Large, well maintained park, with plenty of room for a child to run and play. There was no shortage for runners taking in the good weather on my visit and I even recall seeing some young bicycle riders. There was an enclosed playground for the little ones who may get a bit too excited while exploring the swings, slides, see-saws, etc. There was a nice place to by snacks or a quick meal in the park. That kiosk included restrooms and was air conditioned (greatly appreciated on a hot summer day). The only drawback may be the limited parking, though I didn't have trouble finding a space and it is in the middle of the city. read more

Had passed by a few times and finally this weekend was able to spend some time in this park. It was great, we had a nice bottle of wine cheeses and played some music while laid on our banquette. Really enjoyed the experience. The only negative have to say is that I wish they would take better care of some part of it. Some plans look like they are dying and some of the walkways need attention as well. Overall it was very peaceful and relaxing experience! read more

We have a refrigerator magnet of Forsyth Park and its famous fountain, so you just KNOW that I had a good time here. I did, of course, and I agree with most of the other Yelpers on why this historic and so darn cute little green space is worth a stroll. It definitely gets a lot of loving use by the locals, who hang out on its lawns, benches, and trees. And the restored Victorian-era houses that surround the park are indeed quite lovely. Almost makes you forget the slavery and the cotton that made the white folks here so filthy rich (some of them, at any rate). Now, of course, multicultural others who have no ties to the Old South and its Jim Crow, segregationist past whatsoever have moved in and bought up much of this precious real estate, although there is still a lot of old money around (and the United Daughters of the Confederacy division to prove it). But Savannah has always been its own unique place, and by now it has been postmodernized so thoroughly that it's part Southern, part Northern, part Atlantic, and a little bit global, too. It has one of the oldest Sephardic Jewish communities and synagogue in the states, for example. What I would like to point out is something no other Yelper managed to uncover: a memorial statue at the southern end of the park (the side further away from the downtown and river) that is dedicated to U.S. soldiers who helped to conquer and colonize the Philippines from Spain between 1898-1902. This nasty little war is an almost-forgotten part of America's ongoing imperial history. It was the inspiration for Rudyard Kipling's famous "White Man's Burden" poem, which many an undergraduate has been required to read in the years since it was first published in McClure's Magazine in 1899. In the counterinsurgency campaign waged against Filipino nationalists, Sulu island Muslim freedom fighters, and native Tagalog speakers that followed the war with Spain, U.S. forces tortured suspected insurgents with a crude form of interrogation called the "water cure," a painful process that invites comparisons with Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/02/25/080225fa_fact_kramer. U.S. soldiers, along with their local allies, also burned villages, incarcerated thousands, and generally made a mess of things. All this resulted in hundreds of thousands of lost lives due to disease, arbitrary executions, unlawful detainment, and mass starvation. It was NOT a pretty picture, let me tell you! Savannah is one of the very few cities in the U.S. where I have seen such an elaborate statue about this war and colonial period of American history. WWI, WWII, Civil, American Revolution, yes, but the Philippines? This is a MUST-SEE the next time you come to this park. It's not all pretty fountains and innocent fun, my Yelping friends. History happens And not just the kind you would like, or the sanitized, sensationalized version that appears on the History Channel. It's a big park that spans several blocks of the city. They have spacing for running around and sports. The fountain is lovely and a great place to take pictures. I really don't support the statues though, as they were built to honor soldiers who fought to support slavery. The park is surrounded by historic homes and an interesting site to see. read more

This is one of those Savannah Georgia parks they're known for. Lots and lots of pretty trees. The houses that surround the park are just as interesting to walk by. I get the impression that this is a community park more so than a tourist destination. MY guess is due to its size. Lots of kids and moms. Runners, bikers, readers, etc. Seems to also be a popular homeless hangout. IT didn't deter from the park and they weren't bothering anyone. read more

I miss this place! Something about the environment- the happy people walking their even happier dogs, the young couples falling in love on the trail and the restful trees shading those under it from the blazing Savannah sun. I love this park, but I am writing this review as a runner. The sidewalk around the park is VERY uneven. Be careful because you can misstep at about 6 different locations. As a runner, you get a lot of walkers in your way since the sidewalk is pretty narrow. Beware of the bikers also!! read more

Lots to do, I advise putting on bug repellent like "Skin so soft." Once you do that, you can enjoy the many walking paths and also engage in some sort of activity of their huge playing fields, in addition to the tennis and basketball courts. I absolutely love this park! read more

Savannah is a beautiful City, and it is filled with beautiful outdoor parks and squares. Forsyth Park is the crown jewel. It is a large beautifully landscaped park with all kinds of visual stimulus. Statues, fountains and wide walkways all draw your attention. There are large fields at one end, that were being put to good use for sunbathing on our last visit. This park is large- the outer sidewalk is about a mile so is a great place to get some exercise. There are gorgeous oak trees, several quiet paths, benches and of course, the fountain. There is a visitors center, amphitheater, large grassy areas and small playground. The park is surrounded by historic homes and inns. I parked at what I suppose is the beginning of the park. Free Parking might I add. Walked passed Tennis & Basketball courts then big open patches of grass where people were playing soccer or layed out on blankets enjoying the sunshine & peaceful surroundings. There are lots of Dogs here as well as big beautiful weeping trees that provide plenty of shade. A large clean playground for children. Fountains & statues make for great pictures as well! read more

This is a great park. I live right on the corner of it. During the summer they has a festival and fairs almost every weekend. Its really fun. If you go on the weekday after about 6 when most of the tourists are gone, its much nicer. But its a great park full of plenty of room to have a picnic, play ball, let your kids run around. Theres also a great fountain there that you can enjoy and sit around (if there no wedding taking place). Theres also a flower garden you can walk around in, basket ball hoops, tennis nets, and a nice play ground. Its great to live next to. read more

When in Savannah you must travel through the Historic District. We did three types of tours and can highly recommend all three ways. Old Savannah Tours and Carriage Tours of Savannah were EXCELLENT choice for going by the fountain. Old Savannah Tours you can actually get off the ride and go take photos. There was some minimal overlapping information but it allowed our family to quiz each other for fun. On our Old Savannah Tours, we had Irish woman get on the bus and give us history on the Irish people coming to Savannah. Old Savannah Tours, we started off with one guide and we did not like him, but when we hopped off to see the next site, we ended up with new lady that was awesome. During the day, we had 5 guides that brought an interesting flair to the history. Was worth the money and time to see Savannah. You'll be able to stop and linger at any attractions that interest you. Make sure that you get off and go see Forsyth Park. Beautiful trees but most all the most photographed fountain. read more

A pleasant walk in an outdoor arboretum. Plenty of trees to keep you cool in the heat and of course the iconic view of the fountain through the Spanish moss. This is one of the places that was highly recommended to me on my trips to Savannah. It is a beautiful park for picnics or an afternoon stroll. We recently took a trip to Savannah and this was our first stop. I must say that this was a nice introduction to the town. Our hotel room wasn't ready so we drove here and spent a few hours just chilling. The park is very clean and was full of tourists since it was 4th of July weekend! Having our dog with us wasn't a problem either as the park was very dog friendly. The historical touch of the park was nice also. We spent a lot of time simply walking around and looking at the monuments and tribute areas. If you are in Savannah, I'd definitely recommend going to spend some time at Forsyth Park....you won't regret it! read more
