyway, I'm done with this product. I hear their company treats employees poorly, according to some reviews online.

In the spring the share is always a little light because not as many crops are in season (usually a lot of greens at first!), but by late summer I can hardly carry everything home. I cook a lot, so my husband and I don't have any problem using our whole share, but the CSA does offer an every-other-week share option as well. Some of my favorite CSA items: Corn (there is so much of it in late summer), tomatoes, eggplants and unusual cooking greens (when in doubt, I just sauté them!). Picking up the share is always fast and easy, and there are two days to choose from (Tuesday and Thursday). The location is only 1/2 block from the Union stop on the R line, so sometimes my husband picks up the share on his way home from work.
