First bite has you quickly understanding their 5star rating and wishing you'd have ordered more, but these empanadas are large and two a piece seemed to be the right amount for everyone. So far I've visited 9 Mexican panderias in the Plano & Garland area and Azteca is by far the best I've been to. On our first trip, we only purchased two pumpkin empanadas and two pineapple and OMG! As soon as I bit into the pumpkin empanada, the first thing I noticed was how soft the bread was! Then the filling - lots of filling and flavorful! Delicious! After hitting 3 other bakeries that day, we went back to Azteca and this time we loaded up. Oh, and did I mention we only paid .75 cents apiece? Very reasonably priced compared to other places that charge twice as much and have a lower quality product. If you're looking for reasonably priced, fresh, quality Mexican bread, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND coming here. I can only speak for the empanadas but if the rest of their bakery items are on par, you won't be disappointed! Not sure what they were trying to pass off as scallops, but drenching them in sauce doesn't hide the fact that they aren't scallops. They were almost raw when they came out - so inedible. The girl took them back to get a new plate but really all they did was use the same ones because they still had my bite missing. They put them back on the grill, which made them curl up on the edges and got chewy beyond belief. I guess they just put extra sauce to cover up all this mess that isn't scallops. He got the tuna tostadita- the tuna was good, but cut in cubes. Which was a little strange. Too much sauce, which is a huge problem for them. He also got the shrimp quesitaco - which was drowning in sauce. And also not good. For a place that sells mostly shrimp, you'd expect the shrimp to be a star. It's not. The scallops were almost $40 and that was wasted money. All in all, LUNCH was over $110 and we left still hungry because so much was inedible. Skip this place. The only possible highlight was the salsa....and I can find good salsa at plenty other places that aren't going to sell me fake scallops.
