The internet arm of this company, Shop4Sport, took my money off me a month ago and have still not sent me the goods. The customer service I have received from them has been abysmal! The worst internet shopping experience ever! read more

I like going to this place for my sportswear because it is a lot cheaper than other sports stores like JD or JJB. They have major sports brands here like Adidas, Nike and Reebok so you know you are getting good quality stuff. This shop has been running for over 36 years so you know it is a good place. The staff are excellent here and will help you in whatever you are looking for. In particular running shoes to suit your shape etc. Take a look at their website for more information and to order goods too.

I expected to see perhaps a small selection of various sporting goods and equipment as well as maybe a few pieces of sporting apparel. However, when I entered I discovered that Romida only sells equipment and apparel related to cricket, much to my surprise. Apparently Romida is renowned for its selection of cricket gear in the sporting world, so I guess that shows just how much I know or care about cricket (always found it a bit boring, to be honest). Whilst I didn't find the equipment and products they sold particularly useful personally, I was impressed with the very extensive selection of gear available, which makes Romida a good place for any avid cricket players to visit if they need any equipment at a reasonable price. For those of you that don't fancy venturing out to the shop itself, there is also a very useful and easy to use website from which you can order all your gear too.

The service I must say really is second to none. Online orders are processed as quicker than any other online store I've ever visited. If you do venture into the store the consistency in great customer service is like a breath of fresh air. If only all retailers treated their customers like Romida do, oh what a great world that would be. Clearly the service comes from the passion of the owners which seeps through to all members of staff. They genuinely all love cricket and it shows, as they are able to offer you great advice. If you are a cricket lover or player, Romida is the only place for you!!!!!
I recently decided to buy some proper running trainers and visited Alpha Sports for the first time…read more They are a small independents sports shop that sell a range of items such as trainers, swimming costumes, rugby equipment and much more. I am not an athlete or fitness guru, however the customer service was friendly and professional. The staff at Alpha Sports are very knowledgeable about biomechanics which I learnt was important when purchasing running trainers. I got to stand on a special heat sensitive board which helped select the correct type of trainers for my needs by considering my posture and how the weight was distributed by my feet. I then got to try on differing makes until I found the right pair for me. Alpha Sports also offer gait analysis for more serious runners. I would definitely recommend Alpha Sports if you want to find a pair of trainers that are tailored to your needs. The staff have a lot of knowledge and are happy to answer your questions plus give you the time you need to find your best pair of trainers so you don't feel rushed.

I also remember that they were willing to advise me in terms of exactly what I was looking for and how much I was willing to pay, and I clearly remember that they knocked 10% off the total price because I told them which team I played for. So I went back in last week, and gladly, nothing seems to have changed. I'll remember this place if I ever take up cricket again.

If the answer to all of the above questions is yes, then you really are going to like Dainese a lot. Dainese sell jackets and trousers that are leather but are all modern and actually quite good looking at the same time. There is some serious biking gear in here and plenty of staff to help you with any questions you might have. They also stock a range of baffling (to me at least) protective devices for your back, knees and things like that. They're meant to stop you getting too hurt when you fly off your bike going at a ridiculous speed around a corner in the Lake District.

So, I used to ask all the time if any of my friends want a new helmet, or a new little thing for their bikes. Actually, because I was going in here so many times, at some point the owner came to me and asked me few questions. That was the point when I've asked if they need extra staff. Well, in exchange he said that I need to know quite a lot about bikes, stuff, and I left him quite surprised. Anyway, it didn't happen in the end. I got a different job meanwhile. But still, for the sake of it, sometimes I still go in there, happy like a little bunny. One day, I'm going to buy lots and lots of stuff from that shop. It's to dear to me, and too cool to be ignored.

For many years, as a kid, I was taken by my Granddad to the now defunct Harry Parkes shop in central Brum. Harry played for Aston Villa in the 1940s and 50s, and my old Granddad was a fan, so that's where we went for my boots. Similarly, in the 1980s, George Graham had a sports shop in Cockfosters, North London. By the time I went there to attend University in the early 1990s, Graham was managing Arsenal but the shop remained. I'm not sure if Maurice ever played professional sport, but given that this is a very old school sports shop reminiscent of times gone by, I rather hope that he did. See, this isn't your stack-em-high-sell-em-cheap sports emporium typified by JJB and the like, this is a small shop that carries only one or two of each item, yet still manages to cater for pretty much any sport you can mention. We've bought swimming stuff for our sun, tennis balls, and, most recently, a gum shield for my wife, who has recently taken up the terrifying sport of Roller Derby. On each occasion we've been in the staff have been friendly and helpful and, should you not find what you're looking for, are happy to order it in.
