One of the finest meals of my life on a cold winter night. Every Austrian city that relies on…read moretourism has a selection of various restaurants serving the same (nearly identical!) selection of traditional Austrian and Tyrolean favorites. You know the menu before you even see it. Anich is, in my opinion, the very best of them all. Be aware that the food is HEAVY and served in large portions. If you order one of the classic popular meat dishes (roast pork, schnitzel, goulash, etc) you should either be very hungry, prepared to share, or willing to ask for a takeout box. It's a ton of food and it's all stellar. I'm trying and failing to think of something we ordered there that was less than delicious and I can't. The service was not especially fast but I don't mark this kind of restaurant down for that because the meal is supposed to be a slow one. The local wine selection is excellent as is the beer. During a very crowded time you may be asked to share a large table with strangers or so we heard, but in my visits I never saw this happen. It was winter. Summer may be a different story. The building is lovely as are the several dining rooms. If you're looking for a light meal go elsewhere. If you want to be stuffed with dumplings, meat, gravy, and all that great stuff don't go elsewhere.

He argued with me when I said that the "roast beef" on the menu was just a hard steak and I wanted a soft roast beef as it was mentioned on the menu. So when I said that he went off on me saying that "yes, it is a steak indeed but locally it is called a roast beef." My point is that the waiter should have explained that the "roast beef" on the menu is just a steak and not a roast beef when I was ordering. Instead I got yelled at... The whole fried fish was alright. The duck was also alright. Their beef broth soup with dumplings was amazing, the cheese dumplings are not cheese dumplings but meatballs with some cheese inside. I wasn't told it as well but I was pleasantly surprised. Their flat cheese pancakes were delicious too. We spent over 200 Euros for four people. I cannot say we enjoyed the experience... I do not recommend this place.

While they're known for serving game they hunt themselves, I went for a classic schnitzel and we also tried the Zwiebel steak with Käse-Spätzle. Everything was flavorful and comforting. The service was warm, friendly, and incredibly accommodating, even without a reservation. The whole place gives cozy, traditional Bavarian vibes and serves the kind of hearty, satisfying dishes that hit perfectly after a long day. Wow! So fun & delish!…read more VERY busy - be sure to try and secure a reservation. We had the Crispy Pork Knuckle and the 3 pc. Wildschütz-Deer-Sausage from the Grill. She had introduced all of us by what language we spoke which was a mix of German and English..it was great exchanging travel stories. I had the pork schnitzel with dark beer sauce. Usually the best thing about schnitzels is the crispy coating (otherwise, it's just a boneless pork chop). However, the dark beer sauce, which was like a gravy, smothered the crispy coating, making it soggy (1 star off). My husband got the boiled steak with horseradish sauce and salad. The horseradish sauce was delicious, but the boiled steak was exactly that, boiled...without any flavor on its own (1 star off). Overall, we had a decent meal, but the food felt like slightly elevated cafeteria food rather than that of an established restaurant. I left still feeling the same about Bavarian food unfortunately.
