Oh Canada how much I've missed you! After living in the south for the last 10 years my trips to…read moreCanada were infrequent. The Detroit Windsor Tunnel hasn't changed much over the years. Getting to Canada is a short drive under the Detroit River. It's the hard to believe the tunnel has been a daily underwater route since 1930. At its lowest point this 2 lane roadway goes 75 feet (23 m) below the river surface. It was always a treat to take the tunnel as a kid. On this recent trip (7-23-25) I met a few friends for dinner and some gambling after at Caesars Windsor. It's $8.25 USD to cross from Detroit and $7.75 CAD to come back from Canada. Make sure to have your passport or documentation ready as they check everyone at the border and being prepared helps expedite the process. It can get busy during weekends, holidays, and rush hour time but seldom have I ever been held up long at the border.

While things have changed over time like the fees and customs agents, the tunnel has stood the test of time. I remember as a kid thinking it was so cool to see the "welcome to Canada" flag once you got to a certain point. It's about a mile long and only one lane each way. Very rarely have we ever had back up traffic since I literally have crossed this tunnel no less than 100 times. Coming from the Detroit side, the payment to cross is now entirely electronic. no cash! Card only. I think it was $7.50 to get through. Eventually, you stop at the customs agent and they ask you what your doing over in Canada and for how long you'll be there. If they think you have something suspicious or don't like your answer, you get pulled into the customs area and searched. Prepare to be there a very long time! They do have a duty free shop here for alcohol and a few other things as well. I can't remember where to pull off for this side of the tunnel, but it's somewhere if you need to. No bathrooms available!!

Unfortunately, I often end up next to someone with flying elbows and a very different idea of personal space. But guess what? I can deal. It's so cheap (particularly if you plan ahead) that you get at least what ou pay for, if not more. There are far fewer delays on Megabus than on Amtrak, and now they also have the bonus of free wifi. (For awhile a network would show up, but not work, and the drivers had no idea what to do to fix/access it) The drivers are a trip -- I've had some great ones, and some super-sketchy ones. But again, I can't really expect that much more. I usually pick up the bus in Ann Arbor -- and you should note that it can be hard to find multiple seats together after the Detroit stops. However, finding 2 seats together is usually still possible depending upon the day. After too many 4+ hr train delays, I'll take a possible 1-2 hr. Megabus delay any day. And honestly, I've only had a significant delay one time out of dozens. For the relatively quick trip to Chicago -- unless I'm carting furniture in my car or planning on doing some major thrifting along the way, Megabus is usually my best bet!

I've used this company multiple times over the last few years and it has gone smoothly each and…read moreevery time. I used a different company before and I was not pleased, so I am glad to have a "go to" company for car service now. I mainly use them for airport pickups and drop offs. The cars are always clean. The drivers are always professional and early. The best part, however, is the customer service! You get an e-mail with a photo of the driver, a text when the driver is on their way, a text when the driver is at your location, an e-mail when you're in the car and a final e-mail when you get dropped off. 5 star service!!…read more Visiting a new city is always stressful. You have to pick a hotel, find your way to the place, and on top of this you have to do this blindly, not knowing the city. Thanks to the yelpers, I found Motor City Limo and called them 3 months prior to the trip to book the transfer to/ from the airport / hotel. A few days prior to the trip I get a confirmation email, and then on the day of the trip I get an email reminding me of my pick up. The only down part is, if you don't have access to email, you would not get this reminder. As I landed I got an email telling me my driver was on the way and a photo of Anton. Then I got a text message telling me he's at the Coffee Bean with an iPad sign. Total communication .. love it! He was so easy to find, and we had no communication problem. Anton was a great driver and guide. Our SUV was warm and he even gave us bottled water to sip on. Chatty but not overly chatty, and gave us tips on what to do in Detroit. I asked Motor City to allow me to tip the driver with cash, and I gave Anton a very generous tip for a job well done. On the day of our return we had "GG" and she was excellent as well. Bright and early at 7 am on as Sunday, she was chipper and friendly. She grew up in Detroit and told us how things have changed in the new Detroit revival. Just like our arrival, Motor City gave me plenty of confirmations and notifications, so I did not stress if my reservation would be there or not. Thumbs up to Motor City, and to Karen the gal I spoke to on the phone. Emailed me within hours, and they never close. Excellent, and recommend them!
